Lots of employers with jobs for our students. please help us to promote
Our online jobs database has fantastic opportunities and employers, including local employers, are keen to attract applications from Sussex. But we need your help in encouraging more students to use it. A recent opportunity for a Graduate Management Trainee at International Logistics Group in Burgess Hill was online but not attracting applications. Thanks to the support of our academic colleagues in BMEc we were able to get the message out to students and one of our graduates is now settling into his new role I only got to know of the vacancy through the email I received a few months back. Needless to say I did get the job and it more fulfilling than I expected. Help us to make sure our students dont miss out: www.sussex.ac.uk/careers/jobs/search
Employer engagement
Find out more about our work with employers and how we can support you
The Careers and Employability Centre takes the lead role on liaising with employers for the development of the employability of our students. Over the last academic year we have continued to reach out to a large number of organisations based both locally and elsewhere in the UK and overseas. We thought it would be useful for you to know what weve been up to and invite you to work with us to broaden our relationships even further. On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor we hosted a number of senior level executives on campus. We also held a number of employer briefing sessions on and off campus. We really valued academic colleagues coming along to these events and meeting employers. after the Christmas closure on January 4, Organisations weve engaged with have included Virgin Holidays, Elekta and Hastings Direct and weve already seen employment opportunities come through as a result.
Events on campus
Last year, 9408 students attended the 347 events we organised on campus, this year, we're hoping to attract more! Each term we run a packed events programme, including regular skills workshops, for example: CVs for Parttime Work, Job Search for Finalists, and Career Exploration. We also welcome many employers to campus, for recruitment presentation , drop ins or to deliver skills workshops. This terms employers include the Civil Service, The Bank of England, Teach First, the NHS and JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme).
Events normally take place in our Seminar Rooms in the Library and drop ins in the Library Cafe, although we sometimes send employers out to academic departments if they want to target specific students! Generally all years and disciplines are invited to attend these events, all we ask is that students sign up first. Full details of all our events and sign up at: www.sussex.ac.uk/careers/events
