CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
Petrol has become an indispensable part of our day-to-day life, and we cant imagine our life without it. But the petrol prices are sky rocketing, and it is eventually going to affect each and everything that we use in our day to day life. Poor people are already working hard to earn square meal a day and this hike is definitely going to paralyze these already-burdened people. Within three years petrol price has increased 10 times and is still increasing. It is nothing but adding fuel to the fire. Petrol hike directly or indirectly affects all the major sectors like transportation, textiles, auto, FMCG etc, for manufacturing & transportation. This affects the prices of daily essential commodities which are transported on a daily basis. Banking sector is also expected to suffer due to high inflation level. Increase in fuel price will also increase in food price. This will have a more severe impact on poor people because poor households spend more than half of their income on food and only a tenth on fuel. It is a chain reaction once started will affect all. Increase in petrol price will increase the transportation cost, increase in transportation cost will increase in price of goods, and this increase in price of goods would gradually force the people to loosen their pockets even more, and so on like this, the chain will further propagate. These ups and downs push more people into poverty and leading to a more pathetic situation of those already poor. This has obviously sent shock waves to the common man who is trying hard to make both ends meet. Price hike affects only the low wages or fixed salaried middle class families as compared to higher wages salaried class. The existing middle class is squeezed and many of those striving to attain the middle-class standard find it persistently out of remit will bring no negative impact on government employees as their DAs will be increase accordingly. Rich and corrupted people are least bothered of it. Business class like auto-

rickshaw drivers shall transfer the burden to common people so they are also safe. Common people if doing business shall also pass the burden to customers and chain reactions. The community that suffers the most is the common people or aam aadmi. So what are we thinking? For the situation to get worse or are we waiting for such a heroic person wholl bring us out of this situation. No, we, the people are the one to do something and control the situation. Stop blaming government and think how to solve it. We Indians import oil from different countries. We dont have enough oil to meet our requirements. So we have to depend on import of oil. If there is increase in international price then we have to bear price hike in India also. Then value of rupee in comparison with dollar is becoming weaker in international market. Increase in number of vehicles also causes hike in petrol prices. So the thing we can do is to reduce oil consumption by using public transport for travelling to routine places like our office, markets etc. Use of high capacity transport system like train, ships instead of trucks and carrier vans. Use of cycles to go to nearby places instead of bikes or cars. Cutting off fuel supply or switching the engine off when traffic is halted for long. Developing alternate sources of energy like solar energy etc. Development of bio-diesel, and government should allocate more funds for developing alternate sources of energy as well as develop high capacity goods and public transport system. At last but not least I want to say petrol is a natural resource and limited in nature. We have to use it judiciously so that our future generations can also use it, and thus lead to sustainable development. As someone has rightly said, Natural resources are not something we inherit from our forefathers but something we borrow from our children

We have collected historical Petrol prices in India since the year 2002. We cover all the metro cities in India and have created a graph for each city - Delhi Petrol price hike chart, Kolkata Petrol price hike chart, Mumbai Petrol price hike chart and Chennai Petrol price hike chart. We hope that the graphs provide an insight on the Petrol price increase.

CHENNAI PETROL PRICE HIKE CHART

KOLKATA PETROL PRICE HIKE CHART

MUMBAI PETROL PRICE HIKE CHART

From the above given charts of petrol price hike in four major metropolitan cities we came to knew about their impact on teenagers in these cities. For further studies a questionnaire was conducted to upgrade the analysis.

SUGGESTIONS Today the world is in the race for taking the oil from the earth. Nowadays, oil level is deciding one of the most powerful factors in deciding the strength of that particular country. All of them want to suck the fuel from the earth without worry about the future's life of our new generation. In my point of view, the people in awareness are the main thing for what today's happening. So each and every man from the earth should know about this basic knowledge about our Geographic Nature. Every one should. 1. Reduce their usage of petrol and diesel vehicle for the short distance. 2. Better to take a walk for this, it also for their health. 3. Try to mingle with our neighbors for traveling, it also give time to share your feelings with them. 4. Don't encourage the children to go with bike for a shop, just tell his/her to go with their friends it will increase their friends circle. 5. Gov. is the more responsibility for make awareness of their peoples by giving Advertisement and announcements through Radios, TVs, Banners and posters. 6. It is responsible for both Gov. And the people to follow, no can blame the opponent. 7. Reduce usage of oil and save money, save earth.

LIMITATIONS It was hard to find the various petrol price hike charts of different metropolitan cities. As the youngsters were not aware of rise in petrol prices it caused hindrance in filling up the questionnaire. It was difficult to prepare the questionnaire because all the questions were based on youngsters.

CONCLUSION Everything that happens is for a reason!! Try to understand the message behind it!! We all know that resources are limited and now we think that its right time to realize that we need an alternative!! An alternative that really reduces the usage of petrol in our daily routine. If not then the common man that is not really common should think of a brilliant idea that can serve humanity. No doubt that our nation has lots of intelligent minds, what people like the engineers and scientists should do is to research for an alternative. Fuel is the one energy used by all, irrespective of their status. But the full brunt will be beard by none other than the teenagers who have to go to colleges or schools or else do there daily routine workings. Indian economy is booming no doubt, but it is not percolating up to the bottom line, that is the poor people. It will take some more decades to reach there. How the teenagers only may suffer due to the rise in petrol prices? All round price rise including all items, petty or big Others will ultimately recover the excess expenses for fuel price rise by taxing their lower levels, for instance the CEO will recover the cost from the company. The company will raise the prices of the products ultimately to be paid by the consumers, most of which will be teenagers A sales man will recover the excess amount TA Bill. Ultimately company pays and again situation as above. Salary earners will get enhanced DA.

Now, the teenagers may not recover from none they are more in number, say, 55 percent of the population. They are the ultimate victim. All this is briefly explained by the following figure.
