name: Andrew Warhola, commonly known as Andy Warhol,


year born: August 6, 1928, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania U.S.
2. studied in: Warhol showed early artistic talent and studied commercial art at
the School of Fine Arts at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh (nowCarnegie
Mellon University). he majored in pictorial design. Upon graduation, Warhol moved to
New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist. He worked as an
illustrator for several magazines including Vogue, Harper´s Bazaar and The New
Yorker and did advertising and window displays for retail stores such as Bonwit Teller
and I. Miller. Prophetically, his first assignment was for Glamour magazine for an
article titled "Success is a Job in New York.
3. lived in: The family lived at 55 Beelen Street and later at 3252 Dawson Street in
the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh
died: February 22, 1987 (aged 58), New York City, U.S.
4.1952: ANDY WARHOL HAS HIS FIRST EXHIBITION IN NEW YORK.
The exhibit was at the Hugo Gallery on Fifty-fifth Street. It was called Fifteen
Drawings Based on the Writings of Truman Capote. Having been attracted by the
jacket photograph of Truman Capote on his book Other Voices, Other Rooms, Andy
tried to contact TRUMAN CAPOTE, sending him various letters and then telephoning
him at his apartment.

Capote's mother, an alcoholic who lived with Truman, was at first friendly
toward Andy though she eventually told him to leave her son alone, calling Warhol a
faggot. Although invited to the opening, Truman Capote did not attend.

Andy Warhol: 15 Weeks of Fame

Organized by the Arkansas Arts Center in collaboration
with The Andy Warhol Museum, one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh

Andy Warhol: 15 Weeks of Fame presents the Pop Art legend at his best! Firmly
established as a major 20th-century artist, international celebrity and cultural icon,
Warhol changed the art world's definition of what art truly is. The exhibition features
Warhol's paintings, drawings, celebrity silkscreen prints, three-dimensional objects,
famous screen tests and his Silver Clouds installation. This show is the first of its kind
in Arkansas. Admission to the exhibition is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for
children/students.

In July 1962 Andy Warhol exposed his Soup Can's for the very first time. In total he
painted 32 Campbell's Soup Cans in the manner that they were displayed in grocery
shops: next to eachother and at equal distances.
This piece of art was a provocation against the artistic society as he brought
supermarkets and art galleries to the same level.
