Scam Alert Caller ID Spoofing
WASHINGTON - USCIS issued a warning
about Caller ID Spoofing.
In a press note USCIS said, In recent weeks,
we learned of a new telephone scam targeting
USCIS applicants and petitioners. Scammers
are using a technique called Caller ID
spoofing to display a misleading or inaccurate
phone number in a recipients Caller ID. The
scammer poses as a USCIS official and
requests personal information (such as Social
Security number, passport number, or
A-number), identifies supposed issues in the
recipients immigration records, and asks for
payment to correct these records.
If you receive a call like that, USCIS urges you
to hang up immediately.
USCIS never asks for any form of payment or
personal information over the phone. Do not
give payment or personal information over the
phone to anyone who claims to be a USCIS
official. In general, we encourage you to
protect your personal information and not to
provide details about your immigration
application in any public area.
If you have been a victim of this telephone
scam, please report it to the Federal Trade
Commission at
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, or
report it to an appropriate state authority. (Visit
www.uscis.gov/avoidscams for information on
where to report scams in your state.)

Funny Jokes
AIRPLANE JOKES
Occasionally, airline attendants make an effort
to make the "in-flight safety lecture" and their
other announcements a bit more entertaining.
Here are some real examples that have been
heard or reported:
"There may be 50 ways to leave your lover,
but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane..."
/
Pilot - "Folks, we have reached our cruising
altitude now, so I am going to switch the seat
belt sign off. Feel free to move about as you
wish, but please stay inside the plane till we
land ... it's a bit cold outside, and if you walk
on the wings it affects the flight pattern."
/
And, after landing: "Thank you for flying Delta
Business Express. We hope you enjoyed
giving us the business as much as we enjoyed
taking you for a ride."
/
After a particularly rough landing during
thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant
on a Northwest flight announced: "Please take
care when opening the overhead
compartments because, after a landing like
that, sure as Hell everything has shifted."
/
After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix,
the Flight Attendant came on with, "Ladies and
Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until
Captain Crash and the Crew have brought the
aircraft to a screeching halt up against the
gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared
and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open
the door and you can pick your way through
the wreckage to the terminal.
/
From a Southwest Airlines employee....
"Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX to
YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal
tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just
like every other seatbelt, and if you don't know
how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be
out in public unsupervised. In the event of a
sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks
will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming,
grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you
have a small child traveling with you, secure
your mask before assisting with theirs. If you
are traveling with two small children, decide
now which one you love more.
/
"As you exit the plane, please make sure to
gather all of your belongings. Anything left
behind will be distributed evenly among the
flight attendants. Please do not leave children
or spouses."
/
Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very
hard landing in Salt Lake City: The flight
attendant came on the intercom and said,
"That was quite a bump and I know what ya'll
are thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the
airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't
the flight attendants' fault.....it was the
asphalt!"
/
TOO MUCH
On reaching his plane seat a man is surprised
to see a parrot strapped in next to him. He
asks the stewardess for a coffee where upon
the parrot squawks "And get me a whisky you
cow!" The stewardess, flustered, brings back a
whisky for the parrot and forgets the coffee.
When this omission is pointed out to her the
parrot drains its glass and bawls "And get me
another whisky you idiot". Quite upset, the girl
comes back shaking with another whisky but
still no coffee.
Unaccustomed to such slackness the man
tries the parrot's approach "I've asked you
twice for a coffee, go and get it now or I'll kick
you".
The next moment, both he and the parrot have
been wrenched up and thrown out of the
emergency exit by two burly stewards.
Plunging downwards the parrot turns to him
and says "For someone who can't fly, you
complain too much!"
/
RULES OF THE AIRWAYS
Takeoff's are optional. Landings are
mandatory.
Flying is not dangerous; crashing is
dangerous.
Speed is life, altitude is life insurance. No one
has ever collided with the sky.
The only time you have too much fuel is when
you're on fire.
Flying is the second greatest thrill known to
man. Landing is the first!
A pilot is a confused soul who talks about
women when he's flying, and about flying
when he's with a woman.

India-Pakistan arms race 'massive waste', says Nawaz
UNITED NATIONS - Pakistan and India have
wasted "massive resources" on a nuclear arms
race, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Friday
ahead of a landmark meeting with his Indian
counterpart.
"Our two countries have wasted massive
resources in an arms race," the premier told
the UN General Assembly. "We could have
used those resources for the economic
well-being of our people," he added.
"We still have that opportunity. Pakistan and
India can prosper together; and the entire
region would benefit from our cooperation."
He said he was looking forward to the chance
"to make a new beginning" and added "we
have a solid basis to do that". Sharif said
Pakistan and India must build on a 1999
accord which called for the resolution of all
differences through negotiations.
"I am committed to working for a peaceful and
economically prosperous region. This is what
our people want and this is what I have long
aspired for," Sharif said.
He also urged the US to stop drones strikes in
Pakistan.
On top of being nuclear rivals, the two
countries have disputed the Himalayan region
of Kashmir since 1947.
New clashes erupted again this week in the
region, split between the two, in a gradual
build-up since an ambush in August in which
five Indian soldiers were killed on the unofficial
border.
In his wide-ranging address to the UN General
Assembly, which received a warm round of
applause, the prime minister said Pakistan has
suffered grievously in the face of terrorism and
is firmly opposed to all forms and
manifestations of terror and would also explore
dialogue to end militancy.
Prime Minister Sharif said in the past 12 years,
Pakistan has given huge sacrifices, in blood
and resources.
"We have lost 40,000 precious lives of men,
women and children, which include 8,000
defense and security personnel. There have
been colossal damages to social and physical
infrastructure as well. Our economy has been
denied the opportunity to grow fully."
"This must change now. I have tried to forge
national consensus on a cohesive policy to
eliminate terrorism from our soil. For that
purpose, I convened an all Parties
Conference, which spoke unanimously against
terrorism."
"We are resolved to oppose the forces of
terrorism, by all means at our disposal. At the
same time, we have offered dialogue to end
violence, wean young extremists off
extremism, and integrate all segments of our
society into the national mainstream."
"Winning hearts and minds, particularly of the
youth, is as important as using guns to deter
terrorism. But dialogue should not be seen as
a sign of weakness or a tool of appeasement."
The war against terrorism must be waged
within the framework of international law,
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif added.

ALBANY - This past Sunday afternoon
candidates Kathy Sheehan and Jesse Calhoun
came to ICCD for a 'Meet the Candidate'
program. They are both running for mayor in
the city of Albany. They spoke to the Muslim
community on topics such as law enforcement
policies, safety other important top.
Kathy Sheehan (Democrat) has a high an
importance for education. She earned her
bachelors degree in journalism, and continued
her career in communications. Kathy attended
Albany Law School on an academic scholar-
-ship and graduated in 1994. In 2010 she
became Albany's Treasurer and Chief Fiscal
Officer. One of the points that Kathy made is
for the school system in Albany. She believes
that a high-quality education is a must for all
children at every step of their academic career.
As mayor Kathy says she will "Fight for
Albany's fair share of state and federal
education funds."
Jesse Calhoun (Republican) is an active
member of society. He is an educator, working
with three, four and five year old children.
Jesse is a musician in a band called The
Ameros and he also hosts an Internet radio
show to promote local people and discuss
topics relevant to Albany. One of the issues
Calhoun brings forth is of making the streets of
Albany safe, while still protecting the rights of
individuals. Jesse states that if elected he will
"Treat drug use as a health issue. By
employing a policy of healing, we will benefit
our families and residents."
During a brief Q & A session the most frequent
question asked was about their views on the
safety of the Muslim community from hate
crimes due to racism, to which their responses
were extremely against such actions. They
both expressed their opinion that no one
should be targeted based on their faith, and
the injustice is not going unnoticed.

Craig Apple - Albany County Sheriff Speaks on Safety of ICCD
ALBANY - Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple
came to ICCD this Sunday Sept 22nd 2013
and spoke to the community about the safety
and security measures we must take. Craig
Apple has been working with the sheriff's office
since 1987, starting in the County Jail (located
by Albany International Airport) then spent a
majority of his career in the criminal investig-
-ation unit. About twelve to thirteen years ago
Apple took the Chief Deputy position in
Albany, then moved on to taking the Under
Sheriff position about four years ago. Now
Apple has been a Sheriff for about two and a
half years, doing a splendid job in providing
Albany County with the proper means of law
enforcement to ensure public safety.
Apple is in charge of the Albany County Jail,
which is one of the largest jails in the state that
can hold up to 1,049 inmates with state of the
art technology. On an average we have 780 to
820 people from Albany in that jail and what
Sheriff Apple does to help decrease our tax
money spent in the County Jail is bring in
revenue by holding prisoners from neighboring
county's and charging them a daily fee. By
doing so he is generating about 5 million-dollar
revenue to the county, which goes towards the
the budget. The county has a budget of 40
million dollars for the County Jail alone.
Craig Apple took the opportunity presented to
him and reached out to the community about
making ICCD a safer place. This past Sunday
he briefly touched on a few aspects of how to
increase a sense of security when the public is
gathered at ICCD for Friday prayer or for any
event. During this past month of Ramadan, the
Sheriff's department was very kind in lending
us a helping hand by stationing a police car
outside ICCD to ensure our safety during
Taraweeh prayers. This is what law enforce-
-ment is for, and we must take advantage of
this facility we are provided with. Craig Apple
states "It was my pleasure to send somebody
over here while you folks went through your
religious services..we are not going to tolerate
people with discrimination and hatred and
emails.."
Apple went on to further state that we need to
be prepared for anything nowadays, whether it
is a storm, fire or God forbid an act of violence.
He then spoke on how to deal with an instance
of an active shooter, "..you either run, hide, or
you fight." Fighting is to be used as a last
resort if you were not able to get out of the
building or find a good hiding place.
Nowadays social media is so vast and it is
used to attack individuals through emails,
Facebook, Twitter and other social media
sources. Most people have probably been a
victim of such hate crimes, or know people
who have been. There is no preventative
measure in this, but there is a reactionary
measure. You can call the police, or the
sheriffs department, and report such things.
Law enforcement has the technology to find
where such threats are coming from and
pursue the individual committing the offense. If
we undermine it and let it pass, the problem
may increase. So we must take roll and report
these crimes to the proper law enforcement
officials, and if we do not get the satisfactory
response from our local police Craig Apple
stated that we are more than welcome to
contact him about such matters. "Its not 10-15
years ago, you really need to think before you
speak and when you do speak make sure you
know what the heck you're talking about and
you're not threatening anybody.."

Is there an
App
For Cultural Literacy?
By M.A. Waheed
Apparently not. It is an irony that in the
laboratory of life it is rare to invent or discover
the emotional apparatus that touches human
chords of understanding and bonding. Prof.
Prabjhot Singh in New York City, a Sikh by
appearance was haunted, taunted and
devastated by a group of youngsters pedaling
hatred and re-climbing the mountain of
misunderstanding against our Sikh brethren.
"Sikh" literally means a disciple in the Punjabi
language. Following tenets of the Ten Gurus
this peace loving community of 20m and the
fifth largest religion in the world has often
become a target by an army of cultural
illiterates. Mistaken as terrorists (as though we
can stereo-type a terrorist profile) the Sikh
community has suffered innumerable episodes
of violence and insecurity in a country that
boasts of a "melting pot" philosophy.
While law cannot and should not be hijacked
by uninformed, uneducated and unruly
hooligans and violence cannot be condoned at
any level against any community, it is our
responsibility to put this harmful gene back in
the bottle. Hailing from Punjab, the Sikh male
does wear a turban, does sport a beard and
does live in America. Like any ethnic
community he is proud to wear his identity.
Since when has grooming for "identity"
become "grooming" for disaster. Just like we
wear a dress for prom, a robe to a synagogue
or a uniform on police duty.the Sikhs
wear their attire.
One has to just visit a Gurudwara in any part
of the world and experience the hospitality of
this community that embraces one regardless
of color, faith, country, creed,
gender..During my college days, I
happened to be selected from my state of
Andhra Pradesh as one of the NCC cadet to
represent Hyderabad for a training course at
the Sikh Regimental Center in Meerut. It is an
unforgettable experience that I will always
cherish. Whether it was the parade ground, or
a bayonet drill or a meal at the mess or a
bhangra performance, the spirit of "Sikh" is
fully in flow non-stop. And this is evident even
today at the Guru Nanak Darbar in Niskayuna
at 1944 Union Street or the Gurudwara on 11
Michigan Avenue in East Greenbush. Faith,
friendship and food are flowing in quantities
that are beyond belief. A Sikh never asks
questions of your religious beliefs and
practices..he just welcomes you as a
human being and treats you with dignity and
respects your identity. Who are we to question
his beliefs of spirituality or dress code or
identity? God's creatures come in all shapes,
sizes and form. Whether it is a kirtan or kirpan
a Sikh is a responsible custodian of both. It is
a tragedy that while we migrated to the US we
are still struggling to migrate from the
migraines of racial hostility.
My friends Guryam Singh, President of Tricity
India Association and Mr. Maninder Singh
Kalra are great examples and testimonials of
peace loving ambassadors of the Sikh
doctrine. Nitty Singh in Tennis, Dr. Gary S.

A man with quality - Jarrar Hussain
An interesting and well known personality
who has so many qualities to do different
things at a time is Jarrar Hussain.
Jarrar Hussain has said that he belongs to the
Munj Rajput family. His grandfather, Khan
Bahadur Chaudhary Fazal Hussain Khan
Sahib (late) was a honorary magistrate of
Amritsar, Punjab, India. The British
government had given him (Khan Sahib), a
title for his kindness and good relations with
the people. Jarrar Hussains father, Chaudhary
Altaf Hussain (late) migrated to Pakistan in
1947 and started work in (Zimindara) Central
Cooperative Bank of Jaranwala (Layalpur)
Faislabad. Then he moved to the village of
Kamahan in Lahore because he owned land in
Lahore, and also had two younger brothers
Maqbool Hussain (late) and Imdad Hussain
(late), Deputy Superintendent of Police living
there.
Jarrar Hussain was the youngest son born in
1965. He migrated from Pakistan to the U.S
(the land of opportunities) in 1988 to fulfill his
dreams.
On first arriving in this country, he settled with
his elder brother Iftikhar Hussain in
Lafargeville, NY, near 1000 Islands, and
worked in Clayton and Watertown, NY, as a
produce and stock clerk in the Great American
Food store, but was unhappy with the very few
work opportunities there and so he moved
again, this time to Schenectady, NY with the
help of his friend Tahir Ayub, where he worked
three jobs trying to establish his future.
Jarrar Hussain wanted to have his own
business. He wanted to be his own boss and
wanted to make sure would have enough time
to spend with family, and he began to look into
Jarrar Hussain
opening a grocery store. He envisioned a
store that would sell international and
domestic groceries and have customers from
all ethnic backgrounds. At that time there
were no cultural markets in Schenectady, NY.
When he first decided to open a store in 1993,
he was already working two jobs. He realized
that a great deal of time and money would be
needed to get the business up and running.
He chose the name Great Ali Baba Groceries,
suggested by his friend Mirza Mujahid (late).
He had been going to New York City every
week because it was the only place to buy the
specialty foods for the store. He said it was
really hard to go to the city after you worked
all day and all night in the nursing home and
then go shop for groceries. Nobody can
believe it, but its true that I have been
working like this for four-five days without any
sleep many times, said Jarrar.
He is a very hardworking man and says he
would never even want to play the lottery
because he would not have earned it and he
would become lazy. I want to work hard, he
said, even if that means I have to work all
day and night.
Jarrar once worked 70 hrs. at Ali Baba
Groceries and 32 hrs. at the Hallmark
Nursing Home as a nurse assistant and also
spent some time on his other Ali Babas Indian
Spices grocery store on 10 Fuller Rd Albany,
NY 12205, to manage and make sure that the
store has enough supplies. In the nursing
home, he enjoyed working with elderly people
and learned from their life experiences.
Jarrar Hussain does not care about the hours
he works, he only cares about finishes what he
starts. He helped voluntarily for the Urdu
Albany Times newspaper, as a marketing
manager for a long time as well. He also
enjoys composing poems in Punjabi, Urdu,
and English, in his spare time. He also works
sometimes to translate English, Urdu, Punjabi,
and Hindi.
Jarrar belongs to a very nice family, who
include his wife, Rukia, and their four children:
Asim, Fazal, Fatima and Altaaf.
Jarrar Hussain, the only Muslim and Pakistani,
was honored by the Schenectady Museum in
an exhibit, Shaping Schenectady: builders,
reformers, and wizards that ran in the
Museums Broughton Gallery in 1998. Jarrar
was one of twenty-four citizens who earned
recognition, which the museum organized in
collaboration with the Schenectady
Bicentennial commission. Not only Jarrars
family and friends, but also the Muslim
community and people of Pakistan are proud
to have such a big reward for his hard work.
American Red Cross nominated Jarrar for the
Goodwill and Humanitarian award in 1999.
Jarrar was also nominated by the office of the
Managing Director for possible inclusion in the
2000 millennium directory of Foxingtons Whos
Who. was awarded the Jefferson Award by
the Times Union, Channel 13, and............

Waheed Mia
Dildar Dosti ka Wahid Khazana
Born amidst the turmoil and trauma of post
independence in Hyderabad, the infant
Waheed learnt his lessons in being resourceful
and resilient at a really young age from his
Nanima who hid him in a basket with chickens
to save him from communal terrorists who
were on the prowl for new-born male children
in his neighborhood. As a Nana, today, he
works shoulder to shoulder with his community
members at the Mosque, Gurudwara, Church,
Synagogue, Hindu temple and continues to
draw lessons from his convent school roots
coached by catholic nuns from Italy.
Undaunted by lifes many challenges, he is
always guided by a positive mental outlook
and a hunger for knowledge and
self-development. As a young college student
he founded the Young Orators club in
Secunderabad which meets even today on
Saturdays to foster intellectual development
and public speaking. During the Telangana
agitation when colleges were indefinitely
closed, he walked up to the YMCA and
persuaded the manager to provide him with a
meeting room so that he and a group of
like-minded students could engage in a
constructive activity instead of idling away.
MAW as he is known to his vast network of
friends, colleagues and well-wishers, is always
working on multiple projects and missions. He
is a man who does not know how to say No
to people. But that is what defines his core
persona. From a young age, he has learned
from Nanima that your life is not just a single
track that is meant to be spent in just satiating
your own wants and desires. It is in fact
spinning wheel of activity that involves sharing
M. A. Waheed
with family, friends, community members and
participating in various professional,
intellectual, social and cultural organizations.
Creativity is second-nature to MAW. Nothing is
beyond his imagination or reach. As an intern
at JWT in Kolkatta, he reached out to the
genius Satyajit Ray and interviewed him for
Deccan Chronicle. When Air Indias Kanishka
crashed in 1977, he walked up to the
Chairman of United India Insurance with a
news item that showed that none of the
passengers were insured and launched Indias
first and foremost Insurance advertising
campaign.
Whatever he does, MAW puts his heart and
soul into it and this love with which he goes
about doing even the simplest activity in his life
makes him a unique friend. Whether it is
slogging away under the scorching sun at a
busy Green Market near City Hall or
composing an email for a community
organizations annual festival, or even taking
his grand-daughter to a butterfly exhibition
down the road to a local museum, MAW does
what he does with the passion and care of a
friend who cares from his heart. And this
friendship is the treasure that he shares freely
with one and all. Waheed Mia mein

A scientist introduces his achievements by presenting his biodata. I have devoted the last 50 years of my life to the study
of science with the passion of a modern day Sufi. It is a good example for young people, who might someday follow in my
footsteps. I am the first member of my family to come to the US and am also the first or second Pakistani to get a PhD in
experimental particle physics. In grade 8, I had the good luck to go to St. Gregory High School in Dhaka Bangladesh,
where my science teacher Brother Donald Becker introduced me to atomic and nuclear physics. I was hooked; I came
home and told my father I know that I would become a physicist. I am presenting the landmarks in my life' journey from a
nervous graduate student to full professor of physics at University at Albany. Against all odds, I even mad chair of the
department. I was super lucky that I am associated with four major world class experiments in the last 30 years, As part of
these experiments, I have published over 1200 refereed papers and reported the discoveries of more than a dozen
particles like protons and neutrons. I have recruited over 30 Pakistani students, many of whom have completed their PhD
degrees. Personally, I have supervised 21 PhD students in experimental particle physics from all parts of the world. The
Pakistan Academy of Sciences and the Islamic World Academy of Sciences have both elected me as their member.
Below I present the highlights of my academic and research life. I plan to write a detailed biography soon.
