TOPIC 9: IN-LAB ACTIVITIES SEARCHING DATABASES AND MANAGING REFERENCES

UU100: Topic 9: Searching Databases and Managing References

All the answers for the In-Lab activity (TASK 1 & TASK 2) for the questions below will be checked in your Week 11 F2F Lab Class. TASK 1: Searching for and retrieving articles using ProQuest Database; importing references from ProQuest database into EndNote.

This activity is based on the topic given below: Topic: The avoid-ability of head and neck injuries in RUGBY: Should players wear head gear? 1. Develop search strategies and conduct an advanced ProQuest search to locate three relevant scholarly journal articles. Discuss your search strategies in a MS Word Document to show to your Lab Tutor in Week 11 F2F Class.

2. Email one of the three articles in pdf format to your student email account. Login to your student email account and check if you have received the article that you had emailed to yourself.

3. Import the records of the three journal articles from ProQuest to EndNote (refer to EndNote PowerPoint Guide 5: Downloading citations from ProQuest).

TASK 2: Creating groups for the references in EndNote; formatting the references using a selected citation style and exporting references into Word.

Create a new group and name the group Week 10. Add the three references that you had manually created above to this group (refer to EndNote PowerPoint Guide 3: Creating Groups). Format and export your citations in APA citation style. Save the reference list as RTF in WORD (refer to EndNote PowerPoint Guide 4: Formatting References using Citation Style).
