OIS ICT Student Helper Purpose: To get a student involved in a position of personal, interpersonal, and community ICTresponsibility for

his own growth, for the betterment of the school (fellow students, faculty, and staff undergoing a ICT pedagogic paradigm shift), and for the ICT teams own learning by helping the ICT Student Helper learn to learn. Working on campus at OIS (supervised by Brandon) 2-3 (flexible) days a week, 30min1hr/day (flexible) in the morning, during school (independent research class), and/or after school. Could help on weekends or holidays with prior consent of parent to help with bigger projects. Description of Duties (Provisional): Monitoring Equipment Use/Care Responsible for making sure that those who are using ICT around the school (includes all types of users: students, teachers, staff, parents, etc.) use/treat the equipment properly in line with applicable Acceptable Use Policy: seeing that ICT users do not have food or drinks at the computers. making sure users are not downloading questionable files or programs on the computers that could include spyware or other malware. etc.

Helps Maintain Equipment Responsible for basic (at first, increasing in complexity as he proves himself on the job) care and maintenance of some designated (by Brandon) ICT equipment: change the toner and add paper to printers make sure iPads are stored properly in classrooms etc.

Reference Materials When ICT user is having trouble with a certain piece of hardware, software, or operating system, etc., the ICT helper can provide the user with reference materials/manuals (in English and/or Japanese) that can help him/her learn more. The ICT helper can recommend online sites, books, and/or periodicals that can help lab users learn more about what they are trying to do. Can also help maintain equipment/software inventories, etc. organize all user manuals index useful reference sites online and share with others develop a personal troubleshooting (problemsolution(s))wiki for ICT user reference etc.

Sets Up/Shut Down Depending on the time of day (morning or night) responsible for setting up or shutting down various ICT.

turning on or off the lights, computers, printers and copy machines making sure iPads are plugged in, etc. etc.

Record Malfunctions If something doesnt function properly, ICT Student Helper will try to diagnose (but not fix) the problem to the best of his abilities. He must provide a written or verbal report (to Brandon) explaining what problem is occurring and the potential causes of it and suggest actions that could help fix the problem, while following through to the end of the process and learning the skills/thinking behind the fixes that the ICT team does take a regular diagnostic survey of problems around OIS

Provide Consultations Responsible for consulting with others who have basic ICT questions. This could include working with fellow students, faculty or other staff. He might also assist instructors or others with basic use questions and help them understand basic operation. In the situations when the ICT helper cannot answer a question, he should report to Brandon for help. software operations network connection printing web 2.0 tool useage etc.

Next Steps ICT Department will further define the above duties first together, and then in collaboration with Student ICT Helper.

ICT Department will arrange a work schedule and standing work request (what to do, and when) and/or work to define the conditions for self-directed work.

ICT Student Helper will give a weekly work report (days/times worked, and actions taken/solutions/problems) to Brandon. ICT Department will increase duties and responsibilities (and thus rewards) in a systematic way, based on performance and reliability.
