Apresentado por Presented by Antnio Cerveira Pinto Durante o Vero de 2013 fiz esta srie de 48 desenhos. Usei pginas de papel com dimenses de 46 x 60 cm e desenhei com recurso a acrlicos e colagens. Comecei sempre pela colagem central de um pantone. O assunto deste trabalho a matria cinzenta do crebro. [Miguel Palma] During the summer of 2013 I made this series of 48 drawings. I used sheets of paper with 46 x 60 cm and draw using acrylics and collages. I always started by using a central collage of a pantone. The subject of this work is the grey matter of the brain. Abstract: Quase uma dcada e meia dentro do sculo 21, e trinta anos depois de ter organizado a exposio e os eventos de Depois do Modernismo (Lisboa, 1983), com Lus Serpa, MichelToussaint Alves Pereira, Ricardo Pais, Ribeiro da Fonte e tantos outros, a minha reflexo tem rondado a pergunta que ento se fez: Acabaram ou no as dicotomias felizes?. Acabou ou no o moderno e o modernismo?. evidente que acabaram! E acabou tambm o tempo passageiro e superficial do ps-modernismo. Hoje, vivemos j aquilo que, lembrando Lyotard, diria ser uma condio ps-contempornea. Com sorte, ser o princpio de um novo renascimento, cujos contornos, porm, so ainda tnues. Para desenvolver alguma fenomenologia em volta desta intuio, resolvi iniciar um ciclo de exposies, textos e debates sobre esta suposta condio ps-contempornea, atravs de alguns artistas e obras que melhor podero ajudar-me a perceber o que se passa. [Antnio Cerveira Pinto, Setembro 2013] Abstract: Almost a decade and a half into the 21st century, and thirty years after I co-curated After Modernism (Lisbon, 1983), with Lus Serpa, Michel Toussaint Alves Pereira, Ricardo Pais, Ribeiro da Fonte and many others, I'm still wandering about a few old questions from then. Are there any happy dichotomies still around? I don't think so. Is modern art and modernism over or not? My answer to this question is a straightforward yes. Post-modernism is also dead. Today we live in what I would call, in a kind homage to Jean Franois Lyotard, a postcontemporary condition. With luck, it will be the beginning of a new renaissance, whose outlines, however, are still tenuous. To develop some phenomenology around these subjects, I decided to start a series of exhibitions, publications and debates about this post-contemporary condition, showing and discussing some artists and artworks. Expe desde o final dos anos 80. Na dcada de 90 consagrou-se como um dos artistas portugueses mais inovadores. O seu percurso artstico destaca-se pela criao de esculturas e instalaes no tradicionais. Trabalha frequentemente com equipas de engenheiros, mecnicos, carpinteiros e bilogos. As suas obras hbridas traduzem uma relao forte com a produo e o imaginrio industrial do sculo XX. Estas abordam a interferncia da tecnologia na vida do homem moderno, a relao deste com o ambiente, a ideia de conforto humano, ou mesmo a ideia de poder. Alm das instalaes, o artista recorre ao desenho e construo de miniaturas que funcionam como registos intuitivos do processo criativo e como objectos de fruio. Vdeo, livros de artista e performances so ainda plataformas do seu percurso criativo. Exhibits regularly since the late 80's and established himself in the 90s as one of the most innovative Portuguese artists. Miguel Palma artistic background followed the direction of multimedia installations, using nontraditional methods of production and working regularly within a team of carpenters, mechanics, engineers and biologists, oriented towards an hybrid area and linked with the industrial production of the 20th century. Palma's work often addresses how technology has influenced the life of modern man, its relationship with the environment, the idea of human comfort or even the idea of power. In parallel to the construction of large and medium scale installations, the artist often resorts to drawing and the construction of miniatures of his projects. These works function simultaneously as a record of the intuitive work process of the artist as well as objects of aesthetic appreciation. In addition, the artist also produces video, artist books and performances. Since 2007, Miguel Palma has been an artist in residence at different venues such as Location One (Nova Iorque, E.U.A.); Headlands, Center for the Arts (Califrnia, E.U.A.); Chteau de Servires (Marselha, Frana); ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program), New York, U.S.A; Montalvo Arts Center, Residency Program, California, USA; Desert Initiative, Residency Program, Phoenix, Arizona, USA. (Macau, 1952) Artista, escritor e crtico cultural. Dedica-se sobretudo actividade artstica, reflexo, escrita e direco de projectos multidisciplinares. Fundou e dirige a Aula do Risco, desde 1994. Escreveu at a data mais de 1700 textos de reflexo e crtica. A sua arte tem uma visvel marca conceptual. Idealizou com Carlos SantAna a extenso de Lisboa para a margem esquerda do Tejo (2005). Idealizou uma cidade tecnolgica para Montemor-o-Novo (1995). Idealizou a criao de um Museo de Arte y Nuevas Tecnologias na Corunha (1987). Participou na exposio inaugural de Centro de Arte Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid (1986). Participou na XII Bienal de Paris (1982). Est representado nas coleces, nomeadamente, do Museu de Serralves e do Museu Berardo. (Macau, 1952) Artist, writer and cultural critic, mainly dedicated to artistic activity and writing, as well as directing multidisciplinary projects. Founder and director of Aula do Risco ('risk school') since 1994. He has written over 1700 texts. His art has a visible conceptual mark. Created, along with Carlos Sant'Ana, a strategic and urban concept for extending Lisbon centre to river Tejo left bank (2005). Envisioned a technologic city for Montemor-o-Novo (1995) and the creative concept
for the Museo de Arte y Nuevas Tecnologias at Spanish town of La Corua (1987). Participated in the opening exhibition of the Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid (1986) and in the XII Bienal of Paris (1982). Is represented in the collections of the Museum of Serralves and Museum Berardo.
