Radioscopic Inspection

Objective :
To provide details to set up and do the examination of spiral welded pipes

Equipment that used :

Conveyer Detector Radiation source Real time imaging system Radiation protection Control panel System qualification Scan plan.

RADIOSCOPIC INSPECTION (IQI)

Image Quality Indicator : The function of Image Quality Indicator is to ensure the quality of image .

Example : The more the wire seen on the screen of the control panel , the more better the quality of an image .

RADIOSCOPIC INSPECTION (Safety)

1. To ensure the video camera and the flat panel detector is not damaged . 2. The complete camera must be wound back out of the way . 3. Do not stay in the room for a long tyme period . This is because the gamma of the X-Ray may cause injured . 4. They must be an support wall so that the gamma of the X-Ray cant penetrate .

Radioscopic Procedure

Warming up the X-Ray tube :

The reason why we have to warming up the X-Ray tube is to increase the hight voltage of the tube .

Disadvantages without warming up:

Improper warming up may result in tube failure .

Advantages of warming up:

Proper warming up may give an better result .

Radioscopic types of defects

X-Ray disadvantages and advantages

Disadvantages :
x-rays makes our blood cells to have higher level of hydrogen peroxide which could cause cell damage. A higher risk of getting cancer from X-rays. The X-rays are able to change the base of the DNA causing a mutation.

Advantages :
They also help in identifying bone cancer. X-rays are used to treat malign tumors before its spreads throughout the human body.

PROCEDURE FOR RADIOSCOPIC INSPECTION

When pipe is send to X-ray station it will be ready to inspect and below are the following sequence/steps for Radioscopic Inspection :

Step 1 : Take the ID of the pipe to record whether the pipe is accept or not . If the pipe

accept the will be inspect by X-ray, if it is not accept the pipe will be send back to repair station. Step 2 : When the pipe is accept, n.o of pipe will be set using Image Quality

Indicator(IQI). After the IQI is done, it will be fix on rear end and front end of the weld seam. Step 3 : After IQI is fix, one of the workers should will give an informationusing walkie talkie to make sure the pipe is ready for inspection. Step 4 : When the pipe is ready, a worker from the control room will open the bunker door activate the pipe into the bunker room.

Step 5 :

The control room of radioscopic inspection using a rotator to move the pipe into the bunker room. While the pipe moving, the moment the pipe reach into the room, a conveyer will receive the pipe. Step 6 : After all is done, the bunker door will be close for safety. Step 7 : Pipe will be move until the front end of the pipe be seen by the camera. Step 8 : The weld seam at the front end and rear and will be scan by using the X-ray tube. This is to identify any defects that can be seen. Step 9 : If pipe is accept, the bunker door will be open to let the pipe out send it to

Ultrasonic Inspection by using the conveyer and rotator. When the pipe body is released half of the pipe body then the rotator will receive the pipe so that the pipe will not fall down. Step 10 : But, if the pipe have defects it will be send to repair station. And the report of the defects will be record from the control panel and the defect will be print out.
