Statement of Purpose

Napoleon Bonaparte, the revered French revolutionist symbolizes military genius and political power. Martin van Creveld described him as "the most competent human being who ever lived. But despite all that he was not flawless, as his infamous Russian invasion turned out to utterly disastrous. Napoleon saw his mighty Grande Arme reduced from a fighting machine of over half a million trained soldiers, to a shattered and demoralized band of a few thousand. When the invasion was planned, Napoleon thought only of battling the Russian army, that he would fight Russian weather, poor infrastructure, peasants and his own hubris, did not occur to the leader. Though the French did not lose a single battle against the Russian Army until their infamous retreat, they began losing the battle with logistics and the Russian environment from almost the beginning of the campaign. Supplying a force to the size of Napoleons Army was a logistical nightmare for the French command. The troops had to endure constant hunger as the supply lines were completely blocked and owing to winters they started freezing to death. The Russian campaign, still regarded as one of the worst military decisions in history had revealed that Napoleon was not invincible, putting an end to his reputation as an undefeated military genius.

Ever since my childhood, I have always been intrigued and fascinated by the paradigm of Logistics management. My father served in the Pakistan Air force and that is where I came to know about Supply chain management. His friend worked as a Logistics officer, responsible for providing all the logistics support necessary to keep the aircraft flying. He also managed the supply chain from beginning to end, including the purchasing and storage of equipment, the use of complex IT management systems and the distribution of equipment by air on a nationwide scale. I must confess I wanted fill in his boots but unfortunately could not succeed .I did my MBA from International Islamic University with a majors in marketing ,as it is the linkup between a societys material requirements and its economic patterns of response. It is worth mentioning that during the degree I studied a course about Operations Management and thus realized the essence of supply chain and material management in a firms activities. As far as my working credentials are concerned I have done internship with International Federation of Red cross with hands on experience in Relief and Logistics department in the aftermath of floods disaster 2010 and had the pleasure of supervising the Software Requirement Specifications for TechMelo in accordance with a project aimed at controlling Tuberclosis in FATA region, handling the inventory management with the assistance of AGEG consultants. Unfortunately, in Pakistan there are not many avenues for studying Logistics management as a specialized degree. I would like to study Transport and Logistics management as I am excited by the prospects involving imaginative thinking and the solving of complex business problems. In todays global village, one cannot do without logistics. The subject encompa sses all sectors of business activities and it is has become part of human existence. Logistics has now evolved itself as an art and science. However, it cannot be termed as an exact science. Logistics does not follow a defined set of tables nor is it based on skills inherited from birth. A logistics manager

performs his duties and responsibilities based on his educational experiences, skills, past experiences and intuition. These skills are nourished by a constant application of the same by him for the betterment of his organization. The logistics manager ensures that the company is benefited by an effective and efficient system of logistical management. He also needs to ensure that the right kind of products and services are provided at the right time and for a right price, whether inside the organization's premises or delivery of shipments outside the premises of the organization. Logistics has evolved to be a kind of relief for many organizations that formerly looked upon it as a burden. Companies nowadays are hiring people with the requisite knowledge to deliver sustainable enhancements in the field of supply chain management. As has been the case throughout most of logistics history, the task of a logistics manager involves a clear vision and a drive within to deliver results under strict deadlines in addition to his usual responsibilities. Germany is considered the largest and most powerful national economy in Europe, the fourth largest by nominal GDP in the world. With its central position in Europe, Germany is a transport hub. This is reflected in its dense and modern transport networks. The motorway (Autobahn) network ranks as the third largest worldwide in length and is known for its lack of a general speed limit. Germany has established a polycentric network of high-speed trains. The largest German airports in Frankfurt and Munich are amongst the most modernized all over, both being the hubs of Lufthansa, while Air Berlin has hubs at Berlin Tegel and Dsseldorf. Wellknown global brands include Mercedes-Benz, BMW, SAP, Siemens, Volkswagen, Adidas, Audi, Allianz, and Porsche, On a personal level I have always kept a keen eye on football exponents with a particular eye on Bayern Munich while in the field of art and film the classical composition of the iconic Ludwig Van Beethoven and the 1981 epic war flick Das Boot are major favourites.

The International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef Bonn (IUBH) is one of Germany's leading private universities. With a broader spectrum of 300 companies recruiting the graduates, 90% alumini job success rate and 80% having management responsibility after 2 years the facts speaks volumes for itself and the prospect of joining the university sounds even more appealing. To be associated with IUBH offers me the chance of a lifetime and I am sure I can avail this opportunity to the optimum level. As far as the logical aims and goals are concerned, the diversified prospects include joining up the top logistics companies such as DHL and FedEx and exploring Port Qasim( Karachi),rendering my services in Pakistan. Also,if the opportunity arises after completion of my studies I would be eager to explore the port of Bremerhaven as it is the sixteenth-largest container port in the world and the fourth-largest in Europe .It is also a vital APM terminals network linking up the cargo and container inland services. I shall be highly obliged to you if you grant me the study visa and place me in a position where I can achieve something par excellence. Hoping to hear a positive response from you soon!
