Introduction For higher study in Engineering science mathematics play an important role .This syllabus of Mathematics I has been constructed for the student of BSTE. Objectives The topics in this syllabus are arranged in such a way as to enhance better learning and understanding vital mathematical concepts and principles and to achieve the ability to relate different areas of mathematics.
Course Details
1. Algebra Definition of determinants, Fundamental properties of determinants, Sarrus diagrams for determinants of order two and three, Application of determinants to linear equations (Cramers Rule). Definition of matrix, Transpose, complex conjugate and trace of a matrix, Special types of matrices with examples, Inverse matrix, Definition of rank of a matrix, procedure of finding the rank of a matrix. Definition of infinite series, convergent and divergent series, sum to infinity, to test whether a series is convergent or divergent. Inequalities, Some fundamental properties of inequalities, Cauchys inequality, to solve some problems related with inequalities. 2. Trigonometry Demoivers theorem, Deductions from Demoivers theorem. Expansion of sin and cos , Expansion of sinh and cosh . Eulers exponential values of sine and cosine, Hyperbolic functions. Gregorys Series. 3. Three Dimensional Geometry Orthogonal co-ordinates, Spherical polar co-ordinates, Cylindrical polar co-ordinates. Projections, Direction cosines.
The straight line, the plane and the sphere. 4. Differential Calculus Relations and Functions, Properties of functions, Domain and range. The concept of Limit and Continuity. Tangent Lines and Velocity, The Derivative, Computation of Derivatives, Maxima and Minima. Rolles Theorem, Mean Value theorem and their application. Taylors Series, Maclaurins Series. Partial differentiation, Tangent plane and Normal line.
