Equipment and Supplies

Students are expected to have the following for class: Instrument and related supplies; band method book (“Essential
Elements 2000 – Book One” to begin and later “Book Two”); binder; agenda and pencil.

Objectives
Course objectives are geared toward the Georgia Performance Standards for 7th Grade Band. Students will review their
progress from 6th grade with a review of fundamentals and concepts. After ample review and reconditioning, students
will continue in the method book where they left off from the year before. Students will then move to “Essential
Elements 2000 – Book two”. Students will perform one or more concerts each semester.

Expectations
• Bring required supplies to class everyday.
• Put your best foot forward and give your very best.
• Be respectful and responsible to your classmates, your teacher and yourself.

Grading/Evaluation
60% Assessment (i.e. tests, quizzes, projects, performances)
40% Non-Assessment (i.e. daily grade, worksheets)

Procedures
Students will come in and get their instruments and related materials ready for class. The warm-up routine will vary
depending on the progress and demands of the lesson plan. Students will play in a variety of settings – full ensembles,
small sections and individually. Class will conclude with an opportunity to clean and pack up instruments.

Homework
Students are expected to practice their instruments at home on a regular basis. Without doing their band “homework”,
students tend to progress at a slower rate.

Make-Up Work
It is rare that band students have written work to make up. On the rare occasion, three days will be permitted for make-
up work due to absences. Since the class tends to review the previous day’s material as part of the warm-up, students
will have the opportunity to cover new material. Students are always expected to review those exercises and concepts
during their at home practice time.

Examinations
First Semester: Friday, December 18th Second Semester: Friday, May 21st

Discipline Plan

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: Parent Contact
Step 3: Parent Conference
Step 4: Office Referral
