This is a traditional festival day in Japan. It is celebrated by 3 and 7 year old girls, and 3 and 5 year old boys. It is held on November 15th every year. Birthday This is a special day for everyone, but the date is different for everyone. For me its this week! On this day we can get presents or have a party. But we also become 1 year older. Golden Week This is a week in the Japanese year. It is made up of 4 holidays: Showa day, Constitution Memorial Day, Greenery Day, and Children's Day. This week is at the end of April and the start of May. Setsubun This is the day when each season begins, especially the start of spring. People shout "demons out, luck in!", and beans are thrown. The start of spring is on February 3rd. Obon This is a festival in summer. Many people dance on this day. It is held in July in the east of Japan, and in August in the west. Shichi-GoSan

Okinawa Katsuragawa Tanega Island Wakkanai Noto Peninsula These islands are between Japan and Taiwan. Many Americans are here. Its capital is Naha. This is the place where the 1-nen go every April. This is a place in Otsu where it snows a lot. The river joins the Kamo and Uji rivers. This is an island to the south of Kyushu. This is the island which Portuguese people first came to. They sold guns here. I don't understand. I don't know! This is most northern place in Japan. It is the capital of Soya Prefecture in Hokkaido. This place is north of Kyoto. It was hit by an earthquake in March. There are some famous places here, such as Wakura Hot Spring and Mituke Island.

Anpan This food was first made in 1875 by Kimura Yasubei. There is a TV show about a superhero whose head is made of this food. It is a kind of bread filled with red bean paste. This food is a stew made with chicken soup and lots of meat, tofu, fish and vegetables. There is lots of protein in this food, which can make you fat! It often eaten by sumo wrestlers. This is a food which Japanese people often eat in winter. It is made from many things, such as eggs, daikon, konnyaku, and fish cakes, cooked in a soy sauce soup. This food is sold by many convenience stores. This food is eaten when people are celebrating birthdays, weddings and holidays It is a kind of rice with beans. Its name means red rice. This is a kind of tea that Japanese people drink in summer. Most people drink it cold. It is made from barley and water.
