Executive Summery

It is a study for comprehensive market for M/s. Samarth Bharat InfoTech carried out in Taloja MIDC area.

The objective behind the project is to know the potential for IT solutions in Taloja MIDC. During my study I analysed the process of B2B sales.

The research was of explanatory in native which means data was collected from Head of Companies (Directors, Owners of the company). The sample design selected was random convenience sampling where the sample size was of 200 companies containing around 50 companies from each sector i.e. Engineering, Pharmaceutical, Fishery and Steel. The data collected where analysed on the basis of response given by the Head of Companies of various organizations and then converted into simple analytical tools such as bar diagrams and their respective interpretation is obtained.

For survey, a questionnaire was made to collect the primary data from the Director or Head of Companies of various organizations regarding their awareness level about IT services. Also Secondary data is collected from sources like companies websites, newspaper etc.

The next step was to determine the data analysis where I had identified the need about IT services in Taloja MIDC for M/s. Samarth Bharat InfoTech.

Finally the report contains the recommendation based on the study and the conclusion based on the findings.

2. INDUSTRY OVERVIEW

IT Industry: An Booming Industry

2.1 INTRODUCTION
Information technology (IT) is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data often in the context of a business or other enterprise. The term is commonly used as a synonym for computers and computer networks, but it also encompasses other information distribution technologies such as television and telephones. Several industries are associated with information technology, such as computer hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet, telecom

equipment, e-commerce and computer services. In a business context, the Information Technology Association of America has defined information technology as "the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems". The responsibilities of those working in the field include network administration, software development and installation, and the planning and management of an organization's technology life cycle, by which hardware and software is maintained, upgraded, and replaced. Humans have been storing, retrieving, manipulating and communicating information since the Sumerians in Mesopotamia developed writing in about 3000 BC, but the term "information technology" in its modern sense first appeared in a 1958 article published in the Harvard Business Review; authors Harold J. Leavitt and Thomas L. Whisler commented that "the new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology (IT)." Based on the storage and processing technologies employed, it is possible to distinguish four distinct phases of IT development: pre-mechanical (3000 BC 1450 AD), mechanical (14501840), electromechanical (18401940) and electronic (1940 present). This article focuses on the most recent period (electronic), which began in about 1940.

2.2 History of computers

Devices have been used to aid computation for thousands of years, probably initially in the form of a tally stick. The Antikythera mechanism, dating from about the beginning of the first century BC, is generally considered to be the earliest known mechanical analog computer; it is also the earliest known geared mechanism. Comparable geared devices did not emerge in

Europe until the 16th century, and it was not until 1645 that the first mechanical calculator capable of performing the four basic arithmetical operations was developed. Electronic computers, using either relays or valves, began to appear in the early 1940s. The electromechanical Zuse Z3, completed in 1941, was the world's firstprogrammablecomputer, and by modern standards one of the first machines that could be considered a complete computing machine. Colossus, developed during the Second World War to decrypt German messages was the first electronic digital computer. Although it wasprogrammable, it was not general-purpose, being designed to perform only a single task. It also lacked the ability to store its program in memory. Instead, programming was carried out using plugs and switches to alter the internal wiring. The first recognisably modern electronic digital stored-program computer was the Manchester Small-Scale Experimental Machine(SSEM), which ran its first program on 21 June 1948.

2.3 Academic Perspective of IT

In an academic context, the Association for Computing Machinery defines IT as "undergraduate degree programs that prepare students to meet the computer technology needs of business, government, healthcare, schools, and other kinds of organizations .... IT specialists assume responsibility for selecting hardware and software products appropriate for an organization, integrating those products with organizational needs and infrastructure, and installing, customizing, and maintaining those applications for the organizations computer users."

2.4 Commercial Perspective of IT

The business value of information technology lies in the automation of business processes, provision of information for decision making, connecting businesses with their customers, and the provision of productivity tools to increase efficiency. The Information technology industry in India has gained a brand identity as a knowledge economy due to its IT and ITES sector. The ITITES industry has two major components: IT Servicesand business process outsourcing (BPO). The growth in the service sector in India has been led by the ITITES sector, contributing substantially to increase in GDP, employment, and exports. The sector has increased its contribution to India's GDP from 1.2% in FY1998 to 7.5% in FY2012. According to NASSCOM, the ITBPO sector in India aggregated revenues of US$100 billion in FY2012, where export and domestic revenue stood at US$69.1 billion and US$31.7 billion respectively, growing by over 9%. The major cities that account for about nearly 90% of this sectors exportsare Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
3

Bangalore is considered to be the Silicon Valley of India because it is the leading IT exporter. Export dominate the ITITES industry, and constitute about 77% of the total industry revenue. Though the ITITES sector is export driven, the domestic market is also significant with a robust revenue growth. The industrys share of total Indian exports (merchandise plus services) increased from less than 4% in FY1998 to about 25% in FY2012. According to Gartner, the "Top Five Indian IT Services Providers" are Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro and HCL Technologies. This sector has also led to massive employment generation. The industry continues to be a net employment generator - expected to add 230,000 jobs in FY2012, thus providing direct employment to about 2.8 million, and indirectly employing 8.9 million people. Generally dominant player in the global outsourcing sector. However, the sector continues to face challenges of competitiveness in the globalized and modern world, particularly from countries like China and Philippines. India's growing stature in the Information Age enabled it to form close ties with both the United States of America and the European Union. However, the recent global financial crisis has deeply impacted the Indian IT companies as well as global companies. As a result hiring has dropped sharply, and employees are looking at different sectors like the financial service, telecommunications, and manufacturing industries, which have been growing phenomenally over the last few years. India's IT Services industry was born in Mumbai in 1967 with the establishment of Tata Group in partnership with Burroughs. The first software export zone SEEPZ was set up here way back in 1973, the old avatar of the modern day IT park. More than 80 percent of the country's software exports happened out of SEEPZ, Mumbai in 80s.

SWOT analysis is a trusted methodology within the software industry. SWOT is a strategic planning method that analyzes objectives through two internal and two external variables: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT). The methodology may be applied to any system with defined objectives, including the software industry. SWOT analysis begins with research into the software industry as it relates to possible business objectives. This includes competitive data for the software industry, as well as a full understanding of your organization's structure and status.

Strengths:
Strengths are the internal attributes of the company (or system) that may help to achieve the identified objective. Depending on the objective, any particular internal attribute may be either positive or negative. Factors may include marketing initiatives within your software market, programming personnel, management, software development and deployment capabilities, end user support structures, etc. Any internal variable that may impact strategy must be included.

Weaknesses:

6.3 METHOD USED

A survey is any activity that collects information in an organized and methodical manner about characteristics of interest from some or all population using well defined concepts, methods, and procedures and compiles such information into a useful summery form. A survey usually begins with the need for information where no data or insufficient data- exist. A survey can be thought to consist of several interconnected steps which include: defining the objectives , selecting a survey frame, determining the sample design , designing the questionnaire , collecting and processing the data, analyzing and dissemination the data analyzing and disseminating the data and documenting the survey .After the identification of objectives and purpose of the research project the secondary data was analyzed first followed by collection of primary data.
20

6.4 STEPS OF SURVEY

It may appear that conducting a survey is a simple procedure of asking questions and then compiling the answers to produce statistics. However a survey must be carried out step by step, following precise procedures and formulas, if the results are to yield accurate and meaningful information. In order to understand the entire process it is necessary to understand the individual tasks and how they are interconnected and related. The steps of a survey are: Formulation of the statement of objectives. Selection of a survey frame. Determination of the sample design. Questionnaire design. Data Collection. Data Capture and coding. Editing and imputation. Estimation Data analysis Data dissemination Documentation

6.5PRIMARY DATA
Research methodology specifies two types of approaches for primary research which are quantitative approach. Quantitative research is based on the measurement of quantity or amount. In depth interview was the method chosen for this project since the main objectives of the research is to understand potential of IT services. The interviews were either telephonic, personal interviews & E mails. The details of these methods are as follows

21

Questionnaire
Questionnaire are a popular means of collecting data, but are difficult to design and often require many rewrites before an acceptable questionnaire is produced. The reason why I went with questionnaire was Understanding of the underlying objectives for companys attitudes, preferences or behaviour. The interview was done by asking general questions. I encourage the respondent to talk freely.

One to one Interaction

The investigator follows a rigid procedure and seeks answers to a set of pre conceived questions through personal interactions. This method of collecting data is usually carried out in a structured way where output depends upon the ability of the interviewer to a large extent. I collect supplementary information about the companys characteristics and environment which is often of great value in interpreting results. Interacting one to one helped enhancing the type of data collected to well as my confidence. More information was collected apart from the questions in the questionnaire.

E-mails
An online questionnaire was made to send the companies who could respond through emails. It helped me gaining the following insightsMaking an formal and well organized questionnaire in an online format. Accessing the page and obtaining information through the spread sheets. It helped me to improve the understanding of the problems.

Telephonic Interviews
This method of collecting information involves contacting the respondents on telephone itself. This is not a very widely used method but it plays an important role in industrial surveys in developed regions, particularly when the survey has to be accomplished in a very limited time. Wide sector was covered by me through this because it was easy to do Recall, Call backs to collect economical data. With the help of this method I could quickly obtain the information.
