A Note from Miss Chandler Academics

Last week was a very busy week. I am pleased to say
that we will be back on track this week. Today we had a
small group of students from ALB come to our classroom
and teach us about Thunderstorms.
This Saturday, May 3, 3008 we are a community picnic.
It will be held in the field near the playground beginning
Reading: I have noticed lately that as many children read,
they are having trouble identifying the setting, problem and
solution in a story. This week we are going to be working to
identify these story elements as we read each day.
Comprehension is one of the most important parts of reading.
Please remember to ask your child some comprehension questions
about their homework book each week. In word study, we will
review: /ew/, /ue/, /oi/ and /oy/.

at 11:00. If it rains on Saturday, then it will be postponed
until May 16th.
If you look at the calendar, you will notice that next
week Mid-terms will be coming home. Although this
quarter is almost half way over, there is still a lot of
learning taking place in our classroom. Please remember to
read with your child each night, and assist them with the
homework. Many students are returning their homework
unfinished on Friday’s.

Writing: As we work on revision this week, students are
going to get an opportunity to help a partner fix their story.
Although many students have trouble adding to their stories,
most do a wonderful job finding ways to help another writer. In
addition, we are going to be writing letters to a class of K-2
students in Northern California.
Math: This week we are going to talk about how numbers can
be represented in many ways. For example you can show the
number 9 using tally marks, shapes, the number word and rods
and cubes. We will also review how to tell time to the hour and
half hour and how to order numbers. Please look for your child to
bring home a list of the addition facts they need to practice for
the week.
