Operating instructions Experiments:

1. Proportional controllers ( open loop ) 1.Select DC Signal source using signal selector switch, set the amplitude to some value say 1.00 volt. Connect the signal output to Vin terminal and feed back input to ground. 2. In the PID section select the mode key, for each press the top left side LCD shows SET P , SET I and SET D. Here select, SET P and press INC key to select the gain value for P, ie in steps of from 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2 and 5. Here select 1.and press ENTER key. 3. Now the parameter for P is 1 and other parameters ie, I is 00 and D also 00. 4. Now press the key RUN and PID is running. 5. Measure the input DC voltage level Vs by digital voltmeter and output voltage level. 6. If input Vin is 1.00v and P Gain value is 1, then output voltage level must be 1.00 volts. and if we change P Gain value to 2, then the output voltage value is 2.00 volts. Likewise set different P Gain value from 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 and also different input voltage levels. Observe the output voltage level and tablate it.

SPECIFICATION
1. Build in digital voltmeter, 2. Build in input signals, DC ,TRIANGULAR AND SQUARE WAVEFORMS 3. Varriable output singnal source. 4. Microcontroller based digital PID Controller circuit. 5. Build in Plant simlation circuit and plant disturbance. 6. Build in time constant and integrator and inv amplifier circuit.

Front Panel controls

1. Digital voltmeter to measure set voltage, feed back voltage and output voltage. 2. Signal select switch, which selects the input signals ie, DC , triangle or square. 3. Signal level control pot which controls the output signal level from 0 to 1.5v. 4. Signal output terminal. 5. Microcontroller based PID controller with 16 x 2 LCD display to show the PID Parameters and thier value. 6. Five keys to enter parameters, Mode select key, increment, decrement, enter and run keys. Mode key will select the parameter - P or I or D rotationally. INC Key will increase the selected parameter value from .01, .02, .05, .1, .2, .5, 1, 2, and 5 in steps. DEC key will decease the selected parameter values by above steps. ENTER or OK Key will enter the selected parameter values. RUN Key will RUN the PID Controller with selected parameters. 7. Plant simulation ckt input/output terminals. 8. Disturbance switch. 9. Process control Time constant ckt terminals. 10. Sampling time intervals for each cycle of operation is 3 milli seconds.

2. INTEGRAL CONTROLLER (OPEN LOOP)

1. Same as per proportional controller procedure, but SET I Value only, others ie P and D must be 00. 2. Follow the same procedure and tabulate the readings. 3. Select the square wave, as input signal source to 1 vpp and set I value as 0.5 or 1, then connect the out to time constant. Now observe the output in CRO as triangular wave. Adjust the I gain parameter for proper triangular waveform.

3. PROPORTIONAL CONTROLLER (CLOSED LOOP)

1. Select the DC source, set the amplitude of DC source to some value, say 1v. 2. Connect the PID output to time constant input and connect the output of time constant to feedback terminal of PID Vf as per shown. 3. Now follow the same procedure as per open loop. But this time measure the feed back voltage also. 4. Calculate the error voltage and multiply the error voltage with P gain settings, verify the calculated voltage with PID output voltage and tabulate with different settings of input voltages as well as P gain.

6. For Step response study. The PID controller can be clearly studied using digital storage oscilloscope. Connect the PID output to plant input terminals and plant output terminals to feed back terminals. Set input to say 1V. Set PID parameters as P =2, I = 1, D = 0.5 Observe the plant output in CRO and note down the output amplitude. Now press and release the Disturbance switch and observe the output voltage deviation and settling time to reach its final level. Observe for different Parameters settings.
