Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
You are the su1 o0 your 8!rogra1s8++++
Most people have little idea o" the e!tent to &hich their subconscious 'inds control
their lives - even doing 'uch o" their -thinking- "or the'. The latest research indicates
that during the nor'al daily routine/ &e are only truly conscious "or at 'ost about 12-
150 o" the ti'e.
That is 1ust a couple o" hours per day or even less. The rest o" the ti'e/ our
subconscious 'inds are in the driving seat.
2t sounds pretty &eird &hen put this &ay/ but the "act is that your li"e is only partly
&hat -you- think/ do or &ant to 'ake o" it - the rest by "ar the larger part# is actually
deter'ined by &hat your subconscious 'ind directs you to do.
When you think about it/ you can easily see the truth o" this$ 3ro' the 'o'ent you
&ake up/ your actions are probably 'uch the sa'e each day - you are literally not
-thinking- about &hat you are doing. 3or 'ost o" the ti'e you are on autopilot/ &ith
your conscious 'ind 1ust ticking over - rehashing 'e'ories "ro' the day be"ore/
vaguely planning/ "antasi4ing or idly generating other inconse5uential thoughts o" one
kind or another.
+ven &hen you consciously engage &ith a proble' or a change "ro' nor'al
circu'stances/ your ideas and reactions and even your thoughts &ill largely be
dra&n "ro' your stockpile o" previously stored concepts/ and reactions to si'ilar
circu'stances.
And &hen so'eone speaks to you/ do you really think about &hat you are going to
say/ or does a reply nor'ally 1ust -co'e to you- auto'atically6 that is/ &ithout
conscious thought#. We all have "irst hand e!perience o" the conversational abilities
o" the conscious 'ind in situations &here the connection to the subconscious
-speech pro'pter- is te'porarily blocked - "or instance in highly-charged social
situations involving e'otions such as anger/ apprehension/ e'barrass'ent/ "ear/
hu'iliation and so on.
7o it is no secret to anyone &ho has looked into al'ost any aspect o" -sel"
i'prove'ent- or -sel" help- that the key to real/ e""ective and per'anent personal
change is in the subconscious 'ind - speci"ically the belie"s and assu'ptions &e
hold deeply &ithin ourselves.
We are barely a&are o" this hidden belie" syste' &hich has usually been asse'bled
'ore or less at rando'/ and "or 'ost people consists largely o" illogical 1unk built on
un"ounded association# yet the subconscious parts o" our 'inds use this stu"" to drive
and control al'ost every aspect o" our lives.

Are you 'sleepwalking' right now?
We 'ay think that -&e- are in charge o" our lives/ that &e have -"ree &ill- to run our
lives. 8ut the truth is that our actions and even our very thoughts are in "act largely

governed by habit especially habits o" thought# and by the &ay &e "eel at any given
ti'e.
Take a 'o'ent to look at your reaction to that state'ent please re-read it i" you are
currently running on autopilot.#.
:o you re1ect it outright because you kno& that you 'ust be in charge because you
"eel in charge6 That any other possibility is -obviously- patent nonsense6 ;erhaps
you even "eel a direct e'otional response o" irritation/ even anger at such a -stupid-
suggestion6
8ut &hatever your reaction/ did you actually consider the ob1ective "acts/ or did so'e
pre-digested set o" thoughts si'ply spring to 'ind &ithout any real analysis6
2" you look closely at your response/ 2 can virtually guarantee that you &ill "ind that at
the root o" it is e'otion 'as5uerading as logic/ not logic itsel". A -"eeling- that leads to
a thought/ rather than the other &ay around. This is ho& &e all get through the day -
not by analysing each ne& thing &e encounter/ but si'ply by internally co'paring it
&ith our e!isting store o" -in"or'ation- and responding to the e'otional sti'ulus &hich
-co'es back-.
8ut the "eelings that are generated by our e'otional responses are (<T a part o" our
conscious &aking 'inds/ or even a direct conse5uence o" our thoughts. They
actually originate deep in the subconscious 'ind/ &hich constantly directs our
behaviour by -pulling our strings- and -pushing our buttons-.
When &e act in response to one o" these habitual cues/ &e 'ay i''ediately supply
-logical- reasons "or our actions so that &e can 'aintain an illusion o" being in control/
but in reality &e are to a very large e!tent under control.

such an iron grip6

Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
The ter' -subconscious 'ind- is a convenient catch-all phrase used to describe
practically anything that goes on in our brains &ithout us being consciously a&are o"
it.
8ut this concept covers a vast range o" processes ranging "ro' co'pletely
unconscious auto'atic syste's that regulate our basic body "unctions/ through those
that process =ra&> nerve inputs "ro' the body and senses and store and retrieve
re'e'ber# in"or'ation/ to actual independent thought processes that go on &ithout
our conscious a&areness.
2t used to be thought that the subconscious 'ind could be co'pared to a huge
&arehouse in &hich all our e!perience is stored/ &ith the conscious 'ind being
likened to a narro& "lashlight bea' that can "ocus attention on a s'all part o" this
heap o" stu"" in response to sensory input or co''unication.
?o&ever/ recent research using brain i'aging techni5ues has revealed a 'uch 'ore
co'ple! picture. (e&ly-developed -real ti'e- brain i'aging techni5ues are no&
allo&ing the brain to be observed as it &orks on various tasks. 2n e""ect/ actual
-thoughts- can be observed as they happen.

The data obtained in this &ay has provided a ne& understanding o" subconscious
'ental "unctioning. 2n particular that$
=subconscious> thought processes are not located in any particular spot/
or associated &ith either he'isphere o" the brain/ but are distributed
throughout the &hole brain/

they are co'pletely independent o" nor'al consciousness/ and
continue in the absence o" conscious a&areness/

conscious thought represents only about 15-200 o" the 'ental
processing involved in any given task/ the rest o" the &ork is carried out
subconsciously.

"he #alien being$ inside you
The picture e'erging is o" a conscious 'ind the part o" you that is reading this
ebook and considering these &ords# that is in e""ect only a =brain &ithin a brain> - a
s'all and isolated entity that e!ists &ithin/ and is largely governed by/ a 'uch larger
syste' A the subconscious 'ind.
This is (<T the =subconscious 'ind> that runs the body and interprets inco'ing
sensory data - these are auto'atic unconscious processes that the subconscious
'ind can control/ but &hich are not a part o" the subconscious 'ind itsel". 2nstead the
true subconscious 'ind is an actual thinking apparatus that is largely independent o"
the conscious 'ind and "ar 'ore po&er"ul than it/ and &hich has its own thoughts
and objectives.
The brain tissue that generates and supports the subconscious 'ind is physically
separate "ro' the =&iring> o" the conscious 'ind &hich see's to be located pri'arily
in the "rontal lobes o" the brain# and consists o" vast nu'bers o" super"ast neural
connections e!tending throughout the structure o" the brain. This syste' can access
a host o" processes not available to the conscious 'ind - it is e""ectively a
superco'puter o" enor'ous potential that can direct all the =auto'atic> "unctions &e
need to stay alive/ and 'anage and control all parts o" the brain/ including the areas
&hich generate our =consciousness>.
3or anyone &ho has not previously co'e across this idea/ it can be a little "rightening
to suddenly realise that 'ost o" the ti'e they really are si'ply not in control A that
al'ost everything they do and achieve is actually done and achieved at the
pro'pting o" an internal =entity> that 'ay even have co'pletely di""erent ai's and
intentions "ro' their o&n.
The subconscious 'ind is not really an -alien-/ or even separate "ro' us. 2t &as born
as a part o" us/ gro&s &ith us and &ill die &ith us. 2t is in a very real sense &ho &e
are - our personality/ habits and belie"s. As &ell as ensuring that &e eat/ drink/ sleep
and carry out all the other biological i'peratives &e have inherited/ it -auto'ates- all
the skills &e ac5uire as &e develop such as talking/ &alking or riding a bike#.
7ubconscious processes also try to keep us alive by 'aking us "ear"ul o" obvious
danger such as heights and potentially dangerous creatures "or e!a'ple/ snakes#
and by causing us to auto'atically react &hen physically threatened "or e!a'ple by
a car co'ing to&ards us at speed#.
8ut along &ith all these basic and generally bene"icial -progra's-/ the subconscious
also accu'ulates a ton o" garbage that leads to inappropriate "ears/ "eelings o"
inade5uacy/ unnecessary li'itations/ -personal proble's- and a host o" other
behaviours that either don-t serve us &ell/ or &hich actively con"lict &ith our
conscious needs and &ants. ;oor subconscious -belie"s- can and do also result in
physical 'ani"estations such as recurring illness/ clu'siness/ obesity and 'uch
'ore.
7o'e people - 1ust a very "e&/ and o"ten "ro' -privileged- backgrounds - have been
lucky enough to develop internal progra's &hich are largely positive. These people
tend to be success"ul in &hatever "ields they choose to enter/ are usually con"ident
and outgoing/ en1oy &ealth and success/ and generally lead rich/ "ul"illing lives. ;ut
si'ply/ they e!pect -success- and never doubt that this is ho& things &ill be/ and so
this is &hat their subconscious 'inds ensure that they receive.
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk B
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
)n"ortunately/ 'ost o" us are (<T that lucky. The "act is that 'uch o" the input the
subconscious gathers up &hen it -&rites- the internal directives that shape our lives is
irrelevant rubbish - negative co''ents 'ade by others particularly during
childhood#/ hurt"ul and da'aging e!periences o" al'ost any kind/ inappropriate
associations/ 'isunderstandings and so on. 8ut because o" the non-1udg'ental &ay
in &hich this part o" the 'ind &orks/ ACC perceived e!periences/ &hether use"ul or
da'aging/ accurate or illogical/ are stored a&ay and used to construct the syste' o"
internal -belie"s- used by the subconscious 'ind to direct our lives.
This 'eans that &ithout assistance/ our conscious desires and e""orts to lose &eight/
5uit s'oking/ be 'ore con"ident/ stop procrastinating/ or to e""ect change o" al'ost
any kind/ stand little chance o" success against &hat our subconscious 'inds direct
us to do. 3or 'ost o" the ti'e &e are at the 'ercy o" our subconsciously generated
-habits-. <ur e""orts to change by using our -&illpo&er- are al'ost al&ays doo'ed to
"ailure because our subconscious 'inds &ill invariably sabotage anything &hich
&ould result in a 'ove'ent beyond the li'its it has set. 2n virtually every &ay &e are
unconsciously tethered by a short leash/ yet 'ost o" us have no idea at all that it is
even there.
These li'its can be placed on al'ost any aspect o" our lives/ "ro' body &eight to
"inancial or social success. As soon as &e "ind ourselves approaching such a li'it/
&e &ill be auto'atically hauled back to our internal -set points- to as the
subconscious sees it# protect us "ro' risk or uncertainty. 8ecause o" this/ anyone
seeking intentional change/ &hether it involves dieting/ e!ercising/ increasing their
inco'e/ behaving 'ore con"idently in social situations/ or getting rid o" inappropriate
behaviours and habits/ &ill "ind the'selves in con"lict &ith their subconscious
guidance syste'.
And 'ake no 'istake - in this battle there can be only one outco'e$ they &ill lose.
The subconscious 'ind is i''ensely po&er"ul. 2t has encyclopaedic kno&ledge o"
you and all the people you co'e into contact &ith/ and po&ers to -'ake things
happen- that &e are only 1ust beco'ing a&are o". Against this po&er/ your -&illpo&er-
is a "eeble thing indeed/ as the al'ost universal "ailure o" diets/ atte'pts to get "it or

Ho2 the su"#ons#ious 1ind 2or,s

:espite its tre'endous po&er over our lives/ this 'ysterious entity is in 'any &ays
neutral/ and by our conscious# standards 'ay see' very strange/ even stupid.
The subconscious 'ind doesn-t appear to 5uestion the directives it "ollo&s A it>s only
concern is that they AD+ "ollo&ed. 2t see's to lack initiative and logical reasoning
po&ers/ and so cannot or at least appears not to# apply logic or 1udge'ent to the
data it receives. +!peri'ents have even been conducted that de'onstrate that the
subconscious does not distinguish bet&een an actual e!perience and an i'agined
one. 2'agine &alking to the edge o" a 'assive and cru'bling cli"" on a &indy day/
and looking do&n to the rocks hundreds o" "eet belo& A &hat do you "eel6 <r
visualise as clearly as you can any situation that has 'ade you very "rightened in the
past - do you "eel "ear/ even i" it is no&here near as intense as it &as at the ti'e6
De'e'ber that "eelings are controlled by the subconscious 'ind.#
2t =thinks> pri'arily in pictures and sy'bols/ and its language capabilities appear to be
li'ited to those o" a 5 or @ year old child. 3or e!a'ple/ the subconscious is
apparently unable to properly understand negatives no/ not/ none/ never etc.#/ or to
be able to correctly interpret co'ple! =nested> sentences or subclauses i"J/
provided that..#. 2ts understanding o" language appears to be co'pletely literal/ &ith
no consideration o" conte!t. As a result it see's to be totally con"used by spoken
=ho'ophones> &ords that sound the sa'e/ such as pair%pear/ hear%here/
sense%cents%scents/ their%there%they-re/ etc.#.
The i'plications o" these observations are very i'portant &hen co''unicating &ith
the subconscious 'ind/ as &e &ill see later.
2n 'any &ays the subconscious 'ind see's to operate in a 'anner that has been
called -savant autistic-/ &ith enor'ous resources and po&er being controlled by an
e'otionless co'puter-like entity &ith "e& o" the reasoning and co''unication
capabilities &e associate &ith the conscious 'ind. As an aside/ it is re'otely
possible that the condition labeled =autis'> 'ay re"lect a "ailure to develop or e!press
a nor'al conscious 'ind to one degree or another/ leaving the undirected
subconscious 'ind partly or co'pletely in control at all ti'es.#
7o &e see' to have evolved a rather curious 'ental structure in our incredibly
co'ple! brainsK an enor'ously po&er"ul -subconscious> 'ind lacking reason and
initiative/ and a rather "aulty but very active =conscious> 'ind &hich is largely
governed by the subconscious/ but &hich in turn supplies i'portant controlling input
to it.
:espite is great po&ers/ the "act is that the subconscious 'ind relies on the
conscious 'ind to =interpret> the &orld/ especially the &orld o" hu'an society/ and to
deter'ine the goals and -instructions- it should act on/ based on this interpretation.
These instructions are the'selves derived not "ro' the essentially neutral input that
the brain receives "ro' its senses and bodily "eedback/ but "ro' the reactions o" the
conscious 'ind to these inputs together &ith the e'otional reactions they have given
rise to. This results in 'illions o" -"eedback- loops &hich auto'atically strengthen as
stored reactions are "ed back to the conscious 'ind each ti'e an e'otional 'e'ory
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk L
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
is triggered/ and the e'otionally coloured response is in turn "ed back to the
subconscious storehouse.
2n other &ords/ the subconscious acts on &hat you have perceived throughout your
li"e/ rather than on any ob1ective reality. This includes all the social and e'otional
baggage you have attached to every situation and set o" circu'stances you have
ever e!perienced/ including all those you ac5uired through childhood and puberty/
&hen to put it 'ildly# you &ere not in control o" yoursel" or your &orld. This is &hy
-role 'odels- observed during childhood especially parents# co'e to play such an
i'portant part in the paths our lives take.
8ut even 'ore i'portantly/ the po&er o" the e'otional -"eedback loop- attached to
every little event in our lives acts to re-in"orce our progra''ed reactions/ giving rise
to deeply entrenched habits &hich beco'e ever 'ore di""icult to change.
7o in the absence o" any conscious direction/ the subconscious si'ply runs in de"ault
-sa"e- 'ode - ensuring that &e stay out o" -danger- by never venturing beyond the
internal li'its &e have set "or ourselves/ and &hich actually gro& stronger over ti'e i"
&e do nothing about the'. 2" &e &ere "ear"ul/ hesitant/ unsure/ &orrying or
procrastinating the last ti'e &e encountered a particular set o" circu'stances/ our
subconscious 'inds &ill ensure that this is e!actly ho& &e "eel and act the ne!t ti'e
around. +ven i" &e have si'ply i'agined a situation at so'e ti'e and reacted
e'otionally to this -virtual- scenario/ the reactions &ill be absorbed by the
subconscious because even our thoughts are a part o" our li"e e!perience.
The botto' line is that &e are continuously and unconsciously co'pelled to do 'ore
o" the sa'e so that &e get 'ore o" the sa'e. 2t-s rather like possessing a large/
po&er"ul car &hich is capable o" e""ortlessly taking us huge distances to e!citing ne&
places &henever &e &ant/ but only ever using it to a'ble ai'lessly and &ithout
purpose around our local backstreets.

How the subconscious mind programs itself
The subconscious 'ind tries to decide &hat is i'portant and &hat is not
si'ply by =listening in> on the conscious 'ind at all ti'es/ and giving priority to
the things that it decides the conscious 'ind regards as i'portant.
)n"ortunately/ the &ay in &hich the subconscious decides &hat is i'portant to us is
not necessarily the &ay &e &ould &ant it to be. This is probably because the
conscious =chattering> 'ind generates volu'es o" totally inconse5uential thoughts
during any given day/ and so the subconscious needs a &ay o" "iltering out all the
ephe'eral rubbish to get at &hat is genuinely i'portant.
The &ays in &hich the subconscious 'ind "ilters output "ro' the conscious 'ind in
order to esti'ate the =i'portance> o" conscious thoughts and desires are 5uite
straight"or&ard$

Emotional loading
Thoughts that are charged &ith e'otion are taken to be i'portant. As &e have seen/
the subconscious 'ind itsel" is essentially neutral - it si'ply =observes> the strea' o"
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk 10
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
data co'ing "ro' the senses and bodily "eedback &ithout applying interpretation or
value 1udge'ents. 8ut at the sa'e ti'e/ it notes the reactions o" the conscious 'ind
to these inputs together &ith the e'otional reactions they have given rise to/ and
takes these e'otional =tags> as cues that indicate &hat is to be considered i'portant
and &hat is not.
A si'ple e!a'ple &ould be pain. The subconscious 'ind "eels no pain/ but it
observes &hat circu'stances give rise to the negative sensation o" pain as
registered by the conscious 'ind. <nce the association is 'ade/ the conscious 'ind
&ill be auto'atically steered a&ay "ro' si'ilar sets o" circu'stances in order to
avoid repeating the pain-producing event. This process is co''on to virtually all
ani'als o" course/ but in hu'ans the subconscious syste' is 'uch 'ore co'ple!
and predictive/ and includes social and e'otional -pain-. 2nterestingly it has recently
been discovered that e'otional pain such as that arising "ro' grie" activates e!actly
the sa'e areas o" the brain as physical pain.#

Association
=2'portance> can also be con"erred by association. The e'otion that is e!perienced in
connection &ith so'ething "eared or &orried about/ or conversely &ith so'ething
desired and anticipated does not have to be direct. 2t can be =by association> that is/
indirectly by connecting one thought that starts out neutral &ith another &hich already
has an e'otional loading. 2" the association is strong/ the e'otional loading attached
to the associated idea or e!perience &ill be trans"erred to the ne& thought. This is a
'a1or principle used by the psychological toolset kno&n as (C; neuro-linguistic
progra''ing#.

Repetition
The third criterion the subconscious uses to establish the i'portance o" a thought is
repetition. 2" the sa'e or si'ilar thoughts are repeated o"ten enough/ even i" no
particular e'otions are attached and there are no established associations/ then the
sub1ect o" these thoughts &ill gradually edge up the scale o" i'portance. 2" the
repetition continues "or long enough usually ,-9 &eeks# then -internalisation- takes
place and the thought &ill enter the subconscious =goal list>. This o" course is the
'ain basis o" all -visualisation- and =a""ir'ation> type sel" help progra's/ although
'any o" these &ill also 'ake use o" e'otional loading and association in order to
strengthen the positive e""ect.

%ringing the power of the subconscious mind on to
&'() side

<*/ so &here does all this leave us6 <ur lives are largely directed by our
subconscious 'inds/ and in turn our subconscious 'inds take their o&n direction
"ro' the -belie" syste'- each has largely cobbled together "ro' the huge pile o"
'i!ed but 'ostly negative# 1unk it has accu'ulated via the conscious 'ind.

3ascinating/ but al'ost entirely useless i" there is nothing 'uch &e can do to change
things.
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk 11
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
)n"ortunately/ as hu'ans do not see' to co'e &ith an instruction 'anual/
there is no &ay &e can kno& all this until &e i" &e are lucky# discover the
truth in adult li"e. And by then o" course a great deal o" da'age has usually
been done. At best a rando' selection o" 'ostly negative =goals> has by
de"ault beco'e our -guidance syste'> and the po&er &e actually have to get
&hat &e &ant is either &asted or even actively used against us.
8ut as &e have seen/ the subconscious 'ind is essentially neutral. 2t si'ply
doesn-t care &hat you consciously &ant - it 1ust directs your li"e according the
-data- it has stored. 7o &hat i" instead o" placing yoursel" in con"lict &ith your
subconscious directives/ you can 5uietly change the -data- stored in the
subconscious so that it supports rather than opposes &hat you consciously
desire6
(o&/ the situation is rather di""erent. A gap &ill have been created bet&een
the directives stored in the subconscious 'ind and the reality you are
e!periencing. 2n e""ect your internal ther'ostat-s -set point- &ill have been
altered. 7o instead o" 'aintaining the status 5uo by any 'eans available to it/
the principal ob1ective o" the subconscious no& beco'es to bring about a
reality that corresponds &ith its ne& directives/ i.e./ 'atches the ne& -set
point-.
2nstead o" opposing your &ishes/ the enor'ous po&er o" the subconscious beco'es
your greatest ally. (o& it &orks on your behal" to bring &hat you &ant into your li"e/
o"ten al'ost &ithout conscious e""ort and in &ays that can see' al'ost 'agical at
ti'es. 2t continually seeks &ays to rein"orce your ne&/ positive e!perience/ in e!actly
the sa'e &ay that it previously built po&er"ul conditioned responses to li'it or block
any change. And it &ill do this &ith all the sa'e une'otional e""iciency and po&er
that previously kept you caged on your -old- reality.
Fou &ill 5uickly "ind yoursel" 1ust naturally doing those things you need to do to
achieve your conscious goals/ even i" these previously see'ed di""icult or even
i'possible. Fou &ill discover internal reserves o" energy/ drive and persistence you
never kne& you had/ and old tendencies to procrastinate or "lit "ro' one thing to
another &ill 1ust "all a&ay. (e& ideas and &ays o" doing things &ill beco'e -obvious-
and you &ill "ind others even people you have never 'et# actively co-operating to
bring about your ob1ectives.
Four circu'stances &ill suddenly start to be 'ore benign/ and 'ore and 'ore you
&ill e!perience apparent co-incidences and -serendipitous- events that all contribute
to your success/ and &hich o"ten see' to co'e right out o" the blue. 3inally/ the
e!cite'ent/ anticipation and &onder that you 'ay not have e!perienced since
childhood &ill return to your everyday li"e as you "ind yoursel" 'ore and 'ore in
control.
This 'ay all see' hard to believe/ but this kind o" li"e -in the "lo&- is beco'ing reality
"or increasing nu'bers o" people &ho are discovering ho& to bring it about/ and it

&hat li"e has to o""er right no&.
(o&/ the tre'endous po&er that 'ay have &orked against you "or 'ost o" your li"e
&ill "inally be &orking &ith you - an unstoppable co'bination/ 1ust as it &as -designed-
to be.
This 'ighty ally is ready and &illing to bring into your &orld everything that you desire
and need in order to live your li"e to the "ull. All it lacks is your direction - your speci"ic
instructions and clear goals/ delivered in a &ay it understands. <nce it has these
directions/ your subconscious 'ind &ill set about its ne& purpose &ith total
dedication - to 5uickly and e""ortlessly bring you &hatever you &ant. 2ts as si'ple as
that.
There is only one proble' - but it is 5uite a large one. Must ho& e!actly do you go
about changing the deep-seated and apparently inaccessible directives that 'ay
have taken decades to "or'/ and o" &hich you are probably al'ost co'pletely
una&are o" at a conscious level6

Ho2 you #an 8#hange your 1ind8
Hirtually all success"ul 'ethods o" bringing about lasting personal change have
revolved around one idea - to actively re-&rite the internal instruction set that
deter'ines behaviour. 2n short/ to replace subconscious -1unk- directives that result in
li'itation/ unhappiness/ bad habits and dys"unction o" any other kind/ &ith ne&
-positive- directives that re"lect and support positive conscious desires.
The concept is si'ple - change the -progra'- to change the outco'e/ i.e./ the pattern
o" our lives.
As &e have seen/ the subconscious 'ind is po&er"ul enough to ensure that you "ail/
no 'atter ho& 'uch you consciously &ant a thing/ or a situation/ or so'e change in
yoursel"/ i" it-s internal directives con"lict &ith your desires.
The 'ost burning conscious desire is no 'atch at all "or an opposing subconscious
directive/ even &hen this directive arises "ro' "aulty or even laughable -belie"s-
e'bedded deeply belo& conscious a&areness in the subconscious 'ind.
8ut the subconscious 'ind is not in any &ay hostile to your conscious desires A it
si'ply ignores the' because they have not yet been presented in a &ay it
recognises.
7o your task is in theory relatively unco'plicated$
1. 2denti"y an area o" your li"e &here you &ould like to change. This can be
anything "ro' ac5uiring 'ore 'oney/ through losing &eight/ to stopping an
un&anted habit such as s'oking/
2. 3or'ulate this desire in a &ay the subconscious understands/
,. Go''unicate this in"or'ation to the subconscious in a "or' it &ill pay
attention to and incorporate in its directives/ W2T?<)T si'ultaneously
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk 1,
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
co''unicating any con"licting 'essages/ or giving rise to resistance.
A si'ple enough idea/ but ho& in practice can it be achieved6

(pgrading your 'software'
<ver the years 'any 'ethods o" -reprogra''ing- the subconscious have been
evolved A =positive thinking>/ repeating a""ir'ations/ hypnosis/ subli'inal suggestion/
and 'ethods such as psycho-analysis and (C;/ &hich 'ake use o" language and
sy'bolis' to try to access and in"luence the subconscious instruction set.
?o&ever/ 'ost o" these 'ethods re5uire either a =practitioner> or =therapist> &ho 'ust
be present to "acilitate and 'anage a session/ or alternatively they re5uire a great
deal o" introspection and &ork on the part o" the sub1ect. As a result/ 'any o" these
techni5ues are not practical in an everyday conte!t A they either cost too 'uch
because another person has to be involved/ or they are too co'plicated and take too
'uch o" the ti'e that busy people cannot spare.
What is really needed is an e""ective/ repeatable syste' "or bringing about personal
change that is &ithin the "inancial reach o" 'ost people/ &hich can be delivered to
anyone &ho &ishes to 'ake use o" it/ and &hich does not de'and enor'ous
a'ounts o" ti'e or e""ort.
<ne o" the 'ost co''only available syste's is -subli'inal progra''ing-/ &hich
nor'ally involves the presentation o" spoken a""ir'ations delivered in so'e &ay that
is not clearly perceived by the conscious 'ind/ but &hich are intended to be
understood and processed subconsciously. When delivered correctly/ recorded
subli'inal suggestion can indeed be an e!tre'ely po&er"ul -conditioning- techni5ue.
)n"ortunately/ until the results o" so'e very recent research beca'e available/ even
the very best products &ere co'pro'ised by a lack o" in"or'ation on subconscious
'ental "unctioning/ and by so'e &idely accepted but incorrect# assu'ptions that
have "re5uently crippled their e""ectiveness.

*roblems with conventional 'subliminal recordings'
-7ubli'inal perception- re"ers to the ability to perceive and respond to sti'uli that are
belo& the -li'en- or threshold o" conscious perception. There is no& a vast a'ount o"
anecdotal evidence and testi'onials and a gro&ing body o" research evidence that
subli'inally presented verbal suggestions can and do alter thought patterns and
behaviour in those e!posed to the'/ providing certain conditions are 'et.
8ut because o" the 'isconceptions and 'isunderstandings that o"ten guide the
production o" 'any co''ercial =subli'inal> recordings/ their potential "or e""ecting
personal change is o"ten seriously co'pro'ised. At best this 'eans that only 'odest
changes are bought about/ and o"ten no change is e!perienced at all.
These are so'e o" the 'ost co''on proble's$
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk 19
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
<ver-'asking
Many designers o" subli'inal recordings &ork on the scienti"ically unsubstantiated
pre'ise that the subconscious 'ind has the ability to hear and understand speech
signals that are hundreds/ even thousands o" ti'es 5uieter than the 'usic or nature
sounds that cover the'/ or &hich have been shi"ted to very high "re5uencies/ played
back at very high speeds/ or even played in reverse -back-'asked-#.
)n"ortunately/ &hat little scienti"ic research that has been carried out to deter'ine the
actual li'its at &hich spoken &ords can be heard and understood at a subconscious
level by any nor'al listener provides little support "or the idea o" the e!istence o"
literally superhu'an abilities o" this kind.
2nstead &hat has beco'e clear is that &hile subconscious perception de"initely
e!tends beyond the conscious ability to understand speech 'asked by other sounds/
or distorted by "re5uency or speed shi"ts/ the li'its are only slightly e!tended relative
to nor'al conscious perception.
While the scienti"ic evidence and the e!ploits o" -psychological illusionists- such as
:erren 8ro&n strongly de'onstrate that the subconscious 'ind can perceive and
process "ar 'ore in"or'ation than the conscious 'ind/ its input is still li'ited by the
physical operation o" the senses it uses/ in this case our sense o" hearing.
7ound is si'ply a signal trans'itted by pressure &aves 'oving through the air/
&hich then vibrates the co'ponent parts o" the inner ear. 2" the signal is too &eak/ or
too deeply buried under a 'uch stronger ='asking> sound/ the ear &ill 1ust not pick up
the vibrations and the signal 'ight as &ell be entirely absent.
2n practice this 'eans that in order to have an e""ect/ subli'inal suggestions
e'bedded in recordings 'ust in "act be &ithin the nor'al range o" detection and at
'ost# only 1ust belo& the level at &hich they could nor'ally be consciously
understood/ or replayed at a speed or pitch &hich is only 1ust beyond nor'al
perception li'its.
The vast 'a1ority o" -subli'inal- recordings "ail to 'eet this very basic criterion/ and
are in "act co'pletely undecipherable by the subconscious 'ind because the speech
signals contained in the' are too &eak/ distorted or highly pitched to be heard or
understood at any level.
:istracting or irritating sound 'asks
8ecause/ by their nature/ co''ercial recordings are 'ade "or a 'ass 'arket/ it can
be di""icult to choose a =sound 'ask> the audio track you hear/ as opposed to the
=subli'inal> track hidden by it# that suits everyone.
(ature sounds such as ocean &aves or running &ater are generally the sa"est
option/ but 'any 'anu"acturers also use =a'bient 'usic>/ classical 'usic or other
sound tracks that be i''ediately irritating or &hich beco'e so &ith ti'e and
repetition.
2" the listener beco'es irritated this &ill i''ediately reduce the degree o" rela!ation
and create a positive barrier to the suggestions e'bedded in the recording. And o"
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk 15
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
course there is al&ays the =<33> buttonJ. (either o" these outco'es is likely to
i'prove the e""ectiveness o" a recording.
2ncorrect phrasing o" e'bedded suggestions
8ecause o" &idespread con"usion over the nature o" the subconscious 'ind/ the
language used in the =subli'inal> suggestions e'bedded in 'any co''ercial
recordings is o"ten not appropriate. This issue also e""ects the potential use"ulness o"
-hypnosis- recordings/ as the sa'e levels o" 'ind are targeted.
2n "act the subconscious 'ind processes in"or'ation pri'arily in sy'bolic or directly
pictographic i'agery# "or'. 7poken language is a tool the conscious 'ind uses to
co''unicate &ith other conscious 'inds/ and so re"lects the &ay in &hich the
conscious 'ind &orks. 3or this reason it is not an ideal tool "or co''unicating &ith
the subconscious 'ind/ &hich has very li'ited language processing capabilities.
3or this reason it is i'portant to li'it =suggestions> to short and si'ple phrases and to
avoid =5uali"ying> &ords/ especially negatives such as no/ none/ never etc. 2n
addition/ because the subconscious 'ind does not see' to deal &ith the concept o"
ti'e in the sa'e &ay as the conscious 'ind/ the use o" tenses other than the
present tense 2 a'/ etc.# should be avoided.
There are 5uite a large nu'ber o" si'ilar issues that arise &hen constructing
e""ective subli'inal suggestions/ but "or the 'o'ent it is only necessary to recognise
that the precise phrasing o" subli'inal suggestions is o" great i'portance/ and that
"ailure to get the phrasing right &ill render suggestions ine""ective/ or even cause
the' to have e""ects opposite to those intended.
-<ne si4e "its all-
The designer o" a subli'inal recording has to 'ake a lot o" assu'ptions. ?e or she
obviously cannot kno& the actual needs o" the listener/ and so has to guess at the
causes o" a proble' and address these issues. This 'eans that the e'bedded
suggestions are o"ten generalised/ and 'ay even 'iss the 'ark entirely.
3or e!a'ple/ i" =over&eight> is the proble'/ 'any subli'inal product 'anu"acturers
&ill &ork &ith the "re5uently voiced/ but scienti"ically unsupported assertion that the
actual issue is a lack o" =sel" estee'> &hich is causing over&eight people to over-eat
the reverse is 'ore likely to be true#. 7o there is o"ten a long list o" suggestions
designed to i'prove sel"-estee'/ plus perhaps so'e 'ore dealing &ith =body i'age>
and =social con"idence> and "inally perhaps so'e &ell-'eaning but ine""ectual
suggestions about eating s'aller portions and avoiding "atty "oods. <r the designer
'ay harbour si'plistic stereotypes/ "or e!a'ple that all over&eight people got this
&ay because they are -binge eaters- or -couch potatoes-. 7o'e over&eight people
'ay &ell be one or both o" these/ but there are 'any other possible causes and
these &ill not then be addressed.
7o even i" suggestions actually reach the subconscious level/ they &ill be ine""ective
as they &ill si'ply be irrelevant. Also/ dealing &ith unrelated issues &eakens the
central purpose o" the suggestions and con"uses the issue. The ans&er is to address
the -sy'pto's- o" any condition rather than try to anticipate e!actly &hat it is that
needs changing at the subconscious level. The subconscious 'ind &ill kno& &hat
actually needs to be done to obtain the suggested outco'e. 2t si'ply doesn>t 'ake
http$%%&&&.'ind&aves.co.uk 1@
Changing Your Mind The Easy Way
the sa'e =connections> that the conscious 'ind does and it is pointless trying to
outguess it.
)n"a'iliarity
The purpose o" using subli'inal suggestion is to =i'plant> by repetition desirable
suggestions at a subconscious level in such a &ay that they displace or over-&rite
the negative and da'aging store o" =sel" i'age> phrases previously ac5uired at
rando'. 8ut consider "or a 'o'ent ho& 'ost o" this negative trash got there in the
"irst place$ 2t &as put there by the people you have kno&n.
All though your childhood/ your parents/ relatives/ teachers and so on &ill have said
things to you that &ere highly negative A o"ten &ith the best o" intentions/ so'eti'es

harder.>/ =2diot.>/ =7top pestering 'e.>/ =Why can>t you be like !6>/ =Fou>ll never be a
success-#. 2t has been esti'ated that such negative ad'onitions outnu'ber positive
loving co''ents by anything up to 100$1 in an average "a'ily.
At the sa'e ti'e you &ill probably have e!perienced 'ore negativity "ro' siblings/
"riends and school'ates =Fou>re useless>/ =;ratt.>/ =3atty>/ =Fou &i'p.>/ =Fou can>t be
in 'y gang>/ =! thinks you>re ugly.>/ =3our-eyes.>/ =Teacher>s pet.>#. Cater on/ at one
ti'e or another you &ill have probably been criticised by people you &ork &ith or "or/
and by your "lat'ates/ spouse/ partner or other adults in your li"e/ and although the
e""ects o" such criticis' or put-do&ns &ill be 'uch less than during "or'ative years/ it
still all adds up.
8ut &hat do all these =inputs> have in co''on/ apart "ro' the "act they are negative
in nature6 7i'ply that they have virtually all been said by people you kno&. <ther
people A strangers - 'ay have called you na'es at one ti'e or another/ perhaps
&hile driving or in a cro&d/ but these occasions are rare and in any case &ho cares
&hat such people say6 The opinions you take notice o" are those o" people you
kno&/ and the closer they are to you/ the 'ore their negative opinions 'atter to you/
both consciously and subconsciously.
7o &hen the subconscious 'ind perceives spoken &ords/ it auto'atically grades its
=i'portance> to you by the "a'iliarity o" the voice/ and the e'otional association you
have &ith the speaker. 2" the voice is unrecognised/ it is assigned a relatively lo&
=i'portance> status. This 'eans that &hen you hear a subli'inally-presented voice
that your subconscious doesn>t recognise A that is co'pletely un"a'iliar A saying
things =at you> "ro' a recording/ it is not surprising that the subconscious 'ind 'ay
"ail to pay 'uch attention to the 'essage. As "ar as the subconscious is concerned
you 'ay as &ell be hearing a 'onologue on the radio.
Many co''ercial recordings are 'ade using pro"essional =voiceover artists> or
si'ply the voice o" the technician &ho 'akes the recording/ and this virtually
guarantees an =un"a'iliarity> proble'. The best =co''ercial> solution/ adopted by
so'e 'anu"acturers is to use voices that are deliberately 'anipulated in the sound
studio to result in a high degree o" neutrality/ &ith =androgenous> pitch/ as accent-"ree
as possible/ and then "urther processed to result in a =&hisper>/ largely stripped o"
identi"ying characteristics. (ot a per"ect solution/ but a prag'atic 'ethod o"
'ini'ising the proble'/ &hich un"ortunately is only adopted by a tiny 'inority o"
'anu"acturers.

The rea ans2er++++
....Personal subliminal recordings

The solution to all o" these proble's is surprisingly si'ple. All you need to do is
'ake your o&n =personal> subli'inal recordings using your o&n voice.
Cets 1ust look at the advantages in the light o" the potential proble's &ith co''ercial
recordings described earlier$
1. Fou have co'plete control over the =co'ponents> that go into the 'i!. This
'eans that you control the e!act phrasing o" the =subli'inal> content or the
&ords to be delivered under hypnosis/ so that it &ill e!actly 'atch the issues
you &ant to address/ in e!actly the &ay you &ant the' to. 2t also 'eans that
you can insert speci"ics that &ould be i'possible in a co''ercial recording/
"or e!a'ple/ =2 &eigh 195 pounds%B0 kilos>/ or =2 no& earn N50/000%O100/000

2. 7i'ilarly/ you have co'plete control over selection o" 'asking and
background tracks and o" relative sound levels/ &hich you can ad1ust "or your
o&n hearing. (ot only that/ but because creating such recordings beco'es
very si'ple once everything is set up/ you can easily 'ake a series o"
recordings &ith di""erent =sound 'asks> or backgrounds or 1ust 'ake a ne&
one each ti'e you begin to "ind a particular recording boring or irritating.

,. And 'ost i'portantly/ you can e'ploy the si'ple =ace up your sleeve> that
(< co''ercial 'anu"acturer can use A your o&n voice. The opportunity to
use your o&n voice in subli'inal and sel" hypnosis recordings is an asset that
should not be underesti'ated. Four o&n voice is the =ulti'ate> in "a'iliarity A
you hear it all the ti'e as you speak. 2t is so "a'iliar that you even create it in
your head &hen you =sel" talk> or think in &ords.

3or this reason/ &hen you use your o&n voice in a subli'inal or hypnotic recording/ it
is al'ost as i" you are thinking to yoursel"/ 1ust as you &ould &hen you 'entally say
