International roast...
One southern Wisconsin homeowner is probably not in love with
the Oscar Mayer wiener. The famed hot dog's Wienermobile
crashed Friday into the deck and garage of a home in Mount
Pleasant, about 35 miles south of Milwaukee. Police say the
driver was trying to turn the vehicle around in the driveway and
thought she was in reverse. But she instead went forward and hit
the home. It sat in the driveway as if it were stuck in the garage
Friday afternoon. No one was home and no one was injured. No
citations were immediately issued. Both the home and vehicle
suffered moderate damage, which Oscar Mayer spokeswoman
Sydney Lindner says insurance will cover. (AP, 2009.07.18)

Imagine 13 people living in a cramped space with a broken toilet.

While it might be tolerable for a few years in college, it's just
plain miserable if you're in outer space. Or so we'd imagine, any-
way. After all, it's pretty tough to find a plumber who will make
a house call out there. According to BBC News, the International
Space Station's main toilet (pictured at right) is broken. En-
deavor's crew is currently using the shuttle's onboard bathroom,
while other astronauts are using a toilet in the Russian part of
the space station. NASA told astronauts to hang an 'out of service'
sign above the toilet, so we hope that will prevent any disasters
involving poo and zero gravity. If all else fails, the crew will re-
sort to using antiquated urine bags from the Apollo era. Seeing
that this is the second time the toilet has been out of commission
since it was installed in 2008, NASA might need to add a plumber
to its payroll. (BBC News, 2009.07.20)

A nursing home in Germany built an exact replica of a bus stop in

front of the facility. The only difference is that buses never stop
there. “It sounds funny,” said Old Lions Chairman Franz-Josef
Goebel, “but it helps. Our members are 84 years-old on average.
Their short-term memory hardly works at all, but the long-term
memory is still active. They know the green and yellow bus sign
and remember that waiting there means they will go home.” The
result is that errant patients now wait for their trip home at the
bus stop, before quickly forgetting why they were there in the
first place. “We will approach them and say that the bus is com-
ing later today and invite them in to the home for a coffee,” said
Mr. Neureither. “Five minutes later they have completely forgot-
ten they wanted to leave.” (Boing Boing, 2008.06.05)

Riddle me this…
A woman was horrified to find a fly in her tea. The waiter took
her cup and went into the kitchen and returned with a fresh cup
of tea. She shouted, "You brought me the same tea!" How did she
know? (if you know email us: iknow@thecoffeepress.ca)

The grind...
This is a news brief about something that happened some time
in the past week here in Fort Nelson or the Northern Rockies Re-
gional Municipality. It was AMAZING!

Another thing that happened is that the town council decided

something that was no-doubt very controversial and will have
people complaining for weeks. I don’t know how Bill & Co. do it;
I’d have given up trying to help FN a long time ago.

Here’s the last thing that would be of interest to some of you.

Maybe it’s regarding the baseball/hockey/dance/swimming
schedule or maybe it’s just something anecdotal.
