Hearing today on
prosecution’s
application for stay
KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution’s ap-
plication for a stay of execution of the High
Court’s order to supply the documents sought
by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be heard
today.
It is scheduled to be heard before High
Court Judge Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd
Diah at 9am.
One of Anwar’s counsel S.N. Nair when
contacted confirmed that the firm (S.N. Nair
& Partners) received a letter on the matter by
the court via a fax, yesterday morning.
On Monday, the prosecution filed a notice
of motion for a stay of execution at the High
Court’s Criminal Division here at 2pm, signed
by Datuk Nordin Hassan, one of the Deputy
Public Prosecutors for Anwar’s sodomy case.
Also filed with the notice was a certificate
of urgency that the case be heard as soon as
possible.
On July 16, Justice Mohamad Zabidin al-
lowed Anwar’s application and ordered the
prosecution to supply the documents con-
cerned within seven days.
The seven-day period expires tomorrow.
However, Justice Mohamad Zabidin dis-
missed the Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser’s
application to obtain the specimen samples
taken from complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari
Azlan after he ruled that the samples had
been sealed by the chemist and the defence
could examine the samples after they had
been tendered in court.
Anwar, 62, was charged with sodomising
his former aide, Mohd Saiful, 24, at a condo-
minium at Bukit Damansara, here on June 26
last year.
