My Philosophy of Education

I believe that the child is the number one priority for an educator. Each child is a unique individual with his/her own specific needs. It is my responsibility and desire as an educator to help a child reach his/her fullest potential and to create a safe, caring, and stimulating environment in which the child can grow and mature intellectually, emotionally, and socially. I intend to create a classroom environment that is safe, inviting, and supportive to assist in this, as I want to do everything I can to aid in a positive and successful learning experience for the child. Both the teacher and student have a purpose and role within education. The purpose of education is to Create combinations of knowledge and skills in children as well as values that will help children blossom into adults and become responsible and productive citizens. The role of the student in education is to Be an active participant in the educational process. Students need to be willing to listen and try and to practice and exercise with the concepts in which they have been taught. Without student cooperation in education there is little chance for progress and success. The role of an educator in education and the community is to Be a resource and instruction provider for the community. They must be a curriculum specialist, classroom supporter, and mentor for students and role model, supporter, and friend for the community. Teachers must be leaders, and as leaders, they can positively influence their school and community, improve student learning, and promote and encourage the same practices among their peers.

I have decided to become a teacher for these reasons I love kids and aspire to make a difference in their lives I enjoy people interaction and an active environment For the daily humor and enjoyment children bring I strive to continue to learn throughout my life My philosophy aligns with perennialism in these ways The word perennial suggest something that lasts for an indefinite long time, recurs again and again, or is self-renewing. I believe in teaching topics, skills, and concepts that will hold their significance for the majority of ones life. I also believe in using reasoning and knowing principles and ideas that have deemed themselves to be of everlasting importance, rather than focusing on facts which are continuously changing. Its important to look at the big picture and the ideas that have lasted over time as they have lasted for a reason. I believe in the personal development of a child rather than the development of an unessential skill. As the great perennialist Robert Maynard Hutchins put it, The object of the educational system, taken as a whole, is not to produce hands for industry or to teach the young how to make a living. It is to produce responsible citizens." There are many factors that are necessary in creating a beneficial and positive educational experience for the student, but both the teacher and student play the key roles in determining the success of education. Both must strive to work together and be willing to work towards common goals, with the educator acting as the resource and instructor, and the student remaining the sole priority in order to assure a quality education.
