Should you be elected, what are three specific areas youd like to change, address, improve or further research, and how specifically would you go about it?: 1) Teaching: I have watched City Council shift from being a legislative body to becoming a mere formality of little meaningful consequence, complying with the Charter, requiring them to exist. Nothing seems to be happening that would gives this Council a sense of meaningful purpose. I want to work with each member of Council to achieve his or her full potential and ultimately, toward Legislative independence as a body and in partnership with the administration. 2) Stronger emphasis on Committees: Its called Checks and Balance. Emergency passage without thorough committee review on major spending has become the norm rather than the exception. These ordinances routinely allow the mayor to go out to bid and spend large sums of money without Council oversight. Committees are the workshops of City Council. Committees are where facts and statistics are researched and validated, where ideas and alternatives are contemplated. Council needs to follow up on bidding as part of our duties and responsibilities. That means authorizing the Mayor to go out for bids, waiting, and then authorizing the Mayor to Contact -- not all in same piece of legislation and not at the same time. Council needs to become more engaged as a partner with the Administration and not just a formality in the process. Ultimately, we are representing the public s interest and serving their needs. 3) Leadership: I will be a Council President who will work one-on-one with each Council member and will work full-time to set an example, persuade, engage, and hold members accountable. This is not about me. It is about the Council members who Chair Committees and those who serve on those Committees. Ultimately, its about the City of North Olmsted. Besides presiding over the regular meetings of Council, my approach will be to step back, observe, guide, and correct. Ultimately, I will be keeping records of activities and reviewing them periodically with all members of Council.

Whether for past accomplishments or future goals, why should voters elect you? The real choice comes down to young and ambitious vs. mature and experienced. My opponent has been on City Council before while running for County Council, then left City Council to work for the County Executive, then left that job to come back to another Council appointment. From there, who knows where her ambitions will lead her. She has never drafted one piece of legislation let alone had it codified. I am retired and committed to the position I am running for. I have drafted legislation and had some codified both in Fairview Park and within the Charter of North Olmsted. I know the process well and can lead by example. I am committed to the position I am running for and have set goals for the next 4 years. I am not promising an instant cure for the things that need fixing or improving in North Olmsted. I am promising that once we begin the process of making City Government more responsible and accountable to the citizens, those needed things will naturally follow.
