Learning Objectives Standard Professional Responsibility To apply the skills learned in the class into my therapeutic relationships and

communications skills both in clinical and in my personal life.

Resources and Strategies Resources: Read Counselling skills for health professionals by Burnard. Strategies: Become increasingly aware of my body language in my interactions with member of my family and colleagues at work. My body language tells a lot about what I am feeling without my even knowing it. Seek out opportunities to apply the skills learnt in this class to practice my communication skills and develop the therapeutic relationship.

Types of Evidence of achievement Through the development of a clearer understanding of open and closed communication and an understanding of self awareness, I have used my communication skills to; Recognize transference and counter-transference in personal conversations. In particular, I have noted this during many of the meetings I attend at work. (7.05) Developing my active listening and communication skills. I feel that I have become more open to the emotions of others. I guess I have developed my empathy skills. Criteria to validate objectives achieved Scale: 5/5 Feelings: I feel I have being very successful in obtaining the goal. The recognition of my own values and behaviors coupled with my selfawareness and communication skills, has allowed me to be able to apply what I have learnt in class into my clinical experiences and personal interactions. Plan of Action: I will continue to strive to utilize my communication skills to help me build my therapeutic relationships as they play such a pivotal role in the duties of the successful psychiatric nurse.
