Maintenance Tips for Inverter Battery

Inverter battery is an indispensable part of the inverter system and responsible for the backup power supply provided. Hence for the proper functioning of the inverter system, maintenance of its battery is of utmost importance.

Need for Inverter Battery Maintenance

Maintenance tips are essential not only for the proper functioning of the inverter system but for safety as well. An inverter battery can be hazardous when not handled properly.

There are 3 main types of dangers that can be encountered with the inverter battery:

Short-circuit of the terminals

Fire or explosion due to the battery gases Acid burns resulting from wet lead-acid batteries

For the protection of the user and safe handling, inverter battery maintenance is very important.

Inverter Battery Maintenance Tips

1. One of the foremost battery maintenance tips is to ensure that the terminals are kept clean and tight. 2. The electrolyte levels must always be kept above the minimum levels. While filling up the electrolyte levels, only distilled water should be used. 3. About 6 times in a year, the inverter battery must be equalized. This involves controlled overcharge by knocking down the deposits on the battery. This will extend the life of the battery. 4. The battery tops can be cleaned with rags dipped in a solution of baking soda in water. But this cleaning solution must not be allowed to enter into the batteries through the vent holes in the caps. 5. Regularly check the battery terminals for any signs of corrosion. It is indicated by a green-colored layer over it.

With proper and timely maintenance of the inverter batter, regular and hassle-free functioning of the inverter system can be ensured. While handling the battery, wear safety goggles and rubber gloves for self-protection.
