Swift Path to Instantaneous Perfect Buddhahood Epithets of


Buddhas that Completely Uproot the Transgressions and
Downfalls
Some Comments For the Benefit of New Practitioners
1. This text is extracted from the cycle of Kasang Zabcho, a terma discovered by
Terton Nyala Pema Duddul (1816-1872) of Lhangdrak, more on his biography can

2. In the benefits for certain Buddha epithet, there are often references to huge
astronomical numbers (which are represented more conveniently by Sanskrit
terms like niyuta etc) referring to infinite expanses of time which may be
challenging to the beliefs of those unaccustomed to Buddhist sutras and texts. It
is the opinion of the translator that these often mind-boggling numbers are for the
sake of trying to conceptualise that which essentially cannot be conceptualised.
For instance, the notion of obscurations and negative karma does not lend itself
easily to estimation of any sort with scientific scales or standardised units of
measurements. Time is also a relative notion that changes with perception. So the
benefits pointed to here are to be taken metaphorically rather than figuratively,
loosely rather than precisely. Basically, there is no need to nitpick like a lawyer.
It is sufficient to believe in the words of the Buddhas that purification will indeed
take place if one recites the epithets with faith and devotion.
3. Apart from the first epithet which is more likely a refuge verse, the translation
does not give the exact meaning of each Buddha epithet, the reason being, it is
highly recommended that one recites the Tibetan transliteration as the original
language is imbued with greater blessings of the vajra speech of the enlightened
beings who composed or translated it into Tibetan. It is also not necessary to
know the specific meaning of the names of the Buddhas just as it is not necessary
to know the meaning of John or Charlotte. The benefits and blessings of
Buddha will still be well received by those who recite sincerely in ignorance.
4. One can concentrate on reciting particular Buddha epithets in greater
repetitions if one feels that it fits ones needs particularly. For instance, in the
purification of particular types of negative misdeeds that one has often committed
