Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation, headquartered in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, USA, is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation and was formed as a result of the 1999 merger of Hamilton Standard and Sundstrand Corporation. Hamilton Sundstrand operations, located around the world, produce high-technology aerospace and industrial products for a variety of markets. Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems, San Diego, California, USA, part of the Air Management and Power Systems business unit of Hamilton Sundstrand, designs, manufactures and supports auxiliary power unit systems, high-performance fans, and other environmental control system products. Power Systems houses over 650 employees in a modern 225,000 square-foot facility in San Diego. Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems provides a wide range of APUs for commercial aircraft from business to regional jets up to 200-passenger airliners. Over 3,360 units are in commercial service with more than 26,000,000 hours of operation experience.

Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems is also the worlds largest supplier of gas turbine APUs for military applications, with such high-volume programs as the Sikorsky H-60 series helicopter (3,000 units), the F-16 (4,000 units), and the KC-135R (900 units). Approximately half of the installed base of the western worlds military aircraft that have APUs or jet fuel starters were equipped by Hamilton Sundstrand. Units are available for ground operation, flight-essential and flight-critical applications. In addition to being the principal supplier of gas turbine auxiliary power units, Hamilton Sundstrand is now the leader in the development of miniature (less than 100 lbf thrust) jet engines. Auxiliary power units are available to both aircraft manufacturers and support equipment packagers. Mobile ground power systems and air start units are available through Rheinmetall Landsystem of Kiel Germany.
