Typetested version For heating systems (see Data Sheet T 8016 EN), DIN/DVGW-tested version for gas (see Data Sheet T 8020 EN) or liquid fuels and liquefied petroleum gas in the liquid phase (see Data Sheet T 8022 EN) DIN version See Data Sheet T 8015 EN Versions with dimensions according to Japanese Industry Standard (JIS) Details on request Principle of operation The process medium flows through the valve in the direction indicated by the arrow. The position of the valve plug determines the cross-sectional area between the seat and plug. Fail-safe positions Depending on how the compression springs are arranged in the actuator (see Data Sheets T 8310-1 EN and T 8310-2 EN for details), the control valve has two different fail-safe positions which become effective upon supply air failure: Actuator stem extends (FA) The actuator springs close the valve when the supply air fails. Actuator stem retracts (FE) The actuator springs open the valve when the supply air fails. Note Figs. 5 to 8 show configuration examples. Refer also to the notes on differential pressures.

Notes concerning the differential pressure tables The differential pressure tables were prepared under the following conditions: The maximum permissible supply pressure is 4 bar (60 psi) for valves sizes to 3 and actuators with an effective area of 700 cm2. Direction of flow: FTO Version with PTFE packing

The leakage rates specified in Table 1 are not exceeded with the maximum differential pressures specified. The specified differential pressure can be limited by the values given in the pressure-temperature diagram. The actuator sizing needs to be checked separately for versions with metal bellows seal and p2 0 bar (0 psi).

Principle of operation The process medium flows through the valve in the direction indicated by the arrow. The valve plug position determines the cross-sectional area of flow. The version with the metal bellows seal (Fig. 4) is equipped with a test connection to allow the monitoring of the stainless steel bellows. A pressure-balanced plug (Fig. 3) can be used when high pressures or differential pressures act on the valve plug and the force produced by the actuator is insufficient. The control valves can be equipped with a St I or St III Flow Divider (Fig. 4, see Data Sheet T 8081 EN for details). Fail-safe positions Depending on how the compression springs are arranged in the actuator (see Data Sheets T 8310 EN and T 8311 EN for details), the control valve offers two different fail-safe positions effective upon air supply failure: "Actuator stem extends" (fail-close): Upon air supply failure, the force of the compression springs causes the valve to close. "Actuator stem retracts" (fail-open): Upon air supply failure, the force of the compression springs causes the valve to open.

Principle of operation The shaft and the plug are arranged eccentrically, thus implementing the double-eccentric design of the Maxifluss rotary plug valve together with the offset fulcrum (Fig. 3). This double-eccentric design ensures that the plug clears the seat immediately without any initial breakaway torque or friction when the plug shaft is turned from closed to open position. The valve opens smoothly, providing a stable control response at small opening angles. The process medium can flow through the Maxifluss rotary plug valve in either direction. The standard direction of flow for Liquids = flow to open FTO direction of flow V Gases and vapors = flow to close FTC direction of flow H The flow coefficient is determined by the opening angle of the plug. The inherent characteristic of the Maxifluss rotary plug valves can be converted into a linear or equal percentage characteristic using positioners and cam discs. Fail-safe position The control valve offers two possible fail-safe positions in combination with the VETEC Type R Diaphragm Actuator in case the supply air fails: Valve CLOSED without supply air; the Maxifluss rotary plug valve is closed when the supply air fails. Valve OPEN without supply air; the Maxifluss rotary plug valve is opened when the supply air fails.

Principle of operation The process medium flows through the micro-flow control valve in the direction indicated by the arrow. The position of the valve plug (3) determines the cross-sectional area of flow between the seat (2) and the plug. The plug stem (6) is connected to the actuator stem (8.1) by the stem connector (7) and sealed with an adjustable packing (4). To comply with stricter environmental emissions requirements, the valve can be equipped with a double-walled metal bellows (10). The anti-rotation device (13) prevents loosening of the screw connection between the valve body (1) and the bonnet (5) or the intermediate piece (9). Fail-safe position Depending on the arrangement of the compression springs in the actuator (8) (see Data Sheet T 8310-1 EN for details), the control valve has two different fail-safe positions effective upon air supply failure: Actuator stem extends (FA) The valve is closed upon air supply failure. Actuator stem retracts (FE) The valve is opened upon air supply failure.

Principle of operation (Figs. 3 and 4) Depending on the valve version, the three-way valve can be used for either mixing or flow-diverting service. In mixing valves, the process media to be mixed enter at valve ports A and B. The combined stream flows off at port AB (see Fig. 3). The flow rate from port A or B to port AB depends on the cross-sectional area of flow between the seats and the valve plugs. In flow-diverting valves, in contrast, the process medium enters at port AB and the partial streams flow off at ports A and B (see Fig. 4). Note: The design of the mixing and flow-diverting valves in sizes DN 15 to 25 ( to 1) is identical. Fail-safe position Depending on the arrangement of the compression springs in the actuator (see Data Sheet T 8310-1 EN or T 8310-2 EN for details), the valve has two fail-safe positions which become effective upon supply air failure: Actuator stem extends (FA) Whenever the air supply fails, either port B (mixing valve) or port A (flow-diverting valve) is closed. Actuator stem retracts (FE) Whenever the air supply fails, either port A (mixing valve) or port B (flow-diverting valve) is closed.

AB

Notes on the differential pressures in Tables 3a to 4b Values specified in the gray-shaded columns correspond to the standard bench range Differential pressures specified in the white columns apply to maximum pretensioned springs Differential pressures in parentheses refer to the values in parentheses in the bench range row The tables apply to both fail-safe positions The springs in actuators with fail-safe action "Actuator stem retracts" cannot be pretensioned.

Flow Dividers for Control Valves St I St III

Application These valve components serve to reduce noise emission. They are designed for installation in globe and angle valves used to control vapors or gases.

The noise emission of control valves controlling gases or vapors as well as the connected pipeline is determined by the free jet leaving the restriction and by the downstream turbulent mixing zone. A particularly effective and low-cost solution to reduce noise is achieved by using flow dividers which shorten the free jet of gas or vapor and accelerate the exchange of energy in the mixing zone.

13 3 2

Special features Effective, reliable and cost-effective components for noise reduction Noticeable deviation from the characteristic only in the travel range beyond 80% The valves Kvs value is reduced to the KvsI and KvsIII values specified in the Data Sheets Installation in Types 3241, 3251 and 3254 Globe Valves, Type 3256 Angle Valves as well as globe valves as part of self-operated regulators In Series 280 Steam-converting Valves, the St III Flow Divider is also used to split up and vaporize cooling water (see Information Sheet T 8250 EN).

Fig. 1 St I Flow Divider, installed in Type 3241 Valve

Versions St I Flow Divider (Figs. 1 and 4) made of perforated sheet steel with perforation diameters of 2.5 mm; suitable for gases and vapors. St III Flow Divider (Fig. 2) made of stainless wire mesh; suitable for gases and vapors containing small-sized suspended matter. It additionally has an internal and external perforated sheet steel (Fig. 3) and is designed for Series 250 and 280 Valves.

Principle of operation (Fig. 4) After having passed the cross-sectional area of the restriction located between the valve seat (2) and the plug (3), the process medium reaches its maximum velocity. Before a noisy turbulent mixing zone can be created, the medium hits the inner wall of the flow divider (13) which splits up the jet into numerous smaller jets, thus ensuring low-noise energy transfer to the surrounding medium.

Calculation of noise emission Gases and vapors The noise emitted by gases in single- and multi-stage control valves is determined according to DIN EN 60 534, Part 8-3. This calculation method, however, does not apply to control valves containing noise-reducing elements, such as St I and St III Flow Dividers. In this case, calculation is performed according to VDMA 24 422, Edition 89. The calculation is based on the jet power reached during expansion. An acoustical conversion ratio G is used to determine the noise emission. Diagram 1 illustrates the difference between the conversion ratios depending on the differential pressure ratio. This difference immediately shows the level difference of the internal sound power. The difference between the sound pressure levels to be expected at one meter distance from the pipe is also sufficiently accurate. Assuming a differential pressure ratio of x = 0.5, the difference in sound pressure level amounts to 10 dB between a valve without a flow divider and a valve with a St I Flow Divider and 20 dB with a St III Flow Divider.

Principle of operation The signal pressure pst generates a force F = pst A on the diaphragm area A (2). This force is balanced by the actuator springs (4). Taking into account the rated travel, the number of springs and their compression determine the bench range. The travel H is proportional to the signal pressure pst. The operating direction of the actuator stem (7) depends on the arrangement of the springs and the signal pressure connection (1). The stem connector (8) connects the actuator stem (7) with the plug stem (10) of the valve. The adjustable mechanical travel stop (Fig. 12) is suitable for actuators made of sheet steel with effective diaphragm areas of 240, 350, or 700 cm. Using the limit stop, the actuator travel can be limited by up to 50 % in both directions (actuator stem extends or retracts) and permanently adjusted. A special version with one-sided travel stop for actuators with an effective diaphragm area of 120 cm is available. Actuators are available with the following fail-safe actions: Actuator stem extends (FA) The springs cause the actuator stem to move to the lower end position (sectional drawings, right) when the diaphragm is relieved of pressure or when the supply air fails. Actuator stem retracts (FE) The springs cause the actuator stem to retract (sectional drawings, left) when the diaphragm is relieved of pressure or when the supply air fails.

Principle of operation The signal pressure pst generates a force F = pst A on the diaphragm area A (2). This force is balanced by the actuator springs (4). Taking into account the rated travel, the number of springs and their compression determine the bench range. The travel H is proportional to the signal pressure pst. The operating direction of the actuator stem (7) depends on the arrangement of the springs. The stem connector (8) connects the actuator stem (7) with the plug stem (10) of the valve. Fig. 12 shows the side-mounted Type 3273 Hand-operated Actuator for actuators with effective diaphragm areas of 1400 and 2800 cm and a maximum travel of up to 80 mm. The handwheel (23) is fixed to the worm-geared shaft (20) and moves the actuator stem over the worm-geared wheel (21) and the threaded bushing (22). A side-mounted handwheel as illustrated in Fig. 14 is available for valves with 120 mm travel. The adjustable mechanical travel stop (Fig. 7) is suitable for actuator version 1400-60 as well as 2800 cm and tandem actuators. The actuator travel can be limited by up to 50 % in both directions (actuator stem extends or retracts) and permanently adjusted. The tandem actuator (Fig. 6) contains two coupled diaphragms; they produce a positioning force that is twice as high as the force of a single-acting actuator. Series 3730 Electropneumatic Positioner Type 3730-2 and Type 3730-3 with HART communication
Application Single-acting or double-acting positioner for attachment to pneumatic control valves. Self-calibrating, automatic adaptation to valve and actuator. Reference variable 4 to 20 mA Travels 3.6 to 200 mm Opening angles 24 to 100

The positioner ensures a predetermined assignment of the valve stem position (controlled variable x) to the electric input signal (reference variable w). It compares the control signal received from a controller to the travel or opening angle of the control valve and issues a corresponding output signal pressure (output variable y). Special features Simple attachment to common linear and rotary actuators with SAMSON direct attachment interface (Fig. 1), NAMUR rib (Fig. 2) or control valves with rod-type yokes acc. to IEC 60534-6-1 or rotary actuators acc. to VDI/VDE 3845 (Fig. 3) Any desired mounting position Simple one-knob, menu-driven operation LCD easy to read in any mounting position due to selectable reading direction Configurable with a PC over the SSP interface using the TROVIS-VIEW software Variable, automatic start-up with four different initialization modes Preset parameters only values deviating from the standard need to be adjusted Calibrated travel sensor without gears susceptible to wear "Sub" initialization mode (substitution) allows the positioner to be started up in case of emergency whilst the plant is running without the valve moving through the whole travel range All parameters saved in EEPROM (protection against power failure) Two-wire system with a small electrical load between 300 and 410 depending on the version (see Table 1) Adjustable output pressure limitation Tight-closing function can be activated Continuous monitoring of zero point Integrated temperature sensor and operating hours counter Two standard configurable position alarms Self-diagnostics; alarms issued over fault alarm contact or optional analog position transmitter Integrated EXPERT (optionally EXPERT+) diagnostics (see T 8388 EN) Certified according to IEC 61508/SIL

Type 3730-3 EXPERT+ Positioner with HART communication, extended diagnostic functions Type 3730-3 ESD Positioner with partial stroke test function for early detection of any malfunctions of ESD valves in safety-related systems, communication with HART protocol, see Data Sheet T 8388-1 EN Type 3731 Ex d Positioner Communication with HART protocol See Data Sheet T 8387-3 EN Additional options Inductive limit switch with proximity switch Analog position transmitter with two-wire transmitter Forced venting function with solenoid valve External position sensor (Fig. 4) Extended EXPERT+ diagnostics (see T 8388 EN) Stainless steel housing Principle of operation The electropneumatic positioner is attached to pneumatic control valves. It is used to assign the valve stem position (controlled variable x) to the input signal (reference variable w). The input signal received from a control system is compared to the travel or opening angle of the control valve and an output signal pressure (output variable y) is produced. The positioner consists of an electric travel sensor system (2), an analog i/p converter with a downstream booster and the electronics unit with microcontroller (5). When a deviation occurs, the actuator is pressurized or vented. If required, the changes in the signal pressure can be slowed

down by a volume restriction. The signal pressure to the actuator can be limited by software to 1.4, 2.4 or 3.7 bar. A constant air stream to the atmosphere is created by the flow regulator (9) with a fixed set point. The air stream is used to purge the inside of the case as well as to optimize the air capacity booster. The i/p module (6) is supplied with a constant upstream pressure by the pressure regulator (8) to make it independent of the supply air pressure. Operation The positioner is operated with a user-friendly rotary pushbutton. The parameters are selected by turning the knob, pushing it activates the required settings. In the menu, all parameters are listed in one level, meaning there is no need to search through submenus. All parameters can be checked and changed on site. All values are displayed on the LCD. The reading direction of the LCD can be rotated by 180 at the push of a button. The closing direction of the control valve is indicated to the positioner by the DIP switch "Air to open/Air to close". It assigns the CLOSED position of the control valve to the 0 % reading. The INIT key activates initialization, which is started according to (pre)set parameters (autotune). After initialization has been completed, the positioner immediately starts control operation. To configure the positioner with SAMSONs TROVIS-VIEW configuration software, the positioner is equipped with an additional digital interface to be connected to the RS-232 interface of a PC. Additionally, all parameters of the Type 3730-3 Positioner can be accessed using HART communication.

Positioner attachment The Type 3730 Electropneumatic Positioner can be attached directly to the Type 3277 Actuator over a connection block. In actuators with fail-safe action Actuator stem extends and Type 3277-5 Actuator (120 cm), the signal pressure is routed over an internal bore in the actuator yoke to the actuator. In actuators with fail-safe action Actuator stem retracts and in actuators with effective diaphragm areas of 240 cm or larger, the signal pressure is routed to the actuator over ready-made

external piping. Using the appropriate bracket, the positioner can also be attached according to IEC 60534-6-1 (NAMUR recommendation). The positioner can be mounted on any side of the control valve. A pair of universal brackets is used for the attachment to Type 3278 Rotary Actuators or other rotary actuators according to VDI/VDE 3845. The rotary motion of the actuator is transferred to the positioner over a coupling wheel.

EXPERT

1.1 Initialization diagnostics EXPERT monitors the control valve during automatic initialization to ensure trouble-free start-up. In addition, the opening and closing times are determined. The diagnostic function also indicates faults concerning attachment and the entire valve travel range as well as hardware and data memory defects and the correct initialization time.

Display of the current temperature as well as saving of the maximum and minimum temperatures, including alarm function when a limit is exceeded Total valve travel, including customizable limit 1.2.3 Direct detection of fault sources The alarms and status alarms generated by EXPERT enable quick fault detection in case an error occurred. The last 30 alarms are logged in a FIFO (first in, first out) memory together with the operating hour they were generated in. Possible fault categories are: Operating errors, e.g.: Control loop error (excessive error, e.g. blocked actuator, insufficient supply pressure etc.) Zero point shift Hardware and data memory faults are also indicated.

1.2

Online monitoring

1.2.1 Display of the current process variables EXPERT provides the process variables collected by the positioner (e.g. the reference variable w, controlled variable x, error e and manipulated variable y) and analyzes the diagnostic data. 1.2.2 Important operating parameters (Fig. 4) EXPERT provides an overview of the valve status as well as the following operating parameters, which enable the operator to analyze the current valve condition and perform predictive maintenance: Operating hours counter, distinction between overall operating time and operating time in active control (since the first start-up and the last initialization routine) Number of zero calibrations performed Number of initializations performed

EXPERT+

2.1 Process monitoring By permanently recording raw diagnostic data (w, x, y and e) in the positioner, the user can gather information about how the control valve behaves under process conditions. Signal logging enables an analysis of the current measuring scope as well as of the positioners entire service life. The following statements can be made: Valve position range OK Valve mainly operates in the upper or the lower end position As a result, recommendations for predictive maintenance can be given. In addition, immediately required action is indicated. 2.1.1 Data logger The variables reference variable w, valve position x, setpoint deviation e, drive signal y and the operating hours counter are recorded and saved in a FIFO memory. The interval between the individual measuring points can be customized. Apart from permanent sampling, the data can also be collected online while the process is running, provided a certain trigger condition is met. The trigger condition can be defined by the user as certain thresholds (valve travel (setpoint) or solenoid valve condition/forced venting). Additionally, a pretrigger time is available which allows data to be displayed also before the trigger conditions are met. The memory size can be selected as required.

2.1.2 Valve end positions This test serves to detect wear or dirt on the valve trim and is run automatically while the process is running. The valve position is recorded when the lower end position is reached and any changes logged together with the drive signal y and a time stamp. The first measured value is used as a reference. Further measured values showing a greater deviation from the last recorded value are logged. 2.1.3 Cycle counter The dynamic stress that the valve packing and possibly a metal bellows are exposed to can be analyzed by counting cycle frequency and assigning the travel performed in the cycle to a determined valve travel class. The results are displayed as a long-term histogram and a short-term histogram. Based on the diagnostic data, a dynamic stress factor [%] with an alarm limit is generated. 2.1.4 Histograms (Fig. 5) The variables valve position x and setpoint deviation e are sampled at determined intervals. They are classified and, similar to the cycle counter, displayed as long-term and short-term histograms. The scan rate of the short-term histograms for x and e can be adjusted. Additionally, the number of measurement values, the observation period, the average value as well as emin and emax are displayed.

Fig. 5 Valve travel histogram

T 8388 EN

2.2 Internal drive signal y versus valve position x 2.2.1 y-x signature (Fig. 6) While the process is running, the internal drive signal y is automatically recorded, averaged and assigned to a valve travel class once the valve has reached a steady state. The test function is also available in the manual mode. During which, the valve is moved to certain predefined travel positions x over the travel range and the associated y signal is recorded when the valve reaches a steady state. The reference graph required for this analysis is automatically plotted during initialization. Statements can be made on the spring force, the pneumatic system, the air supply and the mechanical attachment. Corresponding alarms are generated. 2.2.2 Hysteresis test This test serves to detect friction changes (hysteresis). It is started automatically while the process is running as soon as a configurable time between tests has elapsed and the valve has reached a steady state. The results are saved, averaged and analyzed according to valve position classes. For this test, a minimal change of the valve opening over a certain period of time is preset with a determined tolerance band. The test is automatically canceled when this tolerance is exceeded or the reference variable changes and the positioner returns to standard control operation. The analysis is based on y.

The test can also be started in the manual mode. In this case, the test is performed at certain valve travel positions x within the travel range. The reference graph required for this analysis is automatically plotted during initialization. 2.3 Tests for targeted early fault detection 2.3.1 Static characteristic (checking the static control response) The static control response of the control valve is checked by varying the reference variable in steps of, for example, 0.1 %. The response of the controlled variable is recorded after a customized delay has elapsed (travel position when the valve has reached a steady state). The control loop is analyzed with the help of the minimum, mean and maximum dead band of the control valve. In manual mode, the entire valve travel range is recorded. 2.3.2 Step response (checking the dynamic control response, Fig. 7) The dynamic control response of the control valve is checked by changing the reference variable in steps of defined height in both travel directions (step response). The course of the controlled variable x, reference variable w, drive signal y and setpoint deviation e is recorded at a determined scan rate until the valve has reached a steady state again. The dead time, T63, T98, overshooting as well as rise time and settling time are indicated separately for increasing and decreasing characteristic. This test can be carried out in manual mode over the entire valve travel range.

Fig. 6 y-x signature (drive signal) as indicated in TROVIS-VIEW

T 8388 EN

2.4 Plain text diagnostics (Fig. 8) EXPERT+ automatically generates other additional status alarms from the collected diagnostic data, e.g.: Pneumatic leakage Friction changed As with EXPERT, the status alarms are logged with the operating hour they were generated in.

3 Visualization and parameterization of EXPERT and EXPERT+ diagnostics

The TROVIS-VIEW software or the DTM tool generate graphs from the data, test results and status alarms collected by the diagnostics firmware in the positioner. In addition, the diagnostics data can also be made accessible to other engineering tools using the DD (Device Description) or eDD (enhanced DD), which enables the data to be displayed in graph form, e.g. using Siemens PDM. How the data are displayed depends on the applied tool. 3.1 Classification and marking of status alarms Based on NAMUR recommendation NE 107, the alarms (events) generated by EXPERT and EXPERT+ are assigned a status (classified). The following states can be assigned to an alarm (event):
Status alarm (event) Inactive Active Classified as No message Active Classified as Maintenance required/Maintenance demanded Active Classified as Function check Active Classified as Maintenance alarm Engineering tool TROVIS-VIEW/DTM

Fig. 7 Testing the dynamic control response, step response

T 8388 EN

The classification can be assigned by the user. The classified status alarms (events) are summarized in a condensed state.
Condensed status Maintenance alarm Maintenance required Maintenance demanded Function check No message Text Engineering tool TROVIS-VIEW/DTM Positioner display

3.2

The condensed status is indicated on the positioner display and can be read using the communication features. In addition, the condensed state can be issued to the optional fault alarm contact*. Type 3730-4: The status classification is consistent with the Profibus Profile 3.01 with condensed status and diagnostic message extension. The process-related fault status is classified. Type 373x-5: The condensed state is listed in the Resource Block and can also be issued to the discrete output of either the Function Block DI1 or DI2. In addition to the condensed state, a block error for the Resource Block and AO Transducer Block can be formed from the classified alarms (events). In this case, the following assigned states are possible: No message Maintenance soon Maintenance now
* Fault alarm contact in Types 3730-2 and 3730-3, optional in Type 3731-3

Diagrams in TROVIS-VIEW, DTM, eDD (e.g. Siemens PDM) The software with trend viewing function allows the variables recorded by the data logger (w, x, y, e) to be plotted versus the time. Similarly, the raw data and data collected in the various tests are plotted in graphs: Current process variables y-x signature Hysteresis test Static characteristic Step response Valve end position trending The long-term and short-term histograms described in section 2.1.4 are displayed as bar graphs. A difference is made between long-term and short-term in the y-x signature and the histograms. The plotted graphs visualize changes in control behavior and support predictive maintenance.

Inductive Limit Switch for Pneumatic Control Valves Type 3768

Application Limit switch with two incorporated inductive switches and optionally one 3/2-way solenoid valve for attachment to pneumatic control valves For rated travels from 7.5 to 120 mm

The limit switch is equipped with two inductive proximity switches which issue a signal when an adjustable limit is exceeded in either direction. Optionally, the limit switch is also available with an integral 3/2-way solenoid valve which registers a binary signal issued by a control device and converts it into a binary signal pressure. When the solenoid valve is in de-energized state, the actuator moves the valve to the fail-safe position. All limit switches can be overridden and can be optionally used as normally-closed or normally-opened contacts Versions for use in hazardous areas in type of protection "Intrinsic safety" EEx ia II C T6 are available (refer to the summary of explosion protection certificates) Direct attachment to Type 3277 Pneumatic Actuator Attachment to actuators according to IEC 60534 and NAMUR recommendations Attachment to rotary actuators with an interface according to VDI/VDE 3845

Principle of operation (Figs. 3 and 4) When the limit switch is attached to the control valve, the valve travel is transmitted via the pin (1.1) to the lever (1) of the actuator. Any change in travel is converted into a rotary motion of the shaft (2). The shaft (2) is fitted with two adjustable metal tags (4) which operate the associated proximity switches (5). For operation of these inductive limit switches, appropriate transistor relays must be connected in the output circuit. The proximity switch assumes high impedance when the metal tag (4) is within the inductive field, whereas the sensor assumes low impedance when the metal tag is outside the field. When the incorporated solenoid valve is energized, a supply air pressure is applied to the actuator. The speed of air supply is adjustable at a restriction. When the solenoid valve is de-energized, the actuator is vented and the control valve moves to its fail-safe position.

When selecting an intrinsically safe power supply, it is important to observe the maximum permissible values acc. to the EC-Type-Examination Certificate PTB 04 ATEX 2010 U0 28 V, L0 110 mA, P0 1,5 W The effective internal capacities Ci; and inductivities Li of the solenoid are negligibly low.

Function of solenoid drive

To switch the direct operated valve, a certain energy is required. This energy is stored in a condenser. The charging voltage is 22 V. The higher the supply voltage, the shorter the charging time. As soon as the charging voltage has been reached, the valve switches. The small current now flowing through the coil is sufficient to hold the valve in the open position. At least 40 mA are required for this.

These products are intended for use in industrial compressed air systems only. Do not use these products where pressures and temperatures can exceed those listed under Technical Data. Before using these products with fluids other than those specified, for non-industrial applications, life-support systems, or other applications not within published specifications, consult Norgren. Through misuse, age, or malfunction, components used in fluid power systems can fail in various modes. The system designer is warned to consider the failure modes of all component parts used in fluid power systems and to provide adequate safeguards to prevent personal injury or damage to equipment in the event of such failure. System designers must provide a warning to end users in the system instructional manual if protection against a failure mode cannot be adequately provided. System designers and end users are cautioned to review specific warnings found in instruction sheets packed and shipped with these products. Water vapor will pass through these units and will condense into liquid if air temperature drops in the downstream system. Install an air dryer if water condensation could have a detrimental effect on the application.

This unit is used when a pneumatic signal which has the right pressure does not have the required flow to activate one or more pieces of equipment. The Booster Relay supplies an output pressure identical to the signal pressure but with a much larger flow capacity. Simultaneous pressure control of several units from a small signal flow is possible. When piping between signal instrumentation and operational area is long, pressure loss in signal piping is minimised by minimising signal flow demand. Can be used with electropneumatic regulator to give high flow E/P pressure control. Can be used where pressure control of lubricated air is required but signal control equipment must have nonlubricated instrument quality air. Can be fitted with positioners to increase actuator speed.
