Explosion protection 7.1 Explosion protection, EN 50 020 EEx-i 7.2 Explosion protection, ATEX, EEx-i 7.3 Explosion protection, ATEX, EEx-d 1. Safety instructions It is strictly necessary to observe the corresponding national safety regulations (ex: VDE 0100) when installing, starting and operating these instruments. Please ensure the right selection of instruments/ thermowell with regard to the maximum pressure (ie. Table of contact ratings in DIN 43 772). Serious injuries and/or damages may occur should the appropriate regulations not be observed. Only qualified persons are authorized to work with these instruments. The instructions regarding the installation and operation in potentially explosive areas according to section 7 are to be observed. 2. Installation With regard to the convection and heat radiation one must neither remain under nor exceed the permissible working temperature (ambient, process medium) when mounting the thermometers. Thermometers may only be removed if the relevant part of the plant is free of pressure! The electrical connection must be terminated according to the instrument data sheets which show the appropiate sensor connections / terminals. 3. Special measures for electrical connection Damaged cables, wires and connection points must be avoided. Fine-stranded conductor ends must be covered with end splices. The inner active capacitance and inductance must be observed. 4. Storage Measuring instruments are to be protected from humidity and dust. 5. Maintenance / Repairs: The instruments require no maintenance or servicing. The manufacturer exclusively is authorized to do any repairs. Traces of process medium on removed thermometers may endanger human beings, the environment and facilities. Sufficient precautionary measures must take action.

7. Explosion protection: The regulations according to directive 94/9/EG (ATEX) must be valid. In addition the instructions of the respective countries regarding the use of explosive goods must be valid (ex: EN 60079-10 and EN 60079-14). A) The operator of a plant is responsable for the zone-classification not the manufacturer or supplier of the equipment. B) Damaged thermometers must not be used. The procedure of repairs of electric equipment has been stipulated according to 9 ElexV. According to ElexV repairs must be executed by authorized persons only. Repairs must be done with original spare parts of the origin manufacturer. Else the requirements of the approval are not fulfilled. C) If a part of an electrical equipment which is necessary for the explosion protection has been repaired, the electrical equipment must not operate again after a qualified person has stateded the correspondance of the important features according to the requirements of explosion protection. Furthermore the official expert must write up a certificate therefor and mark the equipment with a control mark. D) Item C) is not valid if the equipment was repaired by the manufacturer and has passed the manufacturers routine test. E) When using a transmitter please observe the following: - The contents of this instruction as well as the instructions of the transmitter. - The appropriate regulations of the construction and operation of electric installations. - The regulations and directives of the explosive protection. - Transmitters must have their own approval. F) Detailed information regarding the origin delivery are necessary in case of replacement orders: - Explosion protection method (eg. EEx-d, EEx-i) - Test certificate number - Order number - Serial number - Order item G) Explosion protected thermometer only fulfill the safety requirements as a modular unit, as stipulated in the certificate. Stand alone measuring inserts or connection heads do not fulfill the requirements for explosion protection. The interconnection of any intrinsic safe components does not guarantee a intrinsic safe circuit. H) If WIKA delivers thermometers without thermowell for use in hazardous zones, the operator of a plant is responsible for the use of the thermometer only in Ex-zones respective to the certificate of the thermometer. I) Mounting in zone 20 / 21 / 22 (dust): The requirements of DIN EN 50 281-1-2 and DIN EN 60 529 must be observed. The electric circuit must be of type Ex ia. The surface temperature of the equipment must not exceed the ignition temperature of dispersed dust or dust lying on the surface of the equipment.

Pressure and Temperature Measurement Date: 5th November 2004 Without dust deposit: The surface temperature must not exceed 2/3 of the ignition temperature of the respective dust/ air mixture (DIN VDE 0165 chapter 3.2). With dust deposit: On surfaces where an effective prevention of a deposit of possibly smouldering dust it is not possible, the surface temperature must not exceed a temperature which is 75 K lower than the ignition temperature of the respective dust. If the deposit thickness is greater than 5 mm another reduction of the temperature is necessary. J) The operator of a plant must ensure that the relevant thermometer can be identified in all safetyrelevant characteristics. K) Conductive shieldings must be connected at one side only. This must take place outside of the Exarea. A galvanic isolation between intrinsic-save and not-intrinsic-save circuit is necessary. The housing must be grounded against electromagnetic fields and electrostatic loads. Metalic vessels: It is essential to connect the shielding with the grounding of the vessel. Nonmetalic vessels: All conductive thermometer parts reaching into hazardous areas must have an potential equalization. L) Using thermometer with open cable endings (eg. TR/TC101, TR/TC730) the operator of a plant must ensure that the installation is conducted appropiate, respecting all relevant regulations. Qualified connectors must be used if the cables of the thermometer end inside a hazardous area. Open cable endings have to be connected outside of the hazardous area. Connecting the cables in an explosive dust environment must be realised inside of housings according to directive 94/9/EC and EN 50 281-1-1 with a ingress protetion grade of IP 65 min. The min. air- and creepage-distance is 2 mm. 7.1 Explosion protection according to EN 50 020 EEx-i A) Operating in zone 2 (category 3): Equipment for use in hazardous areas of zone 2 do not need a special labeling (EN 50 020 paragraph 5.4) B) Measuring point grounded: If a thermometer does not withstand the isolation-voltage (500 VDC) as required in EN 50 020, the intrinsic safe circuit is deemed to be grounded (DIN EN 60 079-14 paragraph 12.2.4) This also applies to thermocouples with measuring points welded with the bottom. *1 If multiple RTD sensors are used (or several single RTD sensors) and operating at the same time, the summary of the single power rates must not exeed the value of the max. permissible power acc. to the classification table. *2 The minimal neck length is defined as the distance between the lower edge of the connection head to the heat emitting surface. *3 When using a transmitter or a loop powered display, the permissible ambient-temperature has to be taken from the corresponding approval. The respective lowest temperature value of the used equipment must be used. B) The thermometer is not marked with the max. permissible medium temperature. For the interrelationship of temperature class, the permissible ambient temperature, the minimal neck lenth and the maximal temperature at the thermowell / measuring insert see classification table. Mounting in zone 0 / 20 (category 1): The electrical circuit must be of type EEx ia. The process connections must have a certain effectual tightness, according to EN 50 284 paragraph 4.5. The requirements of EN 50 284 must be observed. The process pressure and the temperature of the medium must range between 0.8 bar to 1.1 bar and -20 C to +60 C. If the thermometer operates outside of the range of this atmospheric conditions, the approval of the category 1 apparatus has to regard as guideline. Additional tests for the special application conditions are recommended. Mounting at zone 0 / 20 (category 1/2): The electrical circuit must be of type EEx ib. The process connections must have a certain effectual tightness, according to EN 50 284 paragraph 4.5. The requirements of EN 50 284 must be observed.
