ALCATEL-LUCENT 7750 SERVICE ROUTER AND ALCATEL-LUCENT 7450 ETHERNET SERVICE SWITCH

VERSATILE SERVICES MODULE-XP

The Alcatel-Lucent Versatile Services Module-XP (VSM-XP) on the industry-leading Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router (SR) and Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) platforms enables new service offerings by internally connecting services with centralized quality of service (QoS) enforcement.

The Alcatel-Lucent VSM-XP provides highperformance, interservice connectivity within a single chassis with the advanced QoS and accounting features that have made the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR and 7450 ESS industry-leading platforms. The VSM-XP can be used to internally interconnect pairs of services, thus creating new service offerings. For example, by interconnecting a Layer 2 service and a Layer 3 service, a routed Layer 2 service is created. Another example of a new application is interconnecting the upper and lower rings for a wholesale service provider with a G.8032 ring topology network in a single node. By utilizing the VSM-XP, traffic from each ring direction is aggregated, allowing each retail customer to have individual QoS policy applied and full accounting detail. Alcatel-Lucent VSM-XPs are fully supported by the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM), and support in-service insertion and removal. Each Alcatel-Lucent VSM-XP occupies half a slot in an Input/ Output Module (IOM) and can interconnect up to 25 Gb/s (half-duplex) of services when installed in an IOM3-XP and 10 Gb/s (half duplex) when installed in an IOM2 or IOM1. Unidirectional traffic can peak to

the half duplex capacity through a VSM-XP with on-board logic, ensuring fair access to available bandwidth for bidirectional traffic patterns. Multiple VSM-XP modules can be installed in a chassis and logically grouped, increasing the overall inter connect capacity through load sharing across VSM-XPs in the group.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Allows for the creation of new services by internally interconnecting services High-performance service interconnect with up to 25 Gb/s (half duplex) throughput per VSM-XP Support for grouping multiple VSM-XP modules to redundantly scale interconnect bandwidth to more than 200 Gb/s per group Advanced Hierarchical QoS (H-QoS) for interconnected services or aggregated interconnected services, including QoS remapping, shaping and policing Comprehensive ingress and egress accounting for each interconnected service
