Degree School Adviser : : : Bachelor of Science in Nursing Olivarez College Mr. Macapagal ABSTRACT The study sought to contribute on the disease prevention and to lessen the number of TB cases in Bacoor City; and to determine the effectiveness of face to face education in improving the adherence on the management and preventive behavior on Tuberculosis and also to explore the preventive behavior within the household and the Cullion Foundation that the health center provides to the community residence. The study was made in the school year 2013-2014 with works which began in December 2012. The actual interviews were conducted during the month of May 2013. Specifically, the study answered the following sub-problems: 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: a. Age b. Gender

v c. Educational attainment d. Type of work e. Proximity of house to the nearest health clinic 2. What is the awareness of the family towards tuberculosis in terms of: a. Its communicability b. Its modes of transmission c. Its symptoms d. Its prevention e. Its cure 3. What are the preventive behaviors among family members with tuberculosis?

ix AWARENESS ON THE EXISTENSE AND COMMUNICABILITY OF TUBERCULOSIS: 5 TB is a communicable disease TB is a preventable disease with the use of proper measures. TB is a disease that chooses no age to infect. A person who had a long interaction with TB has a possibility of having TB. The most hazardous period for development of clinical disease is the first 6-12 months after infection AWARENESS ON THE TRANSMISSION OF THE DISEASE: 5 Close contact with someone who has active TB Residence in overcrowded, substandard housing or institutions (e.g long term care patients, psychiatric patients, prison inmates) Immunocompromised (e.g elderly, cancer, corticosteroid therapy and HIV) Patients with pre-existing medical conditions including diabetes, chronic renal failure, silicosis, and malnourishment Immigrants from countries with a high incidence of TB Occupation (e.g health care workers) Coughing is the most efficient way of transmitting the disease. 4 3 2 1 4 3 2 1
