HRD Ministry Constitutes Council of National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research
The Ministry of Human Resource & Development has taken the initiative to constitute a Council of
National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) to facilitate better coordination
and synergy between the four NITTTRs (founded in 1964) located at Chandigarh, Bhopal, Calcutta and
Chennai. The Council shall be chaired by the Minister of Human Resource Development (ex-officio) with
Chairman and Directors of the four NITTTRs and other academicians as members.
Former national TT champion Uttam Chandarana passes away
Uttam Chandarana, a doyen of Indian table tennis, passed away here on 2nd October 2013. He was 94.
Chandarana won the National titles in 1943 in Hyderabad, 1948 (Colombo), 1949 (Hyderabad) and 1954
(Baroda).
India will be worlds most populous nation by 2050
India will overtake China as the world's most populous country by 2050, according to a new French
study which predicts the global population to surge to 9.7 billion people by the middle of the century.
The report by the French Institute of Demographic Studies, predicts India will take the top spot with a
population of 1.6 billion to leave behind current world leader in population, China , at the second place
with 1.3 billion, Third US (316.2m); Fourth Indonesia (248.5m) and Fifth Brazil (195.5m).
Liberal visa regime can help India earn $36 billion by 2020
A new report says that facilitating visas for tourists could create as many as 2.6 million additional jobs in
the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies by 2016. While, Indian studies show that 30
visas create a job and experts say that by 2020 the country could receive 20 million international tourists
earning foreign exchange to the tune of $36 billion if visa regime is liberalized.

was also declared the best player of the tournament.

Global Age Watch Index (GAWI), developed with the UN fund for population and development which
was released on International Day of Older Persons, ranks India a poor 73 out of the 91 countries
sampled. Whereas, Sweden as the best country to grow old followed by Norway, Germany, Netherlands
and Canada while the US languishes at 8th place.
Asian Development Bank lowers India's growth projection for 2013-14 to 4.7%
Asian Development Bank (ADB) has lowered India's growth projection for 2013-14 to 4.7 percent from 6
percent, it said in its flagship Asian Development Outlook 2013. While, RBI has lowered the growth
projection for 2013-14 to 5.5 % from its earlier estimate of 5.7 %.
Australian Open will hike total prize money 10 % in 2014 to $31 million
Australian Open will increase its prize money by $3 million next year to bring overall player
compensation to $31 million. Wimbledon now offers about $36.5 million, while the U.S. Open increased
its purse to $34.3 million and the French Open went up to $29.7 million.

One in eight people around the world is chronically undernourished, the United Nations' food agencies
said on 1st October 2013 warning world leaders that some regions would fail in halving the number of
hungry by 2015. In their latest report on food insecurity, the U.N. agencies estimated that 842 million
people were suffering chronic hunger in 2011-13, or 12 percent of the world's population, down 17
percent from 1990-92. FAO, WFP and IFAD define undernourishment, or hunger, in the State of Food
Insecurity in the World 2013 report as "not having enough food for an active and healthy life" and an
inability to "meet dietary energy requirements". The vast majority of people suffering hunger (827
