gen die Ergebnisse der aktuellen Statistik
der International Congress & Convention
Association (ICCA): Berlin ist 2013 in die
Top 3 der internationalen Kongressdesti-
nationen vorgerckt und auch das Estrel
verzeichnet als Eventlocation immer mehr
Kongresse und Tagungen. Und so unter-
nimmt unser Verkaufs-, Marketing- und
PR-Team, das wir Ihnen in dieser Aus-
gabe nher vorstellen mchten, stets neue
Anstrengungen, um fr eine optimale Aus-

been out and about in Berlin this year.
Not just a place to go for tourists and
sightseers, Berlin is also a favoured
conference location. According to the
most recent International Congress &
Convention Association (ICCA) reports,
Berlin has worked its way into the top
three international conference destinations
of 2013, and the Estrel is the location of
choice for an increasing number of con-
ferences and conventions. While this is
certainly cause to celebrate, were always
striving to achieve more. Thats why our
ten-person sales team continually devel-
ops new strategies to optimise the load
between hotel, conference centre and
theatre. In this issue, well introduce you
to our hard-hitting sales team, PR and
marketing team. Also, we are pleased to
introduce our new meeting room Antibes.

Was waren fr Sie die entschei-
denden Grnde das Estrel fr Ihr
Catering zu beauftragen?
Wir hatten im Sommer 2012 eine in-
ternationale Veranstaltung mit ber
1.500 Gsten, die allesamt im Estrel
untergebracht waren und verkstigt
wurden. Es ist erstaunlich, wie rei-
bungslos alles ablief und wie zufrieden
die Gste waren. Und etwas Gutes
sollte man nie tauschen.
Welche Vorhaben planen Sie weiter-
hin mit dem Estrel?
Wir haben das Estrel als professio-
nellen Dienstleister in Sachen Catering
und Hotel kennen gelernt. Fr uns
ist sicher: Sofern wir wieder ein Event
in Berlin planen, werden wir mit
100%-iger Sicherheit anfragen und
wohl auch wieder die Dienstleistungen
in Anspruch nehmen.
Which qualities do you associate
with the Estrel Berlin, especially in
regards to Estrel Catering?
The highest level of professionalism,
uncompromising expertise, incredible
exibility and fast response time. In
my opinion, the Estrel has the ability
to full practically every wish.
What factors led you to choose
Estrel for your catering needs?
In the summer of 2012, we had an
international event with more than
1,500 guests, all of whom we were
able to accommodate and entertain
at the Estrel. It was incredible to see
how smoothly everything went and
how pleased our guests were.
Will you continue to plan any pro-
jects with Estrel?
We got to know the Estrel as a pro-
fessional catering and accommodati-
on provider. For us, its a sure thing.
Insofar as were planning another
event in Berlin, I am certain we will
work with the Estrel and utilise their
services again.

Seit ein paar Wochen liegt Antibes nur ein paar Me-
ter von Paris, Lyon und Nizza entfernt. Dabei handelt
es sich jedoch nicht um franzsische Stdte, sondern
um Tagungsrume im Estrel Berlin. Der Ende Juli fer-
tiggestellte Eventraum Antibes, benannt nach einer
Stadt an der Cte dAzur, bietet auf 60 Quadratme-
tern Raum fr kleinere Konferenzen, Seminare und fr
hochkartige Board-Meetings fr bis zu 16 Personen.
Eine komplette Lngsseite des Raumes besteht aus
einer bodentiefen Fensterfront, wodurch der Raum
lichtdurchutet wird und eine sprbare Leichtigkeit
erhlt. Die weien Wnde und Lamellen, der moder-
ne weie Konferenztisch mit allen technischen An-
schlssen und die pastellfarbenen Gemlde geben
dem Raum eine mediterrane Note. Es fehlt eigentlich
nur noch der Sand, den jedoch ersetzt ein mokkabrau-
ner Teppich. Antibes reiht sich wie eine weie Perle
an die Kette der nunmehr 80 Meetingrume des Estrel.
Recently, it became possible to walk a few short me-
tres from Paris to Lyon to Nice and right on through
to Antibes. How so? Because in this case, were not
talking about French cities, but conference rooms
in the Estrel Berlin. Construction on the Antibes event
room, named after a city in the Cte dAzur, was com-
pleted at the end of July. The room offers 60 square
metres of space for small conferences, seminars and
top-level board meetings of up to 16 people. One
entire wall is a oor-to-ceiling window, allowing light
to ood the room and giving it a spacious, bright at-
mosphere. White walls and blinds, a modern white
conference table with a complete array of connection
terminals and pastel-hued paintings give the room a
Mediterranean feel. The only thing missing is sand,
an effect weve recreated with a mocha-coloured
carpet, making Antibes the latest pearl in our neck-
lace of more than 80 event rooms at the Estrel.

Jan Frederik Vanhamel kennt den Kongress- und
Hotelmarkt besser als seine Westentasche. Als Director
of Sales im Estrel wei er genau, wohin die MICE-
Trends gehen, welche Destinationen in den Top 10
der ICCA-Statistik stehen und welche Aktionen Mit-
bewerber gerade planen. Gemeinsam mit seinem
9-kpgen Sales-Team, das nach Wirtschaftsbranchen
und Regionen unterteilt ist, sorgt er unter Bercksich-
tigung der Preispolitik fr die hchstmgliche Aus-
lastung von Hotel, Show und Veranstaltungsbereich.
Zum Tagesgeschft der Vertriebsmannschaft gehrt
die Kontaktpege von Bestandskunden ebenso wie die
Akquise von Neukunden. In regelmigen Meetings
plant und bespricht das Team seine Verkaufsaktionen:
Darin wird festgelegt, welcher Sales Manager wann
zu Kundenveranstaltungen einldt und wer an Tourismus-
und Fachmessen, wie der IMEX Frankfurt oder der
EIBTM Barcelona, teilnimmt. Obwohl alle wichtigen
Verkaufsmessen in Deutschland und im europischen
Ausland zum Pichtprogramm der Vertriebsmann-
schaft gehren, wird gerade auf persnliche Besuche
bei Unternehmen im Rahmen von Roadshows oder
Salestrips viel Wert gelegt. Doch nicht jeder Termin
bringt automatisch eine Anfrage mit sich. Oftmals
bedarf es mehrerer Besuche, Hausfhrungen, vieler
Telefonate und zahlreicher E-Mails bis das Interesse
bei Kunden soweit geweckt ist, dass ein Angebot ver-
schickt werden kann. Bleibt die gewnschte Resonanz

ness, Jan Frederik Vanhamel knows this market like
the back of his hand. As the Director of Sales at
the Estrel Berlin, Vanhamel is ahead of the curve
when it comes to the latest MICE trends, the Top
sending out invitations for Estrel client events,
which teams members will represent the Estrel
Berlin at tourism conventions and trade shows
such as the IMEX in Frankfurt or the EIBTM Expo in
Barcelona. Estrel sales team members are on hand
at all of the important hotel and convention
industry exhibitions and trade shows in Europe. In
addition, one of the teams main priorities is to
personally visit both existing and potential clients
during road shows and sales trips. While one visit
can sometimes seal the deal, often additional sight
inspections, phone calls and e-mail correspondence
are required to make certain that the client needs
are fully met.
The work of the sales team also includes conclu-
ding framework agreements with corporate cu-
stomers. Key Account Manager Stefanie Schmidt
is primarily responsible for the Berlin market. In
describing the sales teams work with corporate
customers, Ms Schmidt explains, We agree on
pricing frameworks and we negotiate special prices
according to the booking volume. Our work also
involves constantly updating customer records in
our database, and a large part of the job has us
constantly on the phone with customers pitching
new ideas and working together to come up with
new event concepts. Tour operators and travel
agencies are also a special focus at the Estrel, and
our tourism duo of Matthias Mandow and Kerstin
Httner are the contact persons for the tourist
groups which comprise an important percentage
of our client mix.
Our Marketing & PR team is responsible for keeping
the Estrel in the public eye. Managing all forms
of communication comprise PR Manager Miranda
Meiers workday. She liaisons directly with jour-
nalists, composes press releases, organises PR
events and manages the Estrel website and all
other online platforms such as Facebook, Twitter,
etc. Marketing Assistant Carolin Rentsch keeps
our brochures and company presentations up to
date, coordinates adverts with graphics designers,
organises and oversees corporate video shoots and
works closely with Managing Director Ute Jacobs
in developing new shows, packages and in-house
events to inspire our guests.

petition. Vanhamel heads up a nine-member team
whose responsibilities are divided up according to
region and business sector. Together, their job is to
optimize occupancy, increase revenue and maximize
prot for the Estrels hotel, show and event divisions.
The sales teams area of responsibility includes key-
account management and new account acquisition.
Through regular sales meetings a strategy is determined
as to which sales manager handles which tasks f.e.

stndige Griff zum Telefon, um Kunden von unseren
Mglichkeiten zu begeistern und mit ihnen gemein-
sam Veranstaltungskonzepte zu nden, machen einen
Groteil unserer Arbeit aus: Sales ist also mehr als nur
Smalltalk. Besonders betreut werden im Estrel auch
die Reiseveranstalter und Reisebros: Das Tourismus-
Duo mit Matthias Mandow und Kerstin Httner ist
Ansprechpartner fr die touristischen Gruppen, die
einen beachtlichen Anteil der Estrel-Gste darstellen.
Dafr, dass das Estrel stndig in den Medien im
Gesprch ist, sorgt das Marketing- & PR-Team
des Unternehmens. Und so spielt Kommunikation im
Berufsalltag von Pressesprecherin Miranda Meier die
Hauptrolle. Sie hat den direkten Draht zu Journalisten,
schreibt Pressemitteilungen, organisiert PR-Events,
kmmert sich um die Pege der Website und betreut
Facebook, Twitter & Co. Und Marketingassistentin
Carolin Rentsch sorgt dafr, dass Broschren und
Unternehmensprsentationen auf dem aktuellsten
Stand sind, stimmt Anzeigen mit der Grakagentur
ab, betreut den Dreh fr den neuen Imagelm und
entwickelt gemeinsam mit der Geschftsfhrenden
Direktorin Ute Jacobs konzeptionelle Ideen, wie man
Gste auf Shows, Packages oder hauseigene Veran-

Die TCB-Band mit den Original-Musikern von Elvis
Presley gibt anlsslich Elvis 79. Geburtstag am 4. und
5. Januar zwei Konzerte im Estrel Festival Center.
Gesanglich untersttzt werden sie vom sterreichischen
Rocksnger Dennis Jale sowie dem Gospel-Quartett
Elvis Imperials, das Presleys Begleitchor war. Zwischen
den Liedern gibt Elvis engster Vertrauter Joe Esposito
Einblicke in das Leben mit der Musiklegende. Der
75-Jhrige verrt, wie es damals wirklich war: mit
Elvis in Deutschland, das Treffen mit den Beatles und
der Augenblick, als er Elvis am 16. August 1977 leblos
in Graceland auffand. Zustzlich werden rund 30
Fotograen von Elvis Konzertfotografen Ed Bonja im
Estrel ausgestellt. Im Anschluss klingen die zeitlosen

the Estrel Festival Center on 4 and 5 January.

singer Dennis Jale as well as the gospel quartet

numbers, Elviss closest condant, Joe Esposito, will
offer insights into the life of the music legend.
The 75-year-old tells all about the way things were,
from travelling with Elvis to Germany, meeting
the Beatles and that heartbreaking moment on
16 August 1977 when he found Elvis lifeless on the
Graceland estate. In addition, around 30 photo-
graphs of Elvis shot by concert photographer Ed
Bonja will be on display at the Estrel. Next in the
line-up, the timeless, infectious hits of the worlds
most famous bespectacled performer will reverberate
through the Estrel. Starting on 8 January, the show

the entertainment metropolis that is Las Vegas,
Stars in Concert is back on the stage at the Estrel
Festival Center. The new season in Berlin was ki-
cked off in style, as this September marks the 16th
Buddy Holly. The rock and roll legend, who died in a
plane crash in 1959 at the tender age of 22, wrote
hits which had the power to enthral audiences in
the decade of petticoats just as they do today.
Likewise, its honest, hand-crafted music that
trademarks Chris and Geoff Dahl, who put on an
energy-laden stage performance in Im a soulman
- A tribute to the Blues Brothers from 22 January
to 2 February. They look re-markably like a modern-
day Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, complete with
black suits, black hats and black sunglasses. The two
Canadians put on a lively show in the style of the cult
classic lms, with hits like Everybody Needs Some-
body to Love, Soul Man or Gimme Some Lovin
interspersed with crisp comedy and tons of action.

Concert. Around 450 invited guests, including CEOs,
ambassadors, politicians, TV personalities and pop
stars celebrated at the large commemorative charity
show. RTL host Wolfram Kons and Stars in Concert
producer Bernhard Kurz introduced an evening of un-
beatable musical acts. In this specially designed show,
look and sound alike artists performing as Tina Turner,
Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, George Michael, Marilyn
Monroe and the Blues Brothers jumped from one
musical genre to the next with one common goal:
to help children. Kurz nished off the show, saying,
That was a splendid evening. My thanks to every-
one on stage and behind the scenes who made this
outstanding success possible by donating their
earnings. At the check presentation, the cheering
was especially robust. Stars in Concert was able
to donate 16,000 Euros to the RTL foundation Wir
helfen Kindern e.V. (we help children). The money
collected on this evening as well as other donations
from the RTL Charity Marathon will be used to aid
projects for children around the world.

Nach erfolgreichen Gastspielen im englischen Blackpool
und der Entertainment-Metropole Las Vegas sind sie
zurck auf der Bhne des Estrel Festival Center: die
Stars in Concert. Zum Auftakt der neuen Spielsaison
wurde gro gefeiert. Denn im September vor 16 Jahren
bejubelte das Publikum die allererste Vorstellung von
Stars in Concert in Berlin. Im Rahmen einer glamou-
rsen Charity-Geburtstagsshow feierten 450 geladene
Gste, darunter Geschftspartner, Botschafter, Politiker
sowie TV- und Pop-Stars. RTL-Moderator Wolfram Kons
und Stars in Concert-Produzent Bernhard Kurz fhrten
durch den Abend, der an musikalischer Vielfalt kaum zu
berbieten war. Schlielich prsentierten die Darsteller
von Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, George
Michael, Marilyn Monroe und den Blues Brothers
eine fulminante Show quer durch alle Musikrich-
tungen, aber mit einem Ziel: Kindern helfen! Kurz
erklrte nach der Show: Das war ein groartiger
Abend. Mein Dank gilt allen Beteiligten vor und hin-

Die ersten weihnachtlichen Leckereien stehen bereits
in den Geschften: Ein Zeichen dafr, dass es wieder

Im Zeichen der Winterspiele von Sotschi ndet am
7. Dezember im Estrel Convention Center wie-
der die Ballnacht des Berliner Spitzensports statt.
Dann werden im Rahmen der Gala CHAMPIONS
Berlins Sportler des Jahres nicht nur Berlins beliebtes-
te Sportler, Vereine und Trainer gekrt, sondern es wer-
den auch die Kandidaten fr Olympia 2014 vom Olym-
piasttzpunkt Berlin vorgestellt. Bereits zum zehnten
Mal werden Olympiasieger sowie Welt- und Europa-
meister auf dem roten Teppich erwartet. Neben Pro-
minenten wie Robert Harting (Diskus-Olympia sieger)
und Daniela Schulte (Schwimm-Paralympicssiegerin)

In honour of the Winter Games in Sochi, the Estrel
Convention Center is once again hosting the an-
nual Berlin athletics ball on 7 December. Not only
will we be honouring Berlins most beloved ath-
letes, teams and trainers during our gala CHAM-
PIONS Berlins Athletes of the Year, but well
also be presenting the Olympic Support Centers
candidates for the 2014 Olympics. In our tenth
year of hosting, were expecting Olympic medal-
lists as well as World and European Championship
winners on the red carpet. Athletes such as Ro-
bert Harting (Olympic gold medallist in discus) and
Daniela Schulte (Paralympic gold medallist in
swimming) as well as high-end entertainment and a
gala buffet promise a very special event in Berlins
athletic calendar. But you dont have to be a top
athlete to experience this glittering, gala evening.
