Evenly rising crop flow in combination with increasing crop speed (CLAAS has more than 20 years of crop flow experience); Only minor reduction of crop flow crosssection (7% between feeder and discharge accelerator).
4 Competitive comparison JAGUAR 980-930 vs. New Holland FR 850-450
Evenly rising crop flow and increasing crop speed; The wider the cutting cylinder, the more the downstream crop flow cross-section must be reduced (13% between feeder and discharge accelerator).
Feeder
Front attachment matching
Large Drum: Feeder width 28.3 in = -16%
New Small Drum: Adjustable feeder cones for opening width (23.6-39.4 in)
Perfect interplay of front attachment and vehicle: ORBIS feeder cones support the crop flow without restricting the feeder width (28.7 in); Undisturbed feeding, regardless of front attachment cross inclination; The development of own front attachments enables optimum matching of crop flow components.
The Kemper/John Deere front attachments cannot make full use of the feeder width of 33.9 in; Width reduction followed by spreading out is quite unlikely. Dependence on supplier in a very central crop flow area: Optimization of front attachment and machine is not an "in-house" matter.
Feeder
General
33.9 in
Tried-and-tested feeder cross section designed for up to 1160 hp ensures reliable pre-compression and high throughput under all conditions; Removable wear bars for lower and upper feed rollers.
The wider the feeder, the more difficult it is to achieve high pre-compression from small crop amounts and/or lightweight crop; Replaceable wear bars only for upper feed roller; Optional lower bar starting in 2012.
Cutting cylinder
Accessibility
V-type opening is possible with front attachment fitted for quick visual inspections; Lateral opening is possible after removing the front attachment and swinging the feed roller housing open to the side; Complete separation is possible. When carrying out major service work, the feed roller housing can remain fitted e.g. to the ORBIS front attachment.
7 Competitive comparison JAGUAR 980-930 vs. New Holland FR 850-450
V-type opening is possible; Lateral opening is not possible; Complete separation is possible, but: The bottom feed and pre-compression rollers remain connected with the cylinder housing; A crane, telescopic loader or front loader is required. The cylinder can be completely removed and put down on feet.

Corn cracker
New Hollands Variflow System
When working in grass, the corn cracker swings out of the crop flow and is locked in parking position: According to NH, this takes two minutes; Complete removal with a swinging jib and a chain hoist (option) takes 30 minutes (acc. to manufacturer); The system reduces the distance between cylinder and accelerator by 60%; The manufacturer claims that this saves 40 hp - when working in grass.
12
Corn cracker
Installation and removal
The corn cracker can be easily moved out of and into its working position on rails; In all applications, the discharge accelerator maintains the optimum position relating to the upstream and downstream subassemblies; When working in grass, the CC can either remain in the discharge and cooling system compartment or be removed. At any rate, it is not driven; Insert the filler housing into the lower discharge chute and tighten two brackets.
Easy swinging in and out; The system reduces the distance between cutting cylinder and accelerator by 60%; Necessary because otherwise the crop flow would be decelerated heavily due to the reduced cross-section? The system enlarges the distance between discharge accelerator and discharge flap: Problems with sticky material? Permanently running corn cracker: Power requirement? Service life?

Four flat paddles/section; V-type paddle configuration engages continuously into the crop flow; Enormous throwing capacity at 223 ft/s for reliable throw onto trailer; The throwing capacity can be adapted using the accelerator gap adjustment (either manual or electric).
Six thick paddles/section: 50% more clamping points and higher clamping forces (paddle thickness) require more power. Straight paddles (center) engage straight into the crop flow; Lower throwing capacity at 190.3 ft/s may not always be sufficient (Example: making splits through the field in corn).
14
Wear plates can be accessed from the outside; Three extensions available; 225 rotating angle is possible; Automatic parallel guiding of filling point on the trailer available; Two upper discharge chute positions can be stored and parking position is possible.
Wear plates: The first third is accessible from above, second third can be accessed only from below; Only one extension is available (27.6 in); Only a rotational angle of 210 is available; No automatic flap control is available; Two upper discharge chute positions can be stored and parking position is possible.
15
Silaging agent systems for conventional and highly concentrated silaging agents are available; Easy control and monitoring through CEBIS; Quantity- (gal or gal/h) or throughputdependent (gal or gal/t) dosing is possible without changing nozzles.
Additional tank (75.3 gal) for use as silaging agent or fuel tank; Control and monitoring by IntelliView III; Dosing by variable pump in combination with three nozzle types: Only quantity-dependent (gal/h) dosing is possible.

Drive concept with a clear goal: Maximum efficiency. Mechanical drives wherever possible, hydraulic drives where they are necessary (comfortable control): oil circulation: 17.4 gallons; Small efficiency losses; Efficient, but simple control system; No-compromise reliability.
In general a drive concept with many hydraulic drives and few mechanical drives: oil circulation: 26.4 gallons; Increased efficiency losses = reduced energy efficiency; Increased complexity regarding control system; Increased failure susceptibility.
18
Transverse engine for direct power band belt drive without losses (high efficiency); Compact feeder drive concept with short hydraulic hoses: Minimized efficiency losses; Changing feeder torques are realized without a delay. Immediate deceleration of main drive due to QUICK STOP, after shutting down; Front attachment drive by means of comfortable quick-release coupler.
Longitudinal engine requires angle drive for power band belt drive: Loss of efficiency due to power redirection; Angle drive must be cooled (power is consumed). Feeder drive concept with long hydraulic hoses: Increased efficiency losses; Changing feeder torques arrive with a delay due to increased absorption of hydraulic energy in the long hydraulic hoses.

Flawless access to all important engine components; Silent blocks for low-vibration engine support.
Worse access due to higher position, integration and non-removable mud guards; Silent blocks for low-vibration engine support.
22
Fixed rotary chaff screen with rotating air intake tube. Large screen surface due to conical shape: Low air velocity, resulting in less soiling; Intake of cleaned air through a large surface. Suction effect: Use of suction effect produced by the discharge accelerator.
Rotating rotary chaff screen with fixed air intake tube (similar to JAG 880-820): Sealing by brush, leaving reliability requirements unsatisfied; V-belt drive susceptible to wear. Suction is generated by hydraulic pump additionally integrated into the floor: Concept involving a greater effort.
23
Constant-pressure system, i.e. a pressure of 210 bar is permanently available: Immediate reaction; No permanent circulation. Oil is pumped only when needed; Less oil heating-up. All hydraulic lines and hoses are as short as possible: Reduced efficiency losses.
Constant-flow system, i.e. oil is pumped permanently (gal/min): Pressure must be built up first; Permanent circulation. Unneeded oil flows back through a pressure relief valve; Increased oil heating-up. Largely dimensioned hydraulic hoses of several yard length, some hydraulic lines: Increased efficiency losses.
