1. State the problem. (Hint: Just write the objective above in the form of a question.) Figure out what mineral is 2. Gather information. (Look it up and/or ask an expert)
How do I Use the steps of the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral.

3. Form a hypothesis. Write a statement that tells what mineral you think yours is (your two guesses). my guesses are sulfur and gold

4. Start the experiment! (Follow the procedure.) 1. Mr. Finan gave me a mineral. 5. lustor 2.scratch 6. Google images 3.streak 7. 4. color 8. 5. Record and analyze data. *see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 6. Form a conclusion. This must be a paragraph that includes:
An answer to the problem (question 1). How your hypothesis compares with the actual results. (Was your hypothesis correct? If not, how close were you?) A description of your mineral and what helped you find the identification of your mineral the most.

I used the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral. The steps that I used where to do some test like streak and hardness. Then I looked for some yellow minerals that did not shine and were smooth on Google Images that came up with some good possibilities. So then, I decided to look at a picture of all of them and sulfur was the closest. I looked at the results of my test that I took and the result of the test that the experts took and the results were the same. My hypothesis did not compare well because I thought it was potassium. Although it was actually the mineral sulfur. My mineral sulfur was yellow with a white streak; it had a hardness of two. It was shiny. Was also light, broke easily, and had one special property. It would break if it were hot and would burn blue in the dark if you boiled it. In conclusion, Google Images helped me the most. Google Images helped me the most because I just looked up dull yellow rock and looked for the one that was most alike and that was sulfur.

7. Communicate your results. Post this report and your Data Sheet where people can see it !
