Mineral Identification Report

be hard to do without a specific order. 1. State the problem (the objective in the form of a question). 2. Gather information. 3. Form a hypothesis. 4. Experiment! 5. Record and analyze data. 6. Form a conclusion. 7. Communicate results.

Corundum Lazurite

Do you think the steps below of the scientific method must be followed in order? Yes, because __It would

Now that you are done researching and identifying your mineral fill-in the information for each step of the scientific method below. Then, number which step was first, second, etc. Objective: Use the steps of the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral. Materials: - Mineral - computer - magnet - brain 1. Get mineral 2. test the mineral 3. Do mineral ID 4. Figure out 1 guess - SP Kit - glass - H&S test - pencil, paper 5. work on mineral ID 6. Do guess 2 7. start finishing up mineral ID 8. Finish up and find all guesses and figure out mineral

Procedure:

1. State the problem. (Hint: Just write the objective above in the form of a question.) Find the Identification for my mineral 2. Gather information. (Look it up and/or ask an expert) *see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 3. Form a hypothesis. Write a statement that tells what mineral you think yours is (your two guesses). Corunmdum Lazurite

4. Start the experiment! (Follow the procedure.) 5. Record and analyze data. *see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 6. Form a conclusion. This must be a paragraph that includes:
An answer to the problem (question 1). How your hypothesis compares with the actual results. (Was your hypothesis correct? If not, how close were you?) A description of your mineral and what helped you find the identification of your mineral the most.

Type your paragraph here We used the scientific method to find information to find the identity of the mineral. When we did the ID lab report, we looked up different types of minerals until we found the right information on the mineral with a certain type or mineral. The first guess was Corundum, which was correct. My second guess was Laurite. That was not close to being right. My mineral is purple and shiny and has a crystal touch to it. What helped me most to find the identification chart, was on Mr. Finans website. http://webmineral.com/Alphabetical_Listing.shtml#.UFnfjY3N_-k
