Failure modes, effects and criticality Analysis tutorial

Chapter 1 failure mode effects and criticality analysis principles 1.1 Overview Failure modes and effects analysis (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, abbreviated as FMEA) is to analyze the system for each item of all possible failure modes of the system may affect the effectiveness of any and every severity of a failure mode, the detection the degree of difficulty and the frequency of occurrence to be classified as a method of inductive analysis. Failure mode effects and criticality analysis (Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis, abbreviated as FMECA) is a failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis (Criticality Analysis-CA) portfolio analysis methods, in this paper, in addition to special specified, the FMEA and FMECA collectively referred to as "FMEA". FMEA as a reliability analysis method originated in the United States. Back in the early 50's, the U.S. Grumman Aircraft Corporation in the development of the aircraft when the main control system using FMEA method, and achieved good results. To the late 1960s and early 1970s, FMEA methods have been widely used in aviation, aerospace, ships, weapons and other military systems developed, and gradually penetrate into the machinery, automobiles, medical equipment and other civilian industries, and achieved remarkable results . China in the early 1980s, with the reliability of the technology in the engineering, FMECA concepts and methods have gradually been accepted. Currently in aviation, aerospace, weapons, ships, electronics, machinery, automobiles, household appliances and other industries, FMEA methods have received a certain degree of popularity, in order to ensure the reliability of products play an important role. It can be said that the method is a long development and improvement, has been widely used and recognized as the research and development of the system must be completed a reliability analysis. 1.2 FMEA method category In the product life cycle stages, FMEA application purpose and application methods is slightly different, see

Table 1-1. From Table 1-1 can be seen in all stages of the product life cycle although there are different forms of FMEA, but its fundamental purpose is only one, that is, from product design (functional design, hardware design, software design), production (production feasibility analysis, process design, equipment design and use) and find a variety of product use point defects and weaknesses, thereby enhancing the reliability level.

FMEA Tutorial In practical engineering, FMEA is divided into functional FMEA (Function FMEA-FFMEA), hardware design FMEA (Design FMEA-DFMEA) and process FMEA (Process FMEA-PFMEA). In this article, if no special explanation, then are the product hardware design FMEA FMEA as an example to explain the principles and processes. 1.3 FMEA analysis steps FMECA is generally based on a systematic procedure shown in Figure 1-1.
