Scope

This standard serves as a decision-making aid for gray cast iron blanks for cylinder blocks and crankcases exhibiting corrosion in as-received condition. Deviating from VW 137 50 and QP A 001 grounded therein, it describes the release criteria for corroded surfaces. 2 Designation

Acceptance requirement for cylinder block and crankcase acc. to PV 6276. 3 Test procedure

Testing is performed in the form of 100 % visual inspection. Possible evaluation results:

Corroded spots on the crankcase shall be rubbed off using a cleaning cloth soaked in oil.

Acceptance requirements and evaluation

Permanent traces of corrosion on unpainted surfaces which are to be mechanically worked afterwards are permissible. Corrosion is not permissible on surfaces and locations in the oil and water chamber which are not machined. Evaluation of corrosion on the cylinder block and crankcase, see figures 1 to 8.
