Jesus said we must love our neighbor as ourselves, not right after ourselves. When Jesus spoke of the Kingdom of God, he was not speaking of Heaven or some eternal reward. He said the Kingdom of God is amongst us. (Luke 17:21) Jesus said the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that grows bigger than anyone could ever expect. (Luke 13:19) Jesus said the Kingdom of God is like yeast, which leavens all the bread dough, not only a portion. (Luke 13:20) He was speaking of his vision of a reality in which all of us live in full accord with Gods will. And what is the will of God which, when followed, yields the experience of this illusive Kingdom of God? Immediately after describing the Kingdom of God, Jesus talks about strangers from east and west, from north and south, eating in the Kingdom of God as part of a great reversal, where some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last. (Luke 13:29-30) Shortly after uttering those words, Jesus admonishes the host of a banquet to invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, (Luke 14:13-14) Jesus, who manifested the Kingdom of God in the way he conducted his life, was criticized by the religious leaders of his day for welcoming sinners and eating with them. (Luke 15:2) In response to their criticism, Jesus tells parables of a shepherd searching for a single lost sheep, a woman searching for a single lost coin, and a father welcoming a wayward son. (Luke 15:3-32) He goes on to talk pointedly about wealth, always praising those who share it freely and condemning those who would hold onto it. (Luke 16:1-15) Taken together, Gods will is spelled out by Jesus as the welcoming of the stranger and sharing of all we have with others, especially the less fortunate. We who call ourselves First Christian Church of Fullerton practice what we preach! We are good stewards of the resources God has given us including time, talent, and finances. Consider this: every dollar you share with your church benefits someone in need! When you pay pastors salaries, you bring comfort to your fellow church members who are hurting, whether they are hospitalized, stricken with grief, or otherwise in need of support. You provide a pastor with the opportunity to study and pray so he can offer the Gospel message every Sunday morning. You also make sure someone will be dedicated to training people to be disciples and disciples to be disciple-makers. You feed the spiritually hungry, give drink to those who thirst for understanding, visit those who are alone, and bring people together in fellowship. When you pay a secretarys salary, you make sure that everyone who enters our church or calls on the phone is welcomed with the love of Christ. You share news of the ministry of our church through an outstanding weekly newsletter. You provide bulletins and other resources to enable people to participate in any or all of our three weekly services. Perhaps most importantly, you provide a switchboard for communication between our members. When you maintain our facility, you put a roof over the heads of alcoholics and drug addicts as they find recovery from the ravages of addiction. You provide a home to the Florence Crittenton High School. You give people a place to gather to worship God, to study the Gospel, and to form lasting relationships with other Christians. Every dime you give to your church, every hour you volunteer, and every talent you share goes to benefit someone in need, directly or indirectly. Where else could you make such a profound difference as you practice the stewardship of your resources? We know the gifts God has given you are precious, and we go to great pains to share them where they are most needed. Our church can only practice good stewardship because you practice good stewardship. Thank you for being so generous.

Mitten Tree
Again this year we will be having a Mitten Tree in the Narthex to give out hats, scarves, socks, mittens and gloves to those who share a meal at our Hot Meal Ministry on Wednesday nights. We need hats, scarves, socks, mittens and gloves! We serve mostly men! If you knit or crochet, they love the homemade items as they are so warm and they really appreciate it. Each December 1 we decorate a Christmas tree in the Narthex with these items and each Wednesday night in December we give out approximately 40 tickets at the meal and they in turn come over to the Sanctuary building and choose an item from the tree. We already have some items but always can use more. Keep them in mind as you are out shopping, bring the items to the church and there will be a plastic container marked Mitten Tree in the Narthex starting November 3. If you would like to volunteer an hour or so anytime during the month of December, please get in touch with Sue Harless and/or Diane Daugherty who are the coordinators of this project.

The Senior Book Club

We have chosen The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom as our next book. This is an historical novel, a thoughtprovoking look at life on a tobacco plantation in the late 1700s. It both shocks us and draws us into the souls of these compelling characters. We will discuss the book at Pat Hunds home on November 21, 2013

Saints Alive! Living Generously

Growing Our Faith Through Generosity Our stewardship focus for this month is 1 Corinthians 16:14, Now concerning the collection for the saints: you should follow the directions I gave to the churches of Galatia. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put aside and save whatever extra you earn, so that collections need not be taken when I come. And when I arrive, I will send any whom you approve with letters to take your gift to Jerusalem. If it seems advisable that I should go also, they will accompany me. Corinth was a Roman colony in Greece, an economic center with two harbors, and was a prosperous, cosmopolitan environment. Paul instructed the Corinthian congregation with the affection of a parent and admonished them when needed. He addressed the subjects of divisions in the church, authority, morality, spiritual gifts, and collections for the saints. Using the church in Galatia as an example for the Corinthians, Paul helped unify diverse congregations in a common mission of relief and witness. Later, Paul used the church of Corinth as an example for the church in Rome, further widening the common mission. Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He is to go about doing good. Yours are the hands with which He is to bless people now. St. Teresa of Avila Please put your Saints Alive! Living Generously card in the collection box under our generosity tree and hang your leaf on our tree.

Disciples Mens Breakfast

All men are invited to share in a homemade breakfast and fellowship next Saturday, November 2, from 8-9:30 in Chapman lounge. All men of FCCF are welcome. You will be amazed at the inspiration and encouragement we all receive from these times we share together. Join us around the table and be surprised yourself.

Last Session for David Matson Series

This Tuesday night promises to be a great session as David will be sharing his testimony and showing us how all we have been studying this month comes together. You wont want to miss it. See you Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in Chapman Lounge. Oct. 29: The Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant Reformation Justification was at the center of the Catholic-Protestant divide that took place in the sixteenth century. But it is no mere boring history lesson! Justification is as relevant today as it was back then. There have been and will continue to be intense ecumenical discussions over justification. Your own understanding of what Christianity is all about is likely to be determined by how you understand this central doctrine of the Christian faith.

Getting Through The Holidays

This year's one evening session of "Getting Through the Holidays" will be held on Tues., Nov. 5. It will begin at 7 P.M. in Chapman Lounge and conclude by 8:30 P.M. It is particularly designed for those who have experienced a death in their family circle and/or among their close friends since the 2012 holiday season. The first time one faces the prospect of going through the holidays, after such a loss, can be a very difficult experience. The activities planned for this evening will enable participants to share their feelings about the upcoming holidays and to consider specific ways they want to engage the holidays in light of their loss, or losses. A registration form, deadline Nov. 3, for this annual activity, which will again be led by Ed Linberg, is posted on the Bulletin Board. There is no registration fee. This will enable Ed to have sufficient copies of the resources that will be handed out to those who attend.

Next Sunday 2013 Alternative Gift Faire

Next Sunday is the day. From 11 A.M. 2 you, and those you invite to join you at the AGF can make a significant statement about the importance of Christmas giving that helps people in need instead of simply piling up more and more stuff to put in your closets, drawers and garage. Attached is the shopping list of the organizations that will be involved. If November 3rd will not work for you, you can fill out a Shopping List that you will find on the display rack in the Narthex and leave it and your check made out to FCCF, Alternative Gift Faire in the office or call Donna Woodbridge in the office anytime during business hours (Mon. Thurs. 8:30 4:00 and Friday, 8:30 Noon), give her your order and she will shop for you on 11/3. Your items will be in the office and available for you to pick up anytime after 2 P.M. on November 3.! How easy is that! If you have questions about the AGF, please call either Helen Bailey, 714-526-3082, or Barbara Fenters, 714-526-7940. One more thing, there will be tri-tip sandwiches and bratwurst sandwiches for you to purchase so you won't "go hungry" while you are doing your Christmas shopping! And we promise you'll have plenty of places to park and almost no traffic to deal with by coming to the 2013 Alternative Gift Faire on the Plaza next to our Fellowship Hall on Sunday, November 3rd! Advent is Coming and We Are Creating Memories Again!

This Sunday, there will be a large poster with a list of the days of Advent and scriptures to sign up for in the Narthex. Specifically, we ask individuals and families to write a half-page Advent devotional message which we will be publishing in a booklet and reading each day in Advent, Dec. 1- Dec. 25. Normally, we write about the scripture selected for that day and give a brief prayer. But perhaps instead you would like to share a family Christmas tradition, recipe, photo, or other creative art. We will ask that these be submitted as electronically or on paper by Sunday, Nov. 10. This year we will be joined by some of the members of Casa de Oracin, who are also contributing to this devotional guide. Please let Barry Woodbridge know if you would be willing to volunteer either some layout and design time to assemble and design the booklet.

Need some exercise and have fun too?

A local Senior Coed Bowling League has two openings, one for Tuesday afternoon at 12 Noon and one for Thursday afternoon at 12 Noon. We meet at the AMF Carter Bowling Lanes, 1501 S. Lemon Street, Fullerton (near the 91 Freeway). After a brief warm-up period, we bowl a total of 3 games starting at 12:30 PM and usually finish at approximately 3:30 PM. Also, several of us meet for a late lunch at a local restaurant shortly afterwards for more comradely. We are beginning our fourth week of the league so it's not too late to join. We have a great time and a lot of fun each time we meet. The league ends in the spring with a trip to either Laughlin or Las Vegas for the final 3 day tournament. If anyone is interested, please call the League President, Louise Boyd at (714) 992-2172 and tell her Phil Forbes sent you!. Phil Forbes

Another one of FCCFs Young Adults working in Ministry

Kenny Harisis one of our former youth who recently graduated from Crean Lutheran High School has chosen to serve as a missionary through Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Orlando. Below is a letter he has sent to let us know what he is doing. As many of you know, these missionaries have to raise their own money to go to these foreign countries to work. Kenny would never ask for help. If you would like to donate to help Kenny, please contact Donna in the office and she can direct you. Dear friends and family, Ernso was assumed dead when a rescue team found him in the rubble of the 2010 earthquake in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. Like so many other bodies, he was taken to a makeshift morgue. Hours later, a relief worker walked by and heard a faint knocking sound at the door of the morgue. The young boy, left among the dead, was alive, but just barely. Ernso was given a safe place to recover at YWAM's property in Haiti. Earthquakes and hurricanes have caused many, like Ernso, to be in desperate need of basic food, housing and sanitation. Most Haitians live on one dollar and one meal a day. While Haitis physical needs are obvious their deeper spiritual needs can only be seen in those that practice Satan worship & voodoo. Today YWAM continues to respond to the physical and spiritual needs of individuals like Ernso in Haiti and to the many refugees who have crossed the Dominican border. I am excited to travel to Haiti and Dominican Republic because I have been there before, but I spent my vacation there on the nicer, more privileged side of the island. To not only be able to see what really ails the people but to actually help them with that would be a great opportunity. I look forward to tackling things in the areas of basic needs, hunger and equal rights. Dominicans have a history with the Haitians as something a lot less than allies. To be able to, along with my team, come as a spiritual mediator between the two and give them something to have in common, which is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, would be a grand accomplishment. In the areas of hunger and basic needs, me and the people on the team are fully prepared to satisfy their hunger with the help of systems like rain catchment tanks that would provide clean water, and the growing of food through aquaponics. Spiritual hunger is also an inherent issue that would be confronted on our outreach. Im currently in a 12-week process where I am being schooled in how to reach out to the unreached, and help those who need help. What Ive learned so far from this process has helped me greatly in my walk with God. In only the first two weeks my faith has taken a huge step forward. It all started with the very first week of teaching, which was on hearing the voice of God. This course isn't purely spiritual, however. It's very academic as well, with very legitimate Bible study and equipping us to answer some of the toughest faith based questions. I know that God is not calling me to do this alone. Together, with your prayers, we will bring the hope of Christ to this desperate people - Even children who have been found to have a second chance in life. So this is what I am asking; would you, my friends and family, take time out to pray for my team and I as we go to Haiti and the Dominican Republic?
