(ii) cytoplasm I ground cytoplasm I cytosol
b -Removal of hydrogen ions,

c Removal of carbon dioxide
d (i) inner membrane of mitochondrion/ cristae
(ii)
- Oxidative Phosphorylation is a process which occurs in the ETS d.uring
aerobic respiration
- in which ATPs are synthesized from ADP and inorganic phosphate
- the process occurs in the inner membrane of the
mitochondria/mitochondrial cristae
- hydrogen atoms are transferred/ transported by hydrogen carriers such
as NAD from the Krebs cycle to the respiratory chain whereby
hydrogen carriers will transfer them along the chain
- the hydrogen atoms then split into protons and electrons and they are
transferred by electron carriers.
- At the end of the chain, protons and electrons recombine with oxygen to
produce water molecule (catalysed by cytochrome oxidase)/ the final
hydrogen acceptor is oxygen and water is produced
- ATP is synthesized during oxidative phosphorylation due to the driving
force from the flow of protons back to the matrix _to with
electrons to produce hydrogen atoms
