Memo
To: From: cc: Date: Re: Raye Robinson Darlene Gaines LME Media & Technology Committee October 2, 2013 2013 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric

After completing the GLMA & GLA 2013 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric, I would like to share the findings as they relate to our media center. There are three levels of proficiency-basic, proficient, and exemplary for the five categories and nineteen target indicators. I have included a link to this rubric at the conclusion of this memo. In category onestudent achievement and instructions, our media center has a level of proficient in all six of the target indicators. I will be working diligently to ensure that we move from proficient in all these areas to exemplary in a timely manner. Category two-staffing , is an area that we have little to no control over due to the recent budget woes of the county. Due to budget deficits, we scored basic in both of the indicators that focused on a certified person being in the media center all day, every day and the employing of a part-time media assistant. Even though, I am in the media center full-time, there are occasions that I have to go to a classroom or leave the building for a meeting. In these instances, there may be a person in the media center, but they may not be certified. To address this basic rating, I am including a plan of action for insuring that the media center is manned at all times by volunteers. With the facilities, access, and resources of category three, we scored proficient in the area of flexible scheduling due to media center not being accessible in the evening at this time. I am including an action plan to address this to aide us in being exemplary in this area. We also scored proficient in the area of GALILEO use. We were exemplary in the other areas that dealt with space, streaming video, whiteboards, electronic distribution, resources, and OPAC. Category 4 relates to administrative support of which we scored exemplary in all five to the target indicators. The indicators dealt with the building and county level of support for the library media and media specialists. In category 5-staff development, we scored proficient in the indicator of staff developments for the media specialist and the implementing of staff developments for teachers by the media specialist. In order for the rating to be exemplary, I plan to attend state or national conferences, provide a needs assessment at the beginning of the year for teachers in order to design staff developments. I will also make myself available to provide individual assistance to teachers concerning technology and the curriculum and will also assist any teacher that needs assistance in securing resources for further educational studies.
