José Cabrera asume la alcaldía

El alcalde de San Roque, Fernando
Palma, firmó un decreto en el que cede
la alcaldía de manera accidental desde
mañana martes 14 al segundo teniente
de alcalde, José Cabrera, en sustitución
de José Antonio Ledesma, que debe
ausentarse por motivos personales.
Palma tenía previsto ausentarse de la
ciudad por espacio de unos días por
motivos personales, por lo que cedió la
alcaldía la primer teniente de alcalde el
pasado 1 de julio.
El decreto de nombramiento de José
Cabrera como alcalde accidental entra
en vigor a partir de mañana 14 de
julio.
Esta sustitución en la alcaldía estaba
prevista desde el mes pasado, ya
que Ledesma tenía compromisos
ineludibles para estos días, por lo que
el alcalde, Fernando Palma, ya había
dejado firmado el decreto antes de su
marcha.

of San Roque
The mayor of San Roque, Fernando Palma,
has signed a decree handing the role of
acting mayor to second deputy mayor, Jose
Cabrera as the deputy mayor, Jose Antonio
Ledesma, who has been fulfilling the role of
acting mayor since July, 1st will be absent
due to unavoidable commitments.
Cabrera’s appointment came into effect
from July, 14th and he will occupy the post
whilst the mayor Fernando Palma is away
from San Roque.

Gibraltar: Birds give thumbs up to Mediterranean

woodland project
A project to create a Mediterranean
woodland at the northern entrance
to the Garden has been given the
seal of approval by birds!
The area north of the succulent
beds, which stretches along the
eastern edge of Grand Parade,
has been gradually modified by
selective planting over the past 18
years. Native woodland species
have been planted and, as these
have grown, exotic trees and
shrubs have been selectively
removed, always leaving the
wooded character of the area
intact.
So far, native Mediterranean
plants to have become established
include Narrow-leaved Ash,
Mirbech’s Oak, Cork Oak, Round-
leaved Oak and Strawberry Tree.
False Acacias, Trees of Heaven,
Lantana and Myoporum have been
progressively removed. The area
is given minimum management
and the ground cover is allowed to
develop as naturally as possible.
There are still a good number
of years to go before all the
exotics are replaced, but a recent
development has encouraged the
team involved in the project. The
area has this year been chosen
by a pair of Spotted Flycatchers,
which successfully nested there
- for the first time in Gibraltar,
fledging at least two young over
this last weekend - as reported
on the Gibraltar Ornithological &
Natural History Society website
(www.gonhs.org). These
woodland edge birds seem to
have accepted the changes as
a positive move towards their
natural habitat!
In recent years Robins have also
been present through the summer
in the same area, and recently
Bonelli’s Warblers, another
woodland species, have been
noted there too.
In another part of the gardens
the nightly presence of Tawny
Owls also suggests nesting of
this species may be taking place
within the Gardens. The increase
in the number of bird species
nesting within the Alameda is
most welcome and seems to be a
sign that management techniques
employed
are benefiting the natural
communities of the area.

para la protección de la cabra montesa

ha firmado con la Sociedad
de Cazadores Los Pinsapos
y Urbaser un convenio
para la protección de las
cabras montesas existentes
en su término municipal,
concretamente los parajes
de Sierra Bermeja y Sierra
Crestellina.
En el acto han estado presentes
la alcaldesa de Casares,
Antonia Morera, el concejal
de Medio Ambinete, Pepe
Carrasco, Andrés Chacón,
presidente de la Sociedad de
Caza Los Pinzados, y por parte
de Urbaser, Oscar Naranjo,
delegado de Servicios de la
Planta de RSU de Casares.
Durante la firma, la alcaldesa
se ha referido a la importancia
de la protección de los
ejemplares de esta especie
de cabra que en un futuro
podrían ser una atracción
turística para el municipio.

Verbena Santa Ana Las obras del parque municipal de Villa

El 26 de Julio se celebra la Fiesta
patronal en Manilva en honor a
su Patrona Santa Ana. En ella los
vecinos del pueblo junto con los
turistas disfrutan de desfiles de
carrozas, música, bailes y espectáculos
musicales hasta la madrugada. Entre
los actos programados se encuentran
los siguientes:
8:00h. Alegres dianas y pasacalles con
lanzamiento de cohetes acompañados
de la Banda Municipal de Música
que recorrerán las distintas calles de
Manilva.
Por la tarde Santa Misa en honor de la
patrona cantada por el Coro Parroquial
Santa Ana. A continuación saldrá en
procesión por las calles de Manilva
acompañada por la Banda Municipal
de Música.
22:00h. Entrega de trofeos de los
diferentes torneos y concursos. Música
y baile en la Plaza a cargo de las
orquestas “Latidos” y “A Compás”.
Matilde han empezado
E Parque Villa Matilde supondrá
la creación de una zona verde de
más de 6.000 metros cuadrados, con
ornamentación tropical y con un fin
didáctico, todas las especies arbóreas
irán acompañadas de una descripción a
modo de jardín botánico con finalidad
educativa. Asimismo, el proyecto
contempla la creación de un parque
infantil y un lago central con un géiser,
entre otros muchos elementos.
Dichas obras están financiadas con
fondos de los Planes de Concertación
Provincial de la Diputación Provincial
de Málaga y supondrá una inversión
aproximada de 400.000 euros.
Además, permitirá contratar en torno
a seis trabajadores de este sector tan
castigado por la crisis económica.

Santa Ana celebrations

On July 26th Manilva celebrates its patron
saint Santa Ana with a day of festivities
in which locals and visitors can enjoy
processions, music and dancing until the
early hours of the morning.
Here is the programme for the day:
8 am. Early start with the Manilva Municipal
Band band performing in the streets of the
town accompanied by rockets!
In the afternoon there is a Mass at the
Santa Ana church accompanied by the
Santa Ana Choir followed by a procession
of the Saint through the streets of Manilva
accompanied by the Manilva Town Band.
10 pm. After a presentation of awards
and trophies for various tournaments and
contests there will be music and dancing
in the street to the sounds of the groups
“Latidos” and “A Compas” until the early
hours of the morning.
Work begins on Villa Matilde Park
Works have begun on the 6,000 square
metre Villa Matilde Park being constructed
around the old Villa Matilde situated on the
Sabinillas-Manilva road.
The project will feature landscaping and
the planting of a botanical garden with a
range of palms and other tropical plants,
all of which will have identification signs.
The 400,000 euro project is being funded
by the Provincial authorities, and is being
carried out by the company Construcciones
Mena y Barranco.

euros con la eliminación del vehículo oficial El Mercado del Mar
La alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia
Muñoz, ha comunicado que dentro
de la política municipal de ahorro y
contención del gasto se ha decidido
rescindir el contrato de alquiler por
el que hasta ahora se mantenía el
coche de la marca Audi modelo A6
que servía de vehículo oficial para el
Ayuntamiento de Manilva.
Muñoz ha explicado que esta
eliminación del vehículo oficial supone
un ahorro de 67.200 €, a los que habría
que añadir los 7.000 € que se entregan
en concepto de fianza. Así, el coste
mensual de este coche de alta gama
era de 1.400 € al mes y el contrato se
firmaba por cuatro años.
La alcaldesa ha señalado que aunque
supone la pérdida de un servicio
con el que contaba ella misma y los
concejales del equipo de gobierno
para cuando necesitan acudir a alguna
reunión oficial en otro lugar fuera de
la población, la situación actual de
las arcas municipales han llevado al
equipo de gobierno que ella preside
a adoptar esta decisión entendiendo
que es la más correcta que se puede
adoptar en estos tiempos.

Town Hall gives up its official car

Manilva Town Hall has terminated the
lease of the Audi A6 which served as the
Ayuntamiento’s official vehicle.
The Mayoress, Antonia Muñoz, has stated
that the elimination of this expense will
save the council coffers some 67,200
euros, taking into account the 7,000 euro
deposit and a four year contract at 1,400
euros per month.
Whilst it will be a loss to the image of the
municipality as the vehicle was used when
the mayoress or her councillors needed
to attend official engagements outside
the municipality, the current state of the
municipalities funds makes this facility an
expensive luxury and so this decision has
been taken.

Local British man found dead
in pool
A 71 year old British resident was found dead in a private
swimming pool over the weekend.
His body was discovered by a neighbour on the Buenos
Noches urbanisation, Estepona, on Saturday, and it would
appear that he had been dead for some days.
Police are investigating the cause of death.

La Hermandad del Santo Cristo de la Veracruz de
Estepona celebra el sábado 18 de julio, a partir de las
diez de la noche, la IX Noche de Coplas Gaditanas,
en el patio del antiguo colegio Víctor de la Serna de
Estepona.
Este festival se ha convertido en una cita obligada
cada verano para los muchos aficionados al Arte del
Carnaval, no sólo para residentes y turistas, sino que
su fama está alcanzando a las provincias de Cádiz,
Málaga, Sevilla, Granada y Almería, entre otras.
El cartel está compuesto por tres agrupaciones que
suman importantes premios en el concurso del
Gran Teatro Falla de Cádiz, en las modalidades de
chirigota y comparsa. El festival será presentado
por Juanjo Macías y comenzará con la actuación
de la chirigota “Salón de Belleza: El Tijeritas”. Esta
chirigota ha conseguido el primer premio en los dos
últimos concursos del Gran Teatro Falla de Cádiz
(En 2008 se llamaban “Las Pito-Risas”).
En segundo lugar actuará la comparsa “La Pensadora
Gaditana”, segundo premio en el Falla de Cádiz.
Y para cerrar llegará la chirigota “Los Enteraos”,
tercer premio en el Falla, tras conseguir varios
primeros premios con “Lo que diga mi mujer”, “Los
Borrachos” ...

la Cerveza
Estepona acogerá del 16 al 19 de julio la I Gran Fiesta
de la Cerveza, trasladando al Paseo Marítimo de
Estepona el famoso Oktoberfest de Munich.
Para el evento, organizado por las empresas Factoría
de Sueños y One 2 One, en colaboración con la
delegación municipal de Fiestas, se instalarán en
el Paseo Marítimo más de una decena de carpas y
grandes mesas de madera, al estilo bávaro, para
disfrutar de platos de la cocina típica alemana,
como el codillo con chucrut, salchichas y fricadelas,
todo esto, regado por grandes jarras de cerveza de
Bavaria.
Para aumentar la diversión, están previstas
numerosas actuaciones musicales, animaciones y
concursos.
El horario será de 20:00 a 2.00 horas.
Estepona holds Beer Festival
From 16th to 19th July the I Grand Beer Festival will
bring to Estepona’s Paseo Maritimo a flavour of Munich’s
famous Oktoberfest.
The event, organised by Factoría de Sueños and One
2 One, in collaboration with the local authorities will
see the installation of a dozen marquees and traditional
Bavarian style wooden tables, where visitors can enjoy
typical German fare such as pork knuckles with saurkraut,
sausages and fricadelas, all washed down with steins of
Bavarian beer.
At the same time their will be various musical performances
and other entertainment.
The event runs from 8 pm to 2 am each night.

noche “Al fresco” de music hall, ópera y clásicos al
estilo “Il Divo”, por parte de los más populares y
aclamados artistas de la Costa.
El tenor Galés Stephen Lloyd-Morgan; denominado
como la última sensación que barre la Costa,
encabezará el show de dos horas de duración y
está encantado de estar acompañado por los nuevos
Tres Divos, los cuales han conseguido gran éxito.

The Summer Event, to be held inside the magnificent El Castillo

major highlight of this summer’s local entertainment programme,

and ‘Il Divo’ style classics, from some of the Coast’s most
popular and acclaimed entertainers.
Welsh Tenor Stephen Lloyd-Morgan; dubbed ‘the latest singing
sensation to sweep the coast’, will headline the two hour show
and is delighted to be joined by the newly formed Tres Divos;
who themselves have already achieved great success. Their
recent performances include the opening of Jean Christophe
Novelli’s exclusive new restaurant in Puerto Banus, and at other
top venues - Finca Cortesin, Hotel Puente Romano and The
Marbella Beach Club.
Tres Divos combine and harmonise the fantastic Tenor voices

¿Qué es el vino Rosé, un vino blanco
o un vino tinto?
La palabra “Rosé” viene del Francés: rosé, que significa
rosado, y como tal estos vinos tienen un color típico al vino
tinto, sin embargo, sólo un poco para convertirlos
en rosados. El color rosado puede ir desde el color
anaranjado pálido hasta el color vivo amoratado,
dependiendo de la uva y de las técnicas de utilización.
Un método utilizado es cuando la uva roja es aplastada
y la piel se deja en contacto con el jugo durante un
corto periodo de tiempo, normalmente dos o tres días.
Entonces la uva es prensada y la piel es desechada en
lugar de dejarla en contacto para su fermentación
(como ocurre con el vino tinto). La Piel contiene
bastante sabor, color y otros componentes, por eso
se hace así para asimilarlo al vino blanco, cuánto más
tiempo pase la piel en contacto con el jugo, más
intenso será el color del vino.
Otro método utilizado para hacer el Rosé, es la
utilización de un derivado de los vinos tintos
utilizando una técnica llamada Saignée o el
sangrado de cubas. Cuando un viñatero decide dar
más color a un vino tinto, parte del jugo rosado
del mosto debe ser eliminado al principio del
proceso. El vino tinto al permanecer en la cuba
durante más tiempo se hace más intenso en el
color, ya que el volumen del jugo en el mosto se
reduce, y el mosto se hace más concentrado; el
jugo rosado que se elimina puede ser fermentado
por separado para producir rosé.
El último método es el mezclado, que
simplemente mezcla el vino tinto con el vino
blanco, este método no es utilizado mucho y
generalmente no es muy recomendado.

(Frenete a la Estación de Autobuses de
Portillo), actuación de los grupos de Música

Moon” de Málaga y “MokeMan”.
Como actividad simultánea hemos

Chambao es una banda de música flamenca-
electrónica, conocida como Flamenco Chill.
Originales de Málaga (Andalucía, España)
su música mezcla los sonidos del flamenco
y palos (formas) con música electrónica.
Según el dialecto andaluz, un "Chambao"
es una tienda de campaña improvisada para
protegerse del sol y la brisa de la tarde en la
playa, utilizada normalmente en la noche de
San Juan.

Chambao is a flamenco-electronic band
originally from Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, known
for a Flamenco Chill sound that fuses flamenco
sounds and palos with electronic music. The
name of the band is taken from an improvised
form of beach tent that is constructed as a
means of sheltering from the wind and sun.
Many people will recognise their song Ahí
Estás Tú used in a tourist promotion advert for

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través
de la delegación municipal de Cultura,
informa que la localidad acogerá el ‘I
Encuentro Internacional Americana
Costa del Sol’, que tendrá lugar del 10 al
15 de Agosto.
El I Encuentro será una cita musical
con actuaciones de iconos de este
género como Miguel Ríos, The Tragic
Company, Rebeca Jiménez, Ramblin
Men, Ramón Arroyo, Danni Leigh,
The Human Zoo, Los SilverTones, Los
Rebeldes y Pete Anderson, entre otros.
Durante seis jornadas, el festival tomará
distintos enclaves de Estepona con
conciertos, conferencias, exposiciones,
actividades lúdicas, gastronomía y una
concentración y exhibición, el sábado
a las 12:00 horas, en la Plaza de Toros,
de uno de los principales símbolos de la
cultura americana: la Harley Davidson.
Americana Music es un concepto musical
que empezó a introducirse en la década
de los 40 para asimilar en su conjunto los
estilos básicos de la música popular en

On Tuesday 8th September a charity golf competition will be held at Estepona Golf
in aid of Age Concern. The competition will be a 2-ball better ball,
Stableford with a shotgun start.

By coach to Tarifa, the fast ferry getting us to North Africa in approximately
35/40 minutes. The tour will include the Caves of Hercules, followed by
a typical Moroccan lunch (which includes live music, belly dancing, etc.)
After lunch, we escort you to the Medina (old part of town), Souk (shops
and market) and Kasbah (fortress), with time for shopping. Our guide will
accompany you at all times. If time allows we visit a herbalist and take a
short refreshment stop before before boarding our ferry back to Spain.

Ronda en tren (la vuelta en autobús)
