PLANNING PROJECT WORKS

Project Work Scope components are mainly:a) Work breakdown structure (WBS) Decomposes project work scope into deliverables & splits up deliverables into various levels such as sub-projects or task groups, tasks, work packages & activities. b) Development of detailed designs, drawings & specifications- They provide the characteristics features & modes of realisation of the deliverables.

PLANNING PROJECT WORKS(Contd)

c) Estimation & structuring of quantities of work- The Bill of Quantities (BOQ) coupled with the Statement-of-Costs (SOC) become the project work scope baseline. d) Production method statements

WBS- TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION

a) Level 1- Sub-project level- An independent , deliverables & product requiring processing of multi-task having large volume of work . b) Level 2- Task level- An identifiable & deliverable major work containing one or more work packages. c) Level 3- Work-package level- A sizeable, identifiable, measurable, cost-able & controllable work item/package of activities. d) Level 4- Identifiable lower-level job, operation, or process, which consumes time & possibly resources.

TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS

1.a) Fixed price or lump sum b) Fixed price with escalation price adjustment c) Fixed price with incentive targets d) Fixed price with privatised infrastructure 2. a) Cost-plus percentage fee b) Cost-plus fixed fee c) Cost-plus guaranted maximum d) Cost-plus guaranted maximum & shared savings e) Cost-plus incentive (award fee) f) Cost & cost sharing 3. Resource & service procurement

CONTRACTUAL ARRANGEMENTS- Categories

i) Build-only contracts- Further classified into Lumpsum; Measurement & Cost reimbursement contracts ii) Engineering Procurement & Construction contracts- These are package-deal turnkey-type fixed price contracts that can include design, resources procurement, construction & commissioning of the proposed facility. Mostly in large size jobs & specialised industrial plants iii) Build-own-transfer contracts-This emerging approach uses concept of BOT ( Built Operate Transfer); BOO ( Build own Operate); BOOT ( Build Own Operate Transfer)- Specially for speedy implementation of Infrastructural works.
