Wind and PV in Germany on Windy and Sunny Thursday October 3, 2013

On Thursday October 3, 2013, combined wind and solar PV power peaked at 59.1 % of the [Wind + PV +
conventional > 100 MW] hourly production near noon. Wind and PV delivered a total of more than 436 GWh (69 %
from wind and 31 % from PV) or 36.4 % of the daily production including from conventional power plants larger
than 100 MW (25.2 % from wind and 11.2 % from PV). Conventional power plants larger than 100 MW had to
provide as low as 23 GW near noon. This low demand from large conventional power plants had an impact on the
European electricity price index ELIX (common to Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland) with only 2 c/kWh
at 2:00 pm (as low as at 6:00 am), and with a peak value of only 5.4 /MWh at 20:00 pm
