CADD Manual
Version 1.3
3. Overview
The purpose of the Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Manual is to describe the procedures to be followed in the production of electronic drawings and to ensure uniformity of both data generated using internal systems or data supplied to Department of Infrastructure and Planning, Construction Division (DPI CD) from external sources.
3.1. Scope
Many documents used within the Construction Division are prepared with Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software. The DPI - CD generally requires all documents prepared on its behalf to be in electronic format. The CADD Data Standards should be used in conjunction with this Manual for a specific work type.
3.2. Exclusion
Exception to PAWA (Power and Water Authority) Projects and Designs which has accepted the standards drawing procedures from PAWA, the drawing procedures is available on-line at;
http://www.powerwater.com.au/powerwater/business/connectioncode/pdfs_doc s/standard_drawings/procedures/procedures.html

4. Media
The DPI - CD's current CADD computing environment consists of Windows XP workstation systems,
4.1. Type
CADD data is to be supplied on a media type agreed to by the issuing office. The media type must be detailed on an accompanying CADD Data Transmission Record. Hardware compression on devices must not be used under any circumstances. Accepted media types are: CD/DVD compliant with ISO 9660 Level I conformance. Electronic Mail (e-mail). Attachments are to be encoded using MIME. E-mail size is restricted by internet mails size (5 Mb) and unrestricted within NTG LAN network. This includes the mail message and any accompanying attachments. It is the Contractor's responsibility to supply data on a media type appropriate to the DPI - CD's system.
4.2. Format
CADD data is to be supplied in media format agreed to by the issuing office. This must be detailed on an accompanying CADD Data Transmission Record. Accepted media formats are: MS-DOS Version 3.0 or greater file format. Only media formatted using the MS-DOS format command is acceptable. Media, which is formatted by other commands such as drvspace and dblspace, are unacceptable. It is the Contractor's responsibility to supply data in a media format appropriate to the DPI - CD's system.
4.3. Compression
CADD data may be supplied in compressed format agreed to by the issuing office. This must be detailed on an accompanying CADD Data Transmission Record. Hardware compression on devices must not be used under any circumstances. Accepted compression methods are Compressed files produced by Winzip (*.zip) are acceptable. Winzip Version 8.0 is the DPI - CDs current version at this issue date. It is the Contractor's responsibility to supply data using a compression format appropriate to the DPI - CD's system.
4.4. Viruses
All media shall be checked and free of any VIRUSES.

5. Data
5.1. CADD Packages
The DPI - CD uses a range of CADD packages. The data is to be supplied in a format suitable to the receiving CADD package. Currently supported CADD packages are: AutoCAD 2008 A three-dimensional modeling package used for producing mechanical, structural, electrical and architectural drawings.
Architectural Desktop 2008 A three-dimensional modeling package used only for the generation of building and house plans. Autodesk VIZ Render 2007 A three-dimensional modeling, rendering and animation package used for creating photorealistic visualization of building and house plans. Unveil the plan to clients before its built. MicroStation 2004 Edition (08.05.02.35). A three dimensional computer aided design package, used mainly for civil and hydraulic works. Edition (08.05.02.59 ). Object-oriented software for modeling roads, bridges, survey, water, drainage and sewerage. It offers intelligent components that promote fast, dynamic design and facilitate design modifications. Again, it used mainly for civil and hydraulic works. Edition ( 08.05.02.25). Comprehensive imaging software for image mapping, visualization and raster-to-vector conversion. It used for both production and visualization. Version 4.1. A roadway design software tool for analyzing and evaluate vehicle maneuvers, projects such as intersections, roundabouts or bus terminals.
Descartes 2004
AutoTURN
5.2. Format
CADD data is to be supplied in data format agreed to by the issuing office and compatible with currently used versions of the supported CADD packages listed above. The data format used must be detailed on an accompanying CADD Data Transmission Record. Acceptable formats are:
DATA FORMAT
AutoCAD drawing.
DESCRIPTION
AutoCAD's binary drawing file format (.dwg). AutoCADs current supported versions.
AutoCAD Drawing exchange Format. (DXF) An ASCII file format creates AutoDesk's proprietary exchange format. The implementation of this format may vary across packages possibly causing some incompatibilities. If this format is to be used it is the Contractor's responsibility to supply data compatible with the DPI - CD's CADD packages. IGES Initial Graphics Exchange Specification. A public domain, ANSI standard, interchange file format. MicroStations binary drawing file format (.dgn). Preferable V8 2004 Edition format.
MicroStation design
Notes that all data format for Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural sections shall be AutoCAD (e.g. *.dwg or dxf) format, and all data format for Civil, Hydraulic and Survey sections shall be MicroStation (e.g. *.dgn) format. It is the data suppliers responsibility to supply data in a format agreed to meet the DPI Page 6/ 37

CDs standards. CADD drawings produced by other than the nominated CADD software shall be translated into appropriate above discipline format. The contractor shall be responsible for the correctness of the translation process in all aspects to meet the CDs standards. Any cost of processing required due to incorrect and or poor translation and or drafting will be borne by the contractor.

NB. Where lines are required to be shown as background information or reduce density hatching, colour 8 (grey) for AutoCad (or colour 9 for MicroStation) should be used. AutoCAD users have an additional grey scales to be used, all of the shades of grey having some percentage of screening value assigned to that colour. This would include pen 255, 254, 253, 252, 251, 250, 9 and 8 having screening of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 percent to each of the colour. These plot tables together with other DPI-CDs plot tables can be found in \\Plmhwymfp01\Business\CAD\Acad\Plot tables directory. When plotting an A1 size sheet at A3 the line widths should be halved (the reduction factor when reducing A1 sheets to A3 size sheets).

In the case of necessary to show lines or filled area in lighter colour (e.g. Contour lines, to show text under filled area) on Monochrome printout, the CD has reserved colour 9 and 175 for this purpose. AutoCAD users (Architectural, Structural, Electrical, and Mechanical sections) wont be using different colour tables since the application uses only one standard colour table. 8.8. Font
DPI -CD requires true Type Font Arial be used when presenting concept and detail design drawings. For other presentations, the following criteria should be met: The font is vector based. General form of characters to be as per ISO 3098/1 type B upright. Cell size / aspect ratio to be 1. Characters to be monospaced. To comply with these requirements it is suggested to use the fonts shown in Table 2.1.3 with the nominated applications. For all text unless otherwise specified. Page 13/ 37
