FIRST WORLD WAR [1914 1918]

CAUSES: 1. Aggressive Nationalism:- Europe saw the emergence of aggressive nationalism which generated a sense of superiority among the people. They had grown proud country considered it a sacred duty to fight for the country whether yes or No. Colonies - considered - prestige.

2. System of Rival Alliances:Towards - end 19th century, number of countries allied with Europe to safeguard economic and political interests. Germany - formed Triple Alliance Austro Hungarian Empire and Italy. England, France, Russia - Triple Entente. Europe divided into 2 hostile camps. 3. Armament Race:Mutual suspicious - Rise to Arms Race. Every nation in Europe built vast reserves of arms and ammunitions. Country competed - to modernize respective war machineries increase the strength of the army. 4. Immediate cause:murdered by a Serbian. RESULTS: Germany was defeated at Marne in 1918 Turkey, Austria & Bulgaria surrendered. Kaiser William II was forced to give up his position. Germany signed treaty of Versailles. Thus war ended. To prevent the wars league of nations was established. Millions of people including civilians died in the war and many were wounded. Towns, cities, roads, dams, bridges, railways and factories were destroyed in large scale. Economic depression was caused in 1929. Loss of life, bloodshed & destruction was caused.

THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 1945


CAUSE: Imperialist and expansionist policies of & Germany and Italy. League of Nations could not check the aggressive onslaught of these expansionist. No power cause forward to resist against Hitler and Hussalins. Germany and Russia partitioned Poland among themselves. France & England declared war on Germany. Japan Entered into defensive alliance with Germany and Italy.
