Dual Technology
Breakthrough Technology The Watt Stopper patented Dual Technology combines passive infrared and ultrasonic technologies into one unit. This unique technology provides occupancy sensor coverage to building spaces which have been too troublesome for single technology sensors. The combination of PIR and ultrasonic allows the sensor to take advantage of the best features of both technologies while eliminating the weaknesses. The result is sensors with greater sensitivity and coverage. Dual technology sensors function by turning lighting on when both PIR and ultrasonic technologies detect occupancy. Once lighting is on, detection from only one technology is needed to keep them on. Other configurations are possible which need only one technology to trigger or both technologies to hold lighting on. The Dual Sensing Verification Principle (DSVP) combines the strengths of passive infrared and ultrasonic technologies to provide great coverage and high energy savings. Also included is The Watt Stoppers ASIC technology which increases reliability and immunity to RFI and EMI. Type of Coverage The combination of PIR and ultrasonic technologies allows Watt Stoppers Dual Technology to achieve greater coverage possibilities including 100% coverage cut-off. The technology is designed to sense occupancy around partitions and obstacles but can be angled to not see out doors so that it has complete coverage of only the area needed.

Eliminates False Triggers

Technology False On False Off
Passive Infrared Unlikely Possible The combined use of ultrasonic and PIR technologies Ultrasonic Possible Unlikely also gives the DT-200 increased sensitivity and practiDual Technology None None cally eliminates false triggers. In the standard configuration it requires both technologies to trigger lights on and either one to hold lights on. The user has control options to set the sensor to each specific need. Sensing of both PIR and ultrasonic to turn lighting on will eliminate false ons while sensing of either to hold lights on will eliminate false offs.

The lack of false triggering not only cuts energy waste because lights are never turned on in an unoccupied room, but it also cuts out the need for service calls to electricians. The reduction of calls to contractors and maintenance personnel enhances acceptance by users and instills confidence in the specifier Features for Increased Energy Savings The Watt Stoppers Dual Technology has a separate light level output (in addition to the occupancy output) for building areas that receive natural light. When natural light levels are adequate, Dual Technology sensors will initially hold all (or levels of) lighting systems off. When there is not an adequate amount of natural light, the sensors will turn on the daylighting portion of lighting. The sensors also have an isolated relay contact that can interface with HVAC, EMS or other control systems. An additional increase to energy savings can be achieved by reducing the time delay setting. This can be done with Dual Technology because the sensor can be set to maximum sensitivity without having the threat of false triggers. For example, the DT-200's time delay can be comfortably set to a time-delay of 5 minutes, saving 10-20 minutes compared with other sensors.
