AP-1X and AP-2X SWEEP LOSS DETECTION CIRCUIT EXPLANATION

(See Sweep Loss Detection Circuit for details)
The key component in the Sweep Loss Detection circuit is Q0018 and Q0022. These transistors are normally biased off. When either base voltage becomes 0.6V below the emitter, it will be turned on, causing the +12V to be
applied to two different circuits, the H Blk circuit of IC501 and the Y Out circuit of IC502 which in turn biases
off Q3023. Either Horizontal Sweep Loss detection Q0018 or Vertical Sweep Loss detection Q0022 turning on,
will activate the Sweep Loss circuit.

CONCERNING THE SWEEP LOSS CIRCUIT

There are two factors that can cause Q0018 or Q0022 to activate; loss of Vertical and/or Horizontal deflection
which is sensed by monitoring H and V Blk pulses.

Loss of Vertical Blanking (V Blk)

The Vertical pulse at the base of Q0024 switches O0024 on and off at the vertical rate. This discharges C0051
sufficiently enough to prevent the base of Q0023 from going high to turn it on and activating Q0022.
When the 24 Vp/p positive vertical blanking pulse is missing from C0052 to the base of Q0024, the transistor
will turn off, which will cause the collector to pull up high through R0213. C0051 charges up through R0213.
This in turn will cause Q0023 to turn on because its base pulls up high, creating an increase of current flow from
emitter to collector. This will increase the voltage drop across R0211. The junction of R0210 and R0185, which
is supplied pull up voltage from the 12V supply. This increase of current flow through R0211 will pull the base
low and bias on Q0022 and the events described in Sweep Loss Activation Circuit above will occur.

Loss of Horizontal Blanking (H Blk)

The Horizontal pulse at the base of Q0020 switches O0020 on and off at the horizontal rate. This discharges
C0046 sufficiently enough to prevent the base of Q0019 from going high which would turn it on and activate
Q0018.
When the 11.6 Vp/p positive horizontal blanking pulse is missing from C0047 to the base of Q0020, it will be
turned off, which will cause the collector to go high through D0034, R0166, R0185 as the +12V charges C0046 .
This in turn will cause Q0035 to turn on because its base is pulled up high when zener ZD0020 fires. When
Q0019 turns on, an increase of current flow from emitter to collector through R0170. This increase of current
flow through R0170 will bias on Q0018 and the events described in Sweep Loss Activation Circuit above will
occur.

1. SPOT ACTIVATION CIRCUIT

When the relay driver Q0001 turns off, the relay voltage raises to the source voltage. The A 12V is applied to the
anode of D0036, forward biasing it. This voltage arrives at the base of Q0019 turning it on. The drops the collector voltage and in turn drops the base voltage of Q0018 turning it on. This action activates the Horizontal Sweep
Loss circuitry Q0018 which then Mutes the output from the Rainforest IC IC501. This is done to prevent CRT
burns.
(See Audio Video Mute Circuit for details)
