Trust based free trade & govt. policies

UN estimates > 15% of the worlds population is undernouris hed, with a majority living in the developing countries

Trade facilitates food to move from places of surplus to places of deficit

Only 15% of the worlds calories cross international borders, but its free movement is critical

Disruptions in the food supply chain cause shortages and price volatility

Food vs Fuel; Do biofuel mandates make sense?

If every country set a goal of food selfsufficiency, the world would have less access to affordable food.

# 3

Harmonization of food safety standards

Leverage public, private and multilateral resources within the ASEAN region to agree on a common set of rules that are science based and aligned with CODEX standards.

To move food efficiently, predictable, science-based global food safety standards are necessary to manage risk, provide transparency and ensure accountability.

Harmonizing standards can help address the problem of food waste and correct the lapses and gaps in food safety systems that prevent food from being safely consumed.

Ensuring the safety of food as it is produced and transported is critical to achieving greater food security and builds the brand of Philippines & ASEAN agriculture as a safe and reliable supplier to the world
