3. The valve is unidirectional it must be installed with the pressure which push the knife on
the seat and seal ring. The flow direction is user responsibility. Please assemble the valve
following the arrow on the valve body .

METAL SEAT KNIFE GATE VALVE
Valves Design & Testing : AS PER MSS - SP 81
MSS - SP 81 has an allowable leakage rate metal seat only of 40 cc per inch of diameter, per minute at 40 psi pressure.
Maximum allowable leakage of 0.6 GPM when tested with water at 40 psi applied in the normal flow direction.
For Soft Seated Knife Gate valves : No visible leakage when tested with water at 40 psi. Above 24" Size and Renewable seat
design Knife Gate valves is not covered in MSS-SP 81

10. PACKING REPLACEMENT:
1. Check your pipe is without pressure and close valve.
2. Disconnect the gate (1) and stem.
3. Unscrew the nuts of the packing gland (2) and take it off (8)
4. Take out the old braids and O-ring (5) (6) and clean the inside (7)
5. Put the new braids and O-ring alternating the joints (see fig.A)
6. Put the packing gland (8) and its nuts (2)
7. Fix the stem on the gate (1)
8. Put the pipe under pressure while tightening the nuts of the
packing gland (2) until you get tightness.
11. REPLACEMENT OF THE VALVE SEAT
1. Take the valve out.
2. Take the operator out.
3. Take the gate of (1)
4. Take the Stainless Steel ring off (4)
5. Take the used gasket (3) and clean its place.
6. Put the new shaped gasket (3) in the place.
7. Assemble the support ring (4) hammering it on
its place (see fig. B)
8. Put the gate back without damaging the seat(1)
9. Fix the operator and make few openings and
closings before replacing the valve on the pipe
