Proposal What is your story ?

The story which I have chose to try to tell in the form of a graphic novel is the story of Hansel and Gretel, it is about a brother and sister whos step mother doesnt like them, so she takes them deep in to the forest to try to loose them. The children find a house made of candy, however a witch lives in this house, and she has other intentions and wants to cook the children. The children kill the witch, find treasure and return home to only their loving father and never go hungry again. What product are you going to make? I plan to produce a graphic novel based around the idea and story of Hansel and Gretel; I want to make the graphic novel have some what of a dark tone to it, I may do this using the language that is on the page or using the images specifically. Who is your audience? The audience that I am aiming for would be young males around the ages of ! "#, this demographic gives the ability to tell a children story whilst implementing some dark aspects. I feel as if this is a good target audience to aim for due to the age range being still young enough to recognise the story and also appreciate the art and the effort put into the graphic novel. The main focus of a graphic novel is of course the art work and how well this conveys the story to the reader, so graphic novel enthusiasts could also be another audience which a product like this could appeal to. What methods will you use to make the product? I will be using a variety of different methods and techni$ues to produce the graphic novel ranging from written work to hand drawn sketches to using a graphics tablet. I will have to write out my script and the basic outline of what will happen, what the focus of the story will be. I have to analyse the story and see what emotions are conveyed within each scene, this way I can appeal to my specific target audience by I will also have to consider what te%t I actually want to include within the novel this could be, what characters say to each other, important narrative information, onomatopoeias, internal dialogues etc etc. I will have to illustrate the scenes first using a story board, story boards are useful as a guide to help plan out how you want each individual scene to look. This is a useful tool also in that you can make any ad&ustments to scenes, characters and such on a new draft of the story boards. I will have to make a rough draft of each scene within the story, this means drawing out each scene and characters, also I will have to decide on a suitable layout and find a nice 'flow to the pages. The 'flow of a graphic novel is important as it helps build a clear picture within the mind of the reader as to what is going on within the story. (nother specific method that I will be using is the possible use of a graphics tablet, I am considering drawing out each scene by hand, scanning them into the computer to use as a template and then digitally reworking the images in

either )hotoshop or illustrator.
