DETAILED SUPPLY SPECIFICATION FOR PIPES 2408 0000 JSS 1320 01 1 Page 9/11 3.7.

RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATION For all API 5L Pipes only, 100% Ultrasonic test is required as minimum on all weld seams (longitudinal and spiral both). Radiographic examination is an acceptable alternative (X-Ray are not mandatory on API 5L). Abbreviated PSL - product specification level SMLS - without a welded seam EW - electric resistance or electric induction welding process for pipe during manufacturing CW - continuous welding process for pipe during manufacturing LFW - low-frequency electric welding process for pipe during manufacturing HFW - high-frequency electric welding process for pipe during manufacturing LW - laser welding process for pipe during manufacturing SAW - submerged-arc welding COW pipe - tubular product having one or two longitudinal seams or one helical seam, produced by a combination of gas metal-arc and submerged-arc welding wherein the gas-metal arc weld bead is not completely removed by the submerged-arc welding passes According to Section 10 of API 5L describes types of inspection and inspection documents, to inspection for PSL 1 and PSL 2pipe 10.2 Specific inspection 10.2.1 inspection frecuency 10.2.1.1 For PSL 1 pipe, the inspection frequency shall be as given in Table 17 Number 28 Type inspection: Non-destructive inspection Type of pipe: SMLS, CW, LFW, HFW, LW, SAW, or COW Frequency of inspection: In accordance with Annex E

10.2.1.2 For PSL 2 pipe, the inspection frequency shall be as given in Table 18 number 28 Type inspection: Non-destructive inspection Type of pipe: SMLS, HFW, SAW, or COW Frequency of inspection: In accordance with Annex E

Annex E Non-destructive inspection for other than sour service or offshore service E.3 Methods of inspection E.3.1 General E.3.1.1 For Grades L210 or A, the weld seams of welded pipe with D 60,3 mm (2.375 in) shall be non-destructively inspected, full length (100 %) for the entire thickness, as given in Table E.1. In addition, the coil/plate end weld in finished helical-seam pipe shall be non-destructively inspected, full length (100 %) for the entire thickness, as given in Table E.1.

E.3.2 Pipe end inspection Welded pipe E.3.2.1 If an automated ultrasonic or electromagnetic inspection system is applied to meet the requirements of E.3.1.1, the weld at any pipe end not covered by the automated inspection system shall be inspected for defects by the manual or semi-automatic ultrasonic angle beam method or by the radiographic method, whichever is appropriate, or such non-inspected pipe end shall be cut off. E.3.2.2 For SAW and COW pipes, the weld at each pipe end for a minimum distance of 200 mm (8.0 in) shall be inspected by the radiographic method..

Conclusion: 1.- Is right 100% Ultrasonic test is required as minimum on all weld seams (longitudinal and spiral both), in accordance to API SPECIFICATION 5L Fourty-fifth Edition (2013) 2. - Verify type of welding process to implement E.3.2.1 or E.3.2.2, in the weld at each pipe end.

DETAILED SUPPLY SPECIFICATION FOR PIPES 2408 0000 JSS 1320 01 1 Page 9/11 3.7. RADIOGRAPHIC EXAMINATION In any case girth welds are used to reach the required length for API 5L, they shall be 100% radiographed. For girth welds UT is not accepted as alternative to radiographic examination Abbreviated Jointer (girth weld) - two or three lengths of pipe coupled or welded together by the manufacturer. According to Section 8 of API 5L 8.11 Jointers 8.11.2 Welded jointers shall be made in accordance with the requirements of Annex A. Annex A Specification for welded jointers A.4 Non-destructive inspection The full length (100 %) of jointer welds shall be non-destructively inspected in accordance with Annex E or Annex K, whichever is applicable, using radiographic or ultrasonic methods or a combination thereof.

Conclusion: 1.- Is right, the inspection of the entire length to girth welds (jointers, in API 5L) according to Annex E requirements. 2. API 5L not limited only to the use of radiography, ultrasound or radiography can be used
