East Coast Magic Free Trick: Citation Silver by Bob Elliott

East Coast Magic presents. . .

Bob Elliott is not only a welcomed addition to the East Coast Magic family, he is an also
accomplished close-up performer, an outstanding teacher of magic, and one of the few professional around who is always happy to take time with aspiring young magicians. Bob has a particular affinity for coin magic, and its an area that he excels in. This is Bobs classic handling of Coins Across using Copper & Silver coins. The coins jump from hand to hand, then change into two coppers, then into two silvers, then into copper and silver again! Its about as eye-catching as you can get. And everything can be inspected before and after! Youll have to work a bit for it, the routine is not easy, but the pay-off is more than worth it!

THE PROPS
Youll need a copper coin, a silver coin, and one copper/silver coin. You also need to be able to backclip a coin. Ill describe it briefly at the end of the routine. If you dont do the backclip, this routine is the perfect reason to learn it!

THE ROUTINE
Phase 1 A coin is shown in each hand, when the hands are opened the copper has jumped across to join the silver coin!

1. Palm the c/s coin in the left hand, copper side in, against the palm.Display the silver coin at the left fingertips, and the copper coin at the right fingertips. 2. Fig.1 is the starting position.

3. Turn both hands palm down. In the process, the right hand backclips he copper coin. Fig. 2 4. Open both hands as in Figure 3 to show that both coins are in the left hand. The real copper is backclipped behind the right hand.

Phase 2 The copper coin jumps back to the right hand!

5. Turn the right hand palm down and recover the backclipped coin as the right hand picks up the silver coin from the left hand. Fig 4.

6. Close the left hand (Fig 5A) turning over the c/s coin. 7. The left hand backclips the silver coin (Fig 5B) then turns palm up showing the copper. The left hand opens to show the silver coin as in Fig 6. This is a wonderful sequence! This happens so quickly that there doesnt seem time for sleight of hand to have taken place!

Phase 3 The copper and silver coins change into two copper coins!
8. As the right hand starts to place the copper coin into the left hand, the right hand recovers the backclipped coin and classic palms it. Figure 7 shows the copper coin going into the left hand.

9. Close the left hand. Fig 8 is an exposed view, showing that the c/s coin has been turned over in the process of closing the hand. The spectators see a copper and a silver go into the left hand, but when the hand is opened they see two copper coins! (Fig 9)

Phase 4 The two coppers coins change into two silver coins!
10. The right hand grasps the copper coin as shown in fig 10. It turns the coin over to show copper on both sides. At the same time, the silver coin is secretly dropped onto the left palm.

11. The right fingers turn the copper coin over again. The left fingers begin to close. The right fingers move out of the way, taking the copper coin secretly. This coin is classic palmed as the right hand closes and the right forefinger points to the spectator. (Fig 11)

12. Ask, Whats in the left hand? Whatever the answer open the left hand to show two silver

coins!

(Fig 12)

Phase 5 Finally! The two silver coins change back into a copper and a silver coin!

13. For the finish the right hand picks up the c/s coin and backclips it as the hands close. Ask, Do you at least remember what we started with? Open the hands to show that the coins have transformed once more to leave you as you started, with just a normal copper and a silver coin. Fig 13

The Back Clip An excellent and detailed description can be found in David Roth's Expert Coin Magic (page 102, Kaufman, 1985). First place the thumb on the upper most edge of the coin. The thumb presses on the upper portion of the coin while you simultaneously raise the third finger a little. This causes the coin to pivot to a clipped position between the second and third fingers. In a continuing action, the thumb pushes the coin deeper until the uppermost edge protrudes from between the fingers. The coin is gripped lightly between the second and third fingers. Dont be discouraged by the sleights needed. The effect flows very smoothly and is a real mind-blower for your audience! Check out East Coast Magic for more of the best magic on the market!
